TheBlaze: Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1

This is so difficult man. Many bugs look similar, and the symptoms seem similar as well. How the fuck are you supposed to identify anything with any real certainty?

I'm pretty sure I spotted an adult thrips when flushing the plants again yesterday again. Some of the symptoms also look similar.

I don't know man... maybe just wishful thinking.

I will do a 2 part treatment then. Like this:

Week 1 : Milbeknock
Week 2 : Neem oil
Week 3 : Milbeknock
Week 4 : Neem oil

Sorry man, I didn't realize...If you gotta make it work, make it work. :Namaste: You're within the window that you can use the heavier stuff, and it'll dissipate. Give em lots of love so they do more than just survive, ain't no shame in helping the willing ones along. Lots of people here and elsewhere pulling for ya.

Thanks BT.

You're right about the eggs. I haven't spotted anything like that. They are speckled with white dots. My scope is a little shitty though. Only x50 and I struggle to get it to focus properly.

I will go out and buy the insecticides now. Then spend the rest of the day studying the plants in minute details.

I have spotted all types of creepy crawlies in that room man. I feel a little out of my depth here, as I've never had big problems with pests before.

Thanks bud.

I'm going to give it my all.

Let's see what happens.

If them white dots are raised then that's the tel tail sign of broad mites, other mites have smooth coating from what I've read, they didn't show a pic but raised bumbs was the only real way to make 100% sure.
Hope that's helps mate

That's exactly what I'm going to look for today. Hopefully it is not broad mites.

I worked my ass off today. Cleaned those rooms from top to bottom. Vacuumed and used a solution of bleach. I ended up culling 6 plants, so now I only have 6 of the strongest left. 91 Krypt was hardest hit. There is only one 91 left. I'm pretty sure it's a girl.

I opted for a neem and spinosad approach instead jumping straight into the hardcore chemical stuff. My reasoning being that I know I have a pest problem, but I'm not sure what pest it is. As mentioned earlier, I did see an adult thrip yesterday when flushing the plant. I've also seen fungus gnats, white flies and fruit flies. Plenty of spiders, 2 cockroaches (i think) and one gecko. It's a fucken zoo in there.

I studied one plant carefully today, and saw no signs of mites or their eggs. So I'm hoping my decision is vindicated.

I sprayed the 6 remaining plants thoroughly. Including the fabric pots as well. Also sprayed along the walls. In 3 days time, they will get a spinosad drench. A 2 pronged attack. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Here are some photos of the work done today.

Thrips are a one spray deal, you can wipe them out with Spino no problem. You'd know if it was Thrips though. They eat the leaves, leaving trails that are very obvious.

The mites, I have no experience with, by Black Thumbs does. If his description doesn't match up, then you may be seeing just normal pests, not an infestation.

Still could be medium, so don't rule it out entirely. Could be something in the water your using too, if you are at a new locale, and aren't RO.

If you don't find pests in significant quanities to be the cause, then you need to keep looking. Get one of those culled stumps and look for root rot too. Loot for eggs, bugs, tear into the root ball. Something doesn't line up. :Namaste:

Seems like you'd see a lot more of these pests if they were causing that much damage to your area. I can't remember if you drain to waste or not? Also do the plants sit on the floor? I thought I read someone's journal one time where he had a new room and a concrete slab and even though his temps said his room was good, the concrete was actually cold and the roots were too cold since they were on the floor. They wouldn't uptake nutrients and the plant grew because he was still watering it but it wasn't taking any of the good stuff.

I'm with caretaker here, something just doesn't add up but if you are feeding and everything like you normally do... the only thing that's changed is the grow space.

Damn bugs that sucks bad im always scared of that happening.. i get ants spiders mice other random bugs too... now its spring and they will be starting the assault again. Cleaning looks good and it was smart to take those plants out. Hopefully you can eradicate them without having to use those harsher chemicals.. yuck good luck man

There is quite a bit of leaf damage on some of the healthier looking plants, while the bleached ones just seem to have significant chlorosis. Almost seems like I'm battling 2 separate issues completely.

I'm prepping the nutes/water at home. So nothing has changed there.

A good idea to check the root balls on the plants I culled though. I will do that later today, take photos, and report back here.

Thanks man!

I'm running out of options of what I can check and/or change here bud. Plants were sitting on about 3 inches of styrofoam, but I removed that in my search to find the problem. I think it's pretty clear that wasn't the issue, so I suppose I can put that back now.

We're going into winter soon. So hopefully I see less of them going forward.

Plants seem to have responded well to the work I did yesterday. Fed them today, so lets see what they look like tomorrow.

I had a look at the roots of the plants I culled. I see nothing that would indicate a problem there. Root system is a bit small though, but that's it.

A dead bug found in one of the fabric pots. Looks like a winged adult thrip/s. About 3mm in length.
