TheBlaze: Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1

Good to have you here Twox. I will head over to your journal and sub in return. I'm also interested to see how yours turn out. Mine seem fairly vigorous.

I think I have a pack of them Purple Envy too from Gorilla seeds when I won the POTM comp :) I will be watching them ones too so I know if its worth dropping them in down the track hehe, purple strains have always drawn me in but have not found a good tasting one yet that packs a punch so I tend to steer clear ;)

Yeah, you definitely have a pack of them because that's where I got mine as well. They are really big, dark, robust looking seeds. Sprouted well, and took off with a bang. So far so good.

I've never been into purple strains, but I must admit that I'm curious to see what I get from these. Hopefully I get lucky again.

I have grown Purple Wreck before, but it didn't turn purple. Was killer smoke though. Only strain I've ever grown that has turned a light shade of purple was the second pheno of Lost Coast OG I grew.

I haven't considered them pat. I'm not really on the hunt for purple strains. Just had them, so thought why not give it a go. Hoping I get something nice out of them.

When do you think you will get your seeds Pat? You jumping into another grow then?

UPDATE

Day 9

PROBLEMS!!

This literally happened overnight, although I did notice some plants with twisting leaves a few days back already. I'm really hoping it is not the same issue that fucken obliterated my previous crop. I'm pretty sure mites were to blame for that disaster. I'm hoping you guys can help me diagnose this.

Some points to consider:

- First set of leaves started twisting a few days ago.
- I sprayed the tent with a stronger peroxide solution yesterday. Tent was literally dripping with the stuff.
- When the humidifier runs out of water, the humidity drops down to about 28%. I'm guessing they are subjected to at least 8 or 9 hours of that before I can fill up the reservoir again.
- Problem is only affecting the first set of leaves. Rest of the plant is fine. This is true for all 9 plants. Logic tells me that indicates a deficiency most likely caused by a lockout. Pests would attack newer growth surely, or the entire plants would show issues. The problem is very uniform.
- All 3 Blue Dreams are the worst affected.

Things I could improve on:

- Humidity as stated above
- Give them fresh nute solution daily, and not reuse solution on the second day. (I suspect the pH changes in a 24 hour period)
- Maybe increase the amount of calmag I use.

I was hoping to wait until the plants were a little bigger before spraying them with pesticides, but I think I will start a regimen of neem and some form of miticide by tomorrow. I'm thinking neem first, then next week the miticide and then alternate between the 2 every week. What do you guys think? At what age/size can you start spraying seedlings?

My mind is telling me this is a pH problem due to the twisting leaves, and the uniformity of the problem. My gut is telling me this is mites.

Please have a look at the photos, baring in mind the points I've mentioned, and give me your opinions.

Thanks!

The man! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I grow in coco/perlite 70/30. Using GH Flora series nutes. pH'd down to around 5.7 although the last few feedings I adjusted the pH too low (pH down solution seems to have gotten stronger??) and had to use pH up to get it right.

Thanks!

Shit blaze your not having much luck.Im far from an expert but how is your ph run off? I would think in small pots like you have if its a medium ph problem you would see a noticeable drop or spike from what goes in and what comes out.

I will measure runoff tomorrow BT, although I've read that measuring runoff in coco is unreliable??

what ppm you giving them

I've never measured ppm. Only ever measure pH. At the moment they are getting very low doses of micro, gro and bloom. About 0.2ml/L of each. Recommended is 0.8ml/L in the vegetative stage.

you cant go off the bottle. you wont know what you are feeding them. you need to know the strength of the feed then can work out what you should be giving them. dont give them plain water, thats not good when growing on coco unless final flush. keep ph at 5.8.

id make a nute mix strength of 1.0ec/500ppm and flush through to run off with 5.8ph. this will correct the medium. you need to feed everyday also. by mixing in tbe perlite you should really be multifeeding daily. plain coco is better for most growers especially if hand feeding.

Ok, so off to the hydro shop tomorrow then to buy a ppm/ec meter. Should I use RO water instead of tap water then? I suppose the quality of the water I'm using could have changed recently. I know we have water outages almost weekly with the building of the new mall up the road.

Should I be supplementing with calmag every day as well?

Thanks bud!

How old are your nutes Blaze? I only ask because last year I used cal/mag at my usual .5mlpl which barley reads on my EC truncheon usually but spiked my EC by .8 from going bad over the year. Not saying that's it but just Thaught it's worth a mention

They are fairly newly acquired, but I have no idea how old they actually are. I'm not even sure how I would find that out.

once you have your meter you can then test the ppm/ec of your water. then go from there. you might have to add calmag depending on your water.

Ok, I will follow your advice to the letter and report back here tomorrow. Thank you again.

Yeah id never go off the bottle mate, those mixtures are usually what they recommend on the strongest feed and I'm probably lucky to reach half that. Best thing with flora nutes would be to jump on here:

General Hydroponics – Grow indoor. Grow outdoor. Grow with us.

That is for 4L or a gallon of water, half strength of what they recommend is a good starting point and work your way up from there :thumb:
