Utopian Submarine - 2000W, Indoor, Perpetual

PaPa Sit down and have a toke. I hate when that happens, two bad things happen to you and the third one sneaks up on you.:smokin2::smokin2:
Ouch!:smokin2:

I second this motion!!:grinjoint:

You guys are right - these things do seem to come in threes. So I did take a break today. But I'm sooo close to wrapping up the new space. Next post in a few minutes will have pics.

BTW Butcher nice to see you are Grow Support now. A well deserved title.

I just spent the past couple of hours reading this journal and your methods & results are impressive. So much knowledge to absorb - great job !

Thanks!!! There is so much good stuff on this site, I think it always means alot to anyone up here when someone spends that much time in one journal. Welcome. And I think you got here at just the right time.

Everyone check back next post for some pics of the new space. Not done - but is functional, and I can't resist sharing some of it.

New Room 90 percent ready

OK. Gonna post some of the new room, but first I wanted to make something clear.

This room is large. I could grow many more plants in there. I do not want to for a variety of reasons:

I like the medical marijuana laws basically, and I think its important for those of us growing medical to make sure we don't abuse the privileges.

Second, I am only growing for me and a few others. Any more than that would be waaaaaay too much work. Down the road I'd like to open a dispensary, but that will involve at least one other worker, and a better budget. In fact, I have moved all the Moms to flower so I can cut down and simplify.

Right now - all I wanted was the nicest place I could make for myself. Minimal bending, reaching, twisting. Easy to walk around. All electric off the floor. Easy to test, drain, refill and add nutes to the reservoirs.

And final reason is electricity. To add more lights would involve major work. So I am 100% content with the size of the space and number of plants and its gonna stay this way.

All that having been said, the lights are matched to the number of plants and vice versa. And there is ample room to place things optimally. So I look forward to some good yields.

Now the pics:

Some wide shots of the room. As you can see there is no visquene up yet. I know it should go up first, but it just didn't work out that way. There's a big pile of trim from the scrog.

I built a room inside a room for the veg area:

The left side. The big blotch on the drywall is where the bracket that got my thumb was. Man did I paint that sucker in there 5 years ago.
L_side_of_room.jpg

Here's the E&G controller I got used. I really like this system. I use 5G buckets. Then like a Hempy bucket I put a hole about 2" up the bucket. This drastically reduces the amount of water required in the reservoir. I have 15 5G buckets being filled by a 35G reservoir. Cost is less per site for 5G than the 2.5G E&G from the manufacturers.

This is the same thing I've had going in the scrog and they seem to love it. The scariest thing about scrogging for me is that you can't lift the plant to check the roots. So I won't have a definitive answer until the end. These I will be able to monitor more easily. 9 DogHair 1st day of transition.

The empty 5G are for the Utopia Haze. They will go in tonight. Figured I'd tease you with these. Also, you can see the water table in the buckets.

Here are some shots of the moms. I will take a few clones of each tonight because I can't bring myself to just abandon the phenos.

Now for a little taste of the Barney's Scrog. BTW, I call it the Barney's scrog, but there are actually 3 other plants in there as well - 2x DH and 1x AK.

Each top is about 24" tall. I'm gonna say that's maxing out the penetration of this light.

Same side of scrog, half way down. Mostly Utopia Haze in this pic:
scrog_from_side2.jpg

From the other side of the room. I took this from against the other wall. I'm gonna say that's about as dense as I think they can be grown. Gonna call that maxed out horizontally:
scrog_from_side.jpg

That's it for now I guess. Gonna get back to the actual gardening. Gotta take 18 clones and move the 6 Utopia Haze to their new buckets and home. Might have more pics a little later tonight.

Looks gloriously magnificent there mate.
Can you take 20 clones? Hint Hint :biglaugh:

Nice work PaPa That took some doing.:grinjoint:

You did it too! PaPa Damn nice work and reasons. Sucess!:clap::clap:

Looks like max density to me. Holy crap!

:peace:

Now if I can max out the genetics...

Looking Good

:passitleft: I wish you were here. I'm lookin for folks to take clones all the time.

very nice grow room man, you have an awesome setup, and it definitely shows by the ladies you have in there

Thanks, bro. Its really all about the plants. I'm getting there.

its a forest:bravo:
Thanks! Yeah - me likee. Might almost be too dense, but it sure is fun to stick my face right into the middle of it.

