Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

UncleCannabis, I am new and so glad I found you. I have subbed in to watch and learn. Love being here. I followed some of my new friends over here. I'm facing a challenging first grow but loving it.

Hey there KodiakKid. Welcome aboard.
It's great to hear that you're trying your hand at gardening. I'd be glad to help out in any way that I can. Feel free to ask away if there's anything you may be curious about.

Thanks again Uncle. I didn't know EWC had that much P in it...good to know! I use the heck out of it but really haven't seen that much info/explanation on its various components. Doh! Roots are generally massive so will leave well enough alone & skip the high P guano in mix. In bloom I'm using Indonesian & Jamaican bat & Indo. seabird...bat for density & seabird for flavor.:high-five:

I agree brightlight. If I were you I wouldn't change a thing brother.
It appears that you've got your system dialed in perfectly. I've seen those massive rootballs that come out of those 7gal pots of yours. There's some real magic going on underneath the soil line of those pots.

Many paths to the same goal. I'm impressed that Conradino figured out how to increase Brix readings in organic soils. I'm much more comfortable with a soil that supports worms. The Kit causes conflict that I battle daily, but damn! Look at her! Regardless, the matrix is incapable of supporting worms. That can't be called soil in my mind.

You both have your own successful approaches, as do many others, but I also believe we would all benefit from listening to Conradino and making some subtle changes. The big thing that's becoming more and more apparent is that it appears terpenes have more to do with the high than THC. The steps Conradino laid out will improve terpene development and variety. That alone should drive us to rethink.

I like the cyclic quality of putting it all back to replenish. Nicely done Uncle Cannabis. I really like your documentation style. The pictures just grab you. You don't take reps so you gotta accept the hug. I think it's in my rule book somewhere. :laughtwo: :hugs:

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Sending a few your way Sue. Always happy to share. :)

They'll go down much better with milk. I can see myself dipping them in milk already!!
Instead of morning bliss they may cause morning blindness. Night time use only for me I think.
:yummy::cough:

Morning blindness sounds right up my alley. :laughtwo: A couple more harvests and I'll be having baked buds again for breakfast. Oh yeah! :slide:

UncleCannabis, I hate to ask, but there I'm having a challenge in my first grow which is outside. My girls are all healthy and of course in my opinion, gorgeous here in the PNW both in the ground and in pots. My problem is they just aren't flowering, but one, yet and my time is getting short. Any thoughts or pointers? The link to my grow journal is below. Thx. so much for any help to this old guy who knows growing other things but first time for cannabis.

I could be wrong but I really doubt that Conradino would be the sole person responsible for figuring out how to optimize brix results in organic soils. The brix method is a method that has it's roots (pun intended) in the orchard industry and goes back to at least the mid 80's if not before.
However, I wouldn't doubt that Conradino has lots of experience in working out ways to optimize brix results in cannabis grows and may be one of the original trailblazer that took brix from the orchards to the ganja garden.
In addition to being a proven master grower he's also a frequent visitor of The Mountain (general BS thread for us older folk) so you can be sure that he's tried many different grow methods over the years and has come to the conclusion that the best way to grow cannabis of the utmost quality is with brix methods.

Because of the weight that I hold in any input, tips, or opinions that come from ole' Conradino, my earlier interest and investigation into some of the hybrix methods that didn't really convince me to try it back then has now been piqued again.
Thanks Conradino! :thanks::thumb:
You can expect to see some side by side grow experiments coming to the Ganja Grove in the future. :)

I still have many questions about the brix methods such as the actual proven difference in THC % compared to other organic methods.
For instance, if the difference in THC content using different organic growing methods would result in only a 2 or 3% increase in THC content I really doubt that I would be able to tell the difference or would really care.

It's also been said that yields are reduced when growing brix style but I've never really found where the yield differences have been quantified. Even though yield is not a primary concern of mine I would not want to sacrifice a 20% yield reduction as a trade off for a 1 or 2% improvement in THC content. This is just an example of what I mean. I have no idea what yield differentials one could expect.

If I'm able to convince myself that loss of yield would be say 10% or so with a resulting improvement to THC content of 5% or so and an improvement in flavor that is VERY noticeable.....then I'll certainly be delving into this brix stuff....up to a point.
You'll never see UncleC waving a refractometer around the garden that's for sure. :)

Regarding your kit soil not being able to support healthy worm colonies, this may not be a direct result of the kit but due to the small size of the pots or some other factor. I have no idea really since I'm not privy to what's in the kit but you should consider all factors. ??

Playing around with things keeps it fun and exciting doesn't it?
I know that in my case, if I'm not tinkering with the puzzle in at least some way it's just not as much fun. :)

The advise that you've already been given by others in your journal is sound advise. Judging by the look of your ladies you're on your way to a successful harvest! Congratulations!

Lighting Scheme -
11 On / 13 Off
Changed lights on period from daytime to night time for heat control.

With the addition of the 315 additional wall watts of light, it caused my tent temps to rise to 91 degrees F with lights on.
This was way too hot for comfort so I decided to change my lights on time from daytime to the evening hours to see if this would get temps down to acceptable levels.
When the lights went off as scheduled early on Wednesday evening I left them off until Thursday evening before turning them back on at the newly scheduled 9pm lights on time.
So the girls had a long night this week as part of the change. I think they enjoyed the long night of rest because there was a noticeable advance in pistil development once the lights came back on.

This change from lights on during the daytime to lights on when it's dark out made the difference that I was looking for. Temps are now within acceptable levels and life is good.

Environmental Conditions -
Light On -
Temps - 77 to 82 degrees F
RH - 47 to 60%

Lights Off -
Temps - 65 to 68 degrees F
RH - 55 to 65%

Nutrients / Fert's / Stuff -
Black strap molasses and coconut water added to tap water at 1 tsp per gallon (molasses) and 2 tbsp per gallon (coconut water) during regular watering.

Pest Control / Prevention -
Leaf inspection only. No pest observed.

Random Garden Activities -
This week I went ahead and gave the pots a light tap water leaching to flush away any salts or plant refuse that may have built up within the root zone and grow media. I like to do this every two weeks or so. While doing this I usually also check the EC of the leach water before disposing of it.

I also roughed up the surface of all of the pots with a table fork this week. This is another thing that I like to do at least every week or two throughout the grow.
Does that make this a "Yes-Till LOS" organic grow? LOL!!

Weekly Summary & Pics -
It's now 21 days since flip and all of the girls seem to be doing well.
They are all stretching at about the same rate with pistil development beginning to really come along.
Canopy is relatively even in height for the time being but I have a feeling that may change within the next 2 weeks or so.

Enough jabber....on with some pics.

Throttling along smoothly so far. I'll be heading off on another one of my little trips soon so I'm hoping it's not a case of the calm before the storm.

I'd really hate to have anything go wrong while I'm away but even if I return to a dead crop it wouldn't be a big deal now that I've got plenty of stash all jarred up.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Thanks for clarifying high Brix in cannabis cultivation. I should have caught that. :battingeyelashes:

I have yet to find a kit grower with worms. I've asked, more than once, for a show of hands, because that concerns me. They seem disinterested in the subject.

It has occurred to me from the beginning that the results offered by our organic grows match the HB grows so closely in quality that we're talking differences so small as to be inconsequential. It becomes obvious then, that the advantages lie with organic soils. Here's one no one thinks about. What happens to your kit soil if you suddenly can't purchase from Doc anymore? What hoops do you have to jump through to secure another source, and how long will your plants survive without the Kit ingredients? These are questions organic growers laugh at. I can run a whole grow with comfrey alone.

I should do that. Run a plant in LOS adding nothing but comfrey. :hmmmm:

Having said that, Carnival is blowing me away. I'm new to this game, but this is no average plant. Something's going on here and I, for one, am intrigued. I have a Jamaican Dream coming up behind Carnival in the same soil, so we'll see what she does.

I exist in conflict about the Kit, but I'm pressing on.

How nice. Visiting with you made the bus trip for coffee beans a more pleasant experience. Thank you for adding to the joy of my 420 mag. anniversary day. :hugs: I'll be spreading happy hugs all day. Here - have another. :hugs:

Wow! I posted at the same time and Damn! You take such pretty pictures. So many good reasons to visit here. Travel safely. We'll send protective energies their way. I'd offer to watch them for you ,but you know how hard it'd be to get them to leave the spa after a taste of SweetSue. :battingeyelashes:
