re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Ok you guys have convinced me. Going to get 2 of those bad boys and just hang them vertically on the sides of the tent.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Hi brother blaze,

Millertm is absolutely right, hot shot is totally cancerous. I contacted the manufacturer a couple years ago and they said to never use it on consumable crops period. It is very strong and works really well for non consumable crops but that sh!t is extremely poisonous. Cancer is just the beginning of the health problems associated with the active ingredients.

I agree with all that's been posted about the lumens. Grow store guys are usually just out of high school and have no clue except what they've been sold by the reps. --- This is my personal experience --- I know a manager of a grow shop here in the PNW, (actually a good friend), and he grows 100% organics. The only thing he uses from his own store are grow bags, perlite, minerals (rock dust, crustacean meal, feather meal, etc, etc), organic pest deterrents (neem cake and DE), perlite, and worm castings lol. That should tell you all you need to know.

I have found that 1 cup of DE per 20 gallons of soil has cured my fungus gnat problems. I just don't have them anymore. I used to have them in every grow to some extent. I haven't seen them for at least a year now and I attribute that to the addition of DE in my home made organic soil. It can still help as a top dress, 1-2 TBS per pot, but to see real results it needs to be incorporated into your soil routine.

All that said, your ladies look absolutely amazing! Great job my friend, keep it rocking brother Blaze! :volcano-smiley::circle-of-love::thumb:

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Thanks for that great post Doc. I'll make sure to stay away from hot shot. So far I've just added perlite as a top dress. In the last 2 feedings, I haven't seen any more gnats but I will add the sticky traps soon to monitor.

What does DT stand for?

UPDATE

Day 31

The girls have hit a growth spurt again. They've have grown quite a bit in the last 2 days. Will need to move them apart to give them some space. As a result, I think I will go and get those 2 CFL bulbs today.

Forgot to mention that I bent the tall Ex. Kush over as she was getting a little close to the light.

Sorry brother Blaze! I meant DE lol. Diatomaceous Earth. I've not been myself lately so I can blame it on that hehehe. I use it in my soil every time I build it now. You'll be very happy with the results. I'll go edit my post right now as not to confuse the subject! :circle-of-love::circle-of-love:

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Ah ok... yes I've read about the benefits of DE. Tough to track down in my neck of the woods for some reason though. I've read that perlite has a similar effect.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

I use the Bonide brand because it is available at my local nursery. Any OMRI compliant will do. Just check that it's ok for livestock and pets. Most hydro shops won't sell it because they make so much money on inferior bottled products. Once you know the truth for yourself you might get a little pissed lol. 20 bucks for a 2 year supply that's superior to any chemical available in hydro stores.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Thanks Doc Cannabi. Will have to make the effort to find some then. :thumb:

Doc Bob... Thanks man! Although not sure about the fastest. Have you seen Mono's 12/12 journal? Those girls are on a mission.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Negative on the perlite. It is the equivalent of keeping your top layer of soil dry. A good addition but not a substitute. DE is best used in your soil mix but top dress does help. Perlite is beneficiary in many ways but its main function is to help with drainage and aeration.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

You can have DE shipped for under 30 bucks in the US.

BTW, your girls are looking freaking amazing. Sorry for hijacking my friend. I just get really excited about organic solutions lol.

Top job my friend! :circle-of-love:

You're not hijacking bud. Still very much on topic in fact.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Veinz, your best bet would be to order it online. That's what I will have to do as well.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Sorry bud, it will be my first time ordering as well and I'm in South Africa.

re: TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Hi veinz,

They sell it in local nurseries here in the states. Almost all the big nurseries here carry it. I'd say start there or buy it from Slamazon if shipping doesn't kill you. Maybe even ebay Europe? I doubt you'll find in it on any hydro website. They usually only sell spendy bottled 1/2 solutions.

To get the most out of DE you'll need to add it to your soil mix. Other non toxic methods include pointing a fan at the top of your soil, keeping the top of your soil dry, and/our adding a buffer layer like perlite or clay balls (already mentioned in this thread). Also mosquitoe dunks and neem cakes help too.

Fungus gnats feed on fungus, so anything you can do to eliminate fungus helps.:circle-of-love::Love::circle-of-love:

Just one point... fungus gnats feed on both fungus and roots
