Thanks for the compliment SweetSue.
No need for the reps as I'm not a rep collector but thanks for that too.
:thanks:

I know that you've been following along since the beginning.
I hope that you haven't developed a case of whiplash due to all of the bumps that have occurred along the way. LOL!

Bubble Bag / Ice Water Hash

Essential Tools
Bubble Bags
Pressing Screen
2 Small Trash Cans or Buckets
Garden Sprayer
Wooden Spoon
Metal Spoon
Towel
Piece of Cardboard

15948.jpg

Step 1 -
Insert bags into bucket.

Step 2 -
Fill bucket about 1/3 full of water and add about 2 gallons of ice.
Allow to set for about 3 to 5 minutes to get water nice and cold.

Step 3 -
Add trim material or buds to bags.
Cover with about 2 gallons of ice. Do not stir yet.
Allow to set about 15 minutes.
22058.jpg

Step 4 -
Stir slowly with wooden spoon or something similar that will not damage bottom of bag.
I prefer to stir gently, almost like kneading bread.
Stir slowly for approximately 10 minutes.

Step 5 -
Grab each side of bags (all bags held together) and gently pull the bags slowly out of the water and allow to drain for about 1 minute.
Slowly set all of the bags together back into the water allowing them to sink very slowly.
Stir for another 5 minutes.

Step 6 -
Grab each side of the bags and gently pull bags slowly out of the water and allow to drain.
After water has drained out of the bags set the bags down into the empty bucket / container.
Slowly pour water from container #1 into the bags which are now in container #2.

Step 7 -
Grab each side of the bags all together and gently pull the bags slowly out of the water and allow to drain.
After the water has drained out of the bags set the bags down into the empty bucket / container.
Water can be kept to water plants with or pour onto compost piles.

Step 8 -
Remove the first bag that contains the trim.
Set aside in a drip proof pan or bucket and allow to fully drain.
At this point I consider it compost material. Others may want to further process.

Step 9 -
Remove the second bag and use garden sprayer (filled with ice water) to spray the bubble hash to the middle of the screen at the bottom of the bag.
Allow to drain then collect with a spoon.
Place collected hash onto the pressing screen which is placed on top of a towel.
Immediately wash out bag with cold water and set out to dry.

Step 10 -
Repeat step 9 until bubble hash is collected from all of the bags (first bag with trim not included).

Step 11 -
Fold pressing screen over so that the hash is sandwiched in between.
Place pressing screen between a folded towel and press gently to dry the bubble hash.

Step 12 -
Remove hash from the pressing screen and place onto a piece of cardboard.
41379.jpg

Step 13 -
Take a knife of card or something with an edge and chop up hash as finely as possible and allow to dry.

Step 14 -
Place in an air conditioned environment (@ 70 degrees F / RH @ 50%) and allow to dry for about 2 to 3 days.

Step 15 -
Press into a disc or ball then smoke it up.
:volcano-smiley:

One batch down, more to make later.

Transplant Up

Some of the first clones that were taken were itching to get transplanted into larger pots so today was the big day.

After cleaning up from the bubble hash session it was time to mix up some transplant soil.

Begin by adding some of my pre-mixed and pre-simmered composted soil mix to a plastic container for mixing.

Add a few last minute amendments before mixing.

Mix well.

Place plastic screen into wicker baskets.

Clones waiting to be placed into their new homes.

One day sometime back when topping this LA Chocolat clone I stuck the part that I snipped off into the corner of the pot.
The cutting took root so I went ahead and removed it and potted it in it's own pot.

31783.jpg

When transplanting I like to massage the root ball and break up the roots a bit before covering with soil.
41378.jpg

After giving them a good B-1 infused watering the newly transplanted clones were then placed inside of my spare tent with a Mars-Hydro 144x5 providing artificial sun.

This tent has proven to be useful for so many things I've begun referring to it as my Swiss Army Tent. LOL!

They'll be left here recovering from transplant shock and left vegging under 18/6 lighting schedule for at least a week or 2.

Have a great day 420 friends.

Keep your plants green and your headlights shining red!

Congrats on outdoor level harvest indoors! Impressive yields....high skills on display!:goodjob:

Thanks brightlight.
:thanks:
That means a lot coming from a green thumb like yourself. :adore:

I think I'm beginning to get the hang of this indoor gardening thing. Next round should be a doozie. :;):

Hey UnkyHerb great harvest...
Was wondering if you could list your original soil recipe..? I'm sure you already have somewhere.... You don't use perlite? Rice hulls a good replacement? I like perlite for what it does, but would like to phase it out and recycle my pot soil.. Seems like the perlite will hang around for ever..

Thanks for the compliment santb. :thanks:

I don't really have a soil recipe. It's more like a "Summer Soil"....some of this, some of that, some of that over there,........you get the point.

Copy/paste from page 2 of this journal.

My Soil Mix

Ingredients:
Soil Base. Consist mostly of composted black soil containing lots of leaf matter.
Worm Castings
Bone Meal
Blood Meal
Bat Guano
Chicken Shit
Sheep Shit
Alfalfa Meal
Crushed Pumice Stone
Crushed Oyster Shells
Ground Egg Shells
Used Coffee Grounds
Neem Cake Meal
Rice Hulls
Coco Coir
Dolomite Lime
Epsom Salt
Humic Acid
BioChar
EM (Effective Microorganisms)

After mixing I put into clear plastic tubs with clear covers and let it set outside in the sun for at least 4 to 6 months before using. While simmering I turn and water a few times per week until it's ready to use.
Before using the mix for potting up plants I add a bit of perlite along with more coco coir, more worm castings, more bat guano, more bone meal, more dolomite lime (based on ph adjustment needs), more epsom salt, and more neem cake meal. I mix everything well then use.

Ingredient Quantities:
To be honest my gardening habits are similar to my cooking habits in that I don't really measure ingredients when making a batch of soil. I just know from experience about how much of which ingredients to add for different purposes. I was raised on a farm and I've had many years of organic growing experience with fruit and vegetable crops so it's not like I'm just throwing darts at a dart board hoping that I get close to bulls eye. There is a bit of knowledge and experience at play but it's probably an even mix of luck and skill that gets me by by the skin of my teeth sometimes. LOL!

IMHO due to variations and inconsistencies in regards to the ingredients that are contained in most organic based products that are the standard fare when making a custom soil mix it's really an imprecise science. Example...If two groups of bats are eating different diets, the bat dung from both groups of bats will not contain the same NPK ratios. Same goes for worm castings. All worm castings are not the same. Anyways, you all get the picture.

I sometimes compare building a healthy soil to what it takes to build a healthy body. If you want to build a healthy body you need to feed the machine with a WIDE ASSORTMENT of CLEAN and HIGH QUALITY foods. Eating too much of anything is usually a bad thing but eating too little of those same things are bad as well. Same goes for building a healthy and balanced soil. In most but not all cases the amounts of each ingredient are not as important as the variety of the ingredients that are used and getting the soil texture right. I won't get into soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) but those who may have a real interest in organic soil gardening should read up on this subject as this is they key as to how plant uptake and utilize nutrients.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that IMHO there is no PERFECT SOIL RECIPE folks!! There are however some recipes that are better than others and the key reason lies in the variety and quality of the ingredients used. There's more to gardening than just N-P-K and Cal/Mag.
I like to try to not over complicate things unless complicated is the ONLY route to success and growing good weed ain't as complicated or difficult as most folks make it out to be.

Anyways, now that I've probably ruffled up a few feathers with the organic soil growers as well as the hydro gardeners my work is done here. LOL!

One of these days I'll take notes of the quantities of ingredients that I use when mixing up a new batch of soil.

Have a Great Day Everyone!

You don't use perlite? Rice hulls a good replacement? I like perlite for what it does, but would like to phase it out and recycle my pot soil.. Seems like the perlite will hang around for ever..

In the past when I used to grow outdoors I never used perlite in my planting mixes. Since trying my hand indoors I have added perlite because I noticed that most everyone swears by it.
It would be fair to say that using perlite has been one of those monkey see, monkey do things for me. LOL!

I'm not against the use of perlite. There's a reason that it's been a go to soil amendment product in the horticultural and nursery business for so long. It's good stuff.
I'm just conducting one my little UncleC home experiments which is an attempt to adapt my old organic outdoor growing methods to indoor growing as much as possible.

Rice hulls serve a similar purpose as perlite in that they improve soil texture and help to aerate heavy soils. One benefit that comes with the use of rice hulls is the micro element silicon (Si).
Even if using perlite I'd suggest throwing in a bit of rice hulls anyway just for the Si benefits.

Ok, I'll hold the reps for you. Instead I'll just gush. That was fabulous UncleCannabis! Great photo documentation and thorough narrative. You have a talent for this. :cheesygrinsmiley: I always learn something when I visit you.

No, I haven't gotten whiplash yet, but you seem to have a knack for finding challenges to overcome, so there'll likely be other opportunities. :laughtwo:

Future opportunities for mishap and mischief are guaranteed. It's what keeps things fun and interesting.

I'll back this up. I always include rice hulls, not only for the silicon addition to the pot, but also because the structure of the hulls means they add an interesting diversity to the potential living quarters for the microbes.

UncleCannabis, I like your soil demonstration. Do me a favor if you will and consider reposting it on our soil thread. I don't recollect you sharing it before now. I'm trying to accumulate as many different approaches to organic soil mixes as I can on that thread and this one is golden.

Sue,
I'm flattered that you'd like for me to join in the soil thread discussions and share some of my methods.
Unfortunately, it seems that every time I throw in my 2 cents in these type of organic soil threads I get accused of doing it all wrong, or things like "careful with that dolomite fella, cal/mag is better"....or "my soil is better than yours because I use this and I do that" usually by the same folks that couldn't grow a friggin' Chia Pet without having seed germination issues or having it go hermie on them.

Anyways, apologies for the rant....I'd be happy to share if you promise to keep the wolves at bay until I can make a quick getaway. LOL!

I understand the concern because I've seen it played out on other forums to terrible ends. The level of disrespect I've witnessed is rediculous and sad. That's no way to foster the spirit of brainstorming I'm working so diligently to build on my threads. I can assure you that if anyone deems to criticize rather than discuss they will have to answer to me for it. SweetSue can be a proper bitch if it's called for. I find it isn't often called for though. Respect usually generates a respectful response.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

I'll share this here because I know you'll get a good laugh over it. I've been sitting here on the floor for three hours straight running through the yards and trying to catch up. That convoluted grow of mine takes lots of coordination and planning time. :laughtwo: Anyhow, I just looked over and realized that three hours ago I loaded the pipe, but I've been so involved with the community that I completely forgot that I grow it to smoke it.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

"Careful with that dolomite fella..." Made my mind go straight to "Careful with that axe Eugene" LOL!!!

UncleC, the following is from Cannbelle's journal:
"As for paths, one of my favorite Zen masters, Ikkyu Shojun once wrote:
Many paths lead to the top of the mountain,
But at its peak, we all share the same bright moon."

It is too bad that some cannot seem to understand that diversity is so very important in life and gardening.
Keep it Green.
