I dont trim off whole branches, but the leaves from the secondary that are in the way of buds that will grow to the top are pruned out of the way once LST starts. I am slow to trim off a leaf, but if it is interfering with light getting to a bud, that is the excuse I need to cut it. Leaves that once LST has started that end up on the bottom side of the branch also get trimmed so they don't get in the way... and eventually the plant is going to slough them off anyway.
There is no hurry to trim right now... you just topped them. Let the plant deal with that first. Very soon you will see the lower growth tips leap toward the top and as they get long enough to bend over, you will start to see which leaves naturally end up being a problem... right now, you would just be guessing. You can see in the last glamour shots on my journal, how opened up this little bit of trimming of no more than 4 or 5 leaves per plant will make the center of the plant and it is amazing how rapidly that secondary and tertiary growth responds to the added air and light.