Nice work PaPa That took some doing.:grinjoint:

Yubb. Quite a bit of work. Not gonna lie - a week ago it was feeling overwhelming. I THINK its under control - although see next post for some updates.

I really like the wooden bench you have. Are those casters on it? Great work. Looks PHENOminal. :bravo:

That bench has been a life-saver. If you look at the pics from two weeks ago, you'll see it actually had the light mounted on it as well. I had to move it to the ceiling cause the scrog is kicking my ass. But... It has been key to be able to move it around while finishing the room. I've been pinching pennies, and time is of course precious, but I am soooo glad I spent the day it took to build that and the extra $30 on the wheels.

:thankyou: All!!

I've been super busy. A few minor curve balls, but basically good. Gonna do a minor update now, then I'll do a real one later. Much to report. SD scrog is being harvested as I have hours to do it. About 1/3 done and 350g trimmed. It had no water last 4-5 days so I can't call that wet or dry weight. Judging from my drying box - I think dry weight so far is about 3.5-4.5oz. I'll get pics up soon I promise. :yummy:

Utopia move happening fine.

OK - LAST NAME CHANGE FOR THE BARNEY'S L.S.D. - From now on - Voldemorticia - "She Who Shall not be Named". We'll call her Volde for short. She is evil! Sexy great stats and numbers and pics - but a real nightmare to grow. More later.

Discovered my res temps are gonna be an issue. That's a pain in the ass. I've not decided yet whether to try to get an aquarium chiller, a ChillKing or a DIY thing.

The clones I was supposed to take last night have not happened yet. They will happen tonight.

Been super busy. Am getting that semi-overwhelmed feeling again. Another few days of long hours and I think I'm out of the tunnel. I am almost embarrassed to admit how much posting the stuff up here motivates me. I knew I had an ego, but sheesh.

Also, I am gonna be posting and ASKING about the Volde when I have a little more time. I need some help identifying some symptoms.

I'll have pics later.

For a scrog isn't the point to have smaller buds but you'll get more and theyll all be siimilar in size. The max height above the screen should be closer to 9 to 10" at harvest. I think, I've never grown a scrog before but it think 24" above the screen when you flipped to flower you might as well have not used a screen and just trimmed up the botttoms of your plants. Now don't get me wrong your plants look healthy, I just think you're not getting the intended purpose of a scrog

Love your journal Papa G.

Room looks really "tight" man!

SF

Thanks! I feel like I'm getting a grip on the setups. Time to improve my eye for the plants.

Now don't get me wrong your plants look healthy, I just think you're not getting the intended purpose of a scrog

I basically agree with you, but let me clarify my setup a little.

Most importantly, they are finishing stretch right now, not just flipped. They've been in 12/12 for about two weeks+. When I first scrogged them they were about 18"-24" tall. The tops were all a few inches above the screen.

As you can see by these pics that I was about to post ;) - I have the weave and density part down pretty good. The Barney's scrog is about this same density as far as tops/sq inch. But I decided to let them go a little taller this time to try to max out the penetration of the light. I figured I'd go to about 16" tall with the bottoms being 24" from the light.

All good plans go awry. She grew 4" taller in 2 weeks than I expected. So She's a little taller than I would have liked, but I'm ok with that. I'd much rather have a bud every cubic inch of good light and let the bottom ones be popcorn, than leave any unused light.

So as far as the philosophy on scrog - yes - the idea is to have a nice canopy. But I've decided that keeping it too flat and tight cost me some on the current scrog. Also, I have scrogged with larger tops before. I don't get the colas a stand-up plant under a 1K would get - but I can usually get some decent ones. Check back for the next update on the Barney's scrog and I'll have pics of some colas I think will be at least a foot long.

All this is actually part of an ongoing exploration of the world of scrog - and my technique changes.

Anyways - great question +Reps.

And here's some pics of the current one being harvested:

Yeah you have no reason to worry about ego....I think if you looked deeper you would find your love of this great medicine and probably plants in general the reason enjoy sharing so much.

You have plenty to feel pride about, those are beautiful ladies you are growing there too bro!

I can't imagine how you guys that are hurt managing big grows handle it. My 3 girls in bloom and the other little babies are about all the extra work I can handle. So I feel for ya bro...:cheertwo::cheertwo::cheertwo:

Maybe one day brother all our silly governments will come to their senses and we'll all be going to the post office and sending "clone mailing packs" to eachother. One day mate.:peace:
