Date: 8/8/23 Day#124
Strain: Herbies Seeds Colombian Gold (World of Seeds) fem photo
Nutrients: Geoflora veg
Medium: 3g cloth pot with FFHF soil

For the past week, I've been preparing to take clones from Goldie. I've sprayed her twice with Safers all over using my @VIVOSUN compression sprayer, the last time on Sunday. The wand made it easy to get inside the plant, especially the undersides of the middle. I sprayed her until she was soaked and dripping.

She's hasn't been fed since May 31 (day 56) so she has to be getting hungry. I'd prefer clones be a little hungry. Unfortunately, it looks like she's trying to start flower. While she's not in flower yet it looks like she is in transition. I forgot to take pictures of her yesterday, so here she is today on the back deck after all clones were taken.

Sunday I also set up the cloner. I cleaned everything really well, even running it in warm water for an hour or so. Then I rinsed and filled it with a Clonex solution(5ml/L + 1ml pHd + 10ml Hydroguard = 440ppm/5.7pH). I left it bubbling for 24 hours.

Monday, I took some clones. Goldie was pretty dry, almost to the point of wilting. I cut the clones from the bottom of the plant, taking the greener-looking stems and not the woodier ones. I immediately put them in a glass of water as I cut them. Then, for each clone:

- I took it out of the glass of water and coated the cut in Clonex gel.
- I removed any lower growth
- I clipped all existing leaves
- I used a sprayer to clean/rinse each clone thoroughly. I started with the undersides of the leaves, then sprayed the tops of the leaves. I did this over the sink, then lightly spun them to remove any excess water.
- I put a collar on them and put them in the cloner.

I ended up taking 16 clones, enough to fill the cloner without them touching too much. I left the dome off until the clones were mostly dry. The cloner is set up next to the AeroGarden. The AeroGarden is set for 16 hrs/day overnight, and they'll get some spill-over daylight during the day. Hopefully this will keep them from going into full flower.

I'll keep the dome on the first week or two, removing it for an hour daily to allow everything to dry out. Hopefully by the end of the second week I have four rooted clones ready to go into the RDWC.

Thanks Trala. I'd rather read yours any day, though. But you don't allow your journals to be nominated for GJOTM. I know, I've tried. I really enjoyed your Kush comparison grow.
I retired from competitions after only coming second in a wet tshirt contest.

I just can’t take the disappointment that goes with not winning first place.

Damn you Cindy and your perfect breasts! DAMN YOU TO HELLLLLLLLL!

L O L L I N G !

Seriously tho, my journals don’t meet the criteria. I think journal/member of the month should be based on those who meet the criteria. The ones who do the work. Spread Robs message in a professional way. I’m just about the shits and giggles bruv ;)

Your perpetual journal doesn't meet the criteria. Don't sell yourself short, though, your comparative grow journals are really well done, informative, and entertaining. Some may like more professionally done journals, and others like to have more fun while they learn. And your journals are always fun :)

Yeah Cindy! Damn you and your perfect champagne cupped looking titties!

Thank you for saying that :)

You made me feel really good 😊

The clones have been bubbling in the kitchen for nine days. There is some yellowed leaves, but that's to be expected. I did trash one clone this morning, it was small and weak. It had little rootlets, though, so it may have made it if it was needed. It isn't.

The rest of the clones are starting to root as well :)

That looks like some next level stuff right there ! I gotta check this out…..
Most people just make their own cloner. Take a tub and drill holes in the lid for the netpots, add an air stone if you want. I got this as a b-day present and have used it a few times now, always with success. I love the 'airhose' on the bottom that covers most of the bottom. It makes a lot of bubbles and keeps the humidity above the res >98%.

If I were growing in soil, I'd just use plugs or just a 4" pot of soil. Since these are going in the RDWC system, though, the DWC cloner is perfect. I'll take the best four for the RDWC, and the rest will be re-potted in soil and given to friends & family.

Did someone say "make their own cloner"?

Congrats on the rootlets!
Thanks Shed. I'm happy to see the rootlets, but even happier to not see any bug damage on any of the clones. They'll still get a good spraying when they go into the RDWC, though.
Darwinism, baby! :thumb:
Only the strong survive!

The clones have been sitting in the kitchen beside the AeroGarden (with lettuce sprouts) for 11 days now. I removed the dome a couple of days ago when I saw they all had rootlets. I also moved the cloner to the other side of the AeroGarden, to get light to the other side. I've been trying to keep the AeroGarden light on as much as possible, up to 24 hrs/day.

The best news is that I still don't see any bugs or bug damage. I'm keeping a good eye on them, and they'll get another spray or three in veg to to make sure. I'm hoping the spraying and washing got rid of any bugs, though.

Right now, it looks like ALL of the clones are going to root. Time to clear out the Vivosun Bud Factory, because these clones will be ready for netpots soon.

Oh, and speaking of getting the Bud Factory ready, I got some new equipment this week. I can't wait to show it off :)

My good friends at @VIVOSUN are letting me try out one of their newest lights, the Vivosun VSFD6500. Here's a little more about this light.

So, I'm going from the VSF6450 to the VSFD6500. The power (645w vs 650w) is about the same. Here are the main differences from the VSF6450:
  • The ballast is built into the end piece, not separate. I'll see what this does to the heat in the tent, but this tent usually needs the extra heat. The current ballast is in the tent.
  • Does not fold. Folding is convenient sometimes, and it's a PITA sometimes. I'm not sure it matters.
  • Detachable bars. I'm not sure how this matters either, yet.
  • Dims down to 25%, VSF6450 only down to 40%. This will definitely help early in the grow, and helps save money as well.
  • Even more controllable with GrowHub. I'll know more when I play around, but I think you can control 0-100% intensity when connected to the GrowHub. I know I can mimic sunrise/sunset and set up different recipes.
    • I believe it also has a tunable spectrum, with seedling/veg/flower modes.
  • Adds far-red (730nm) & UV-A (390nm) diodes. #diodes noted is per bar.
  • More even par map than the VSF6450.
I'm really excited to try this light out in the 5x5 Vivosun Bud Factory. I'm hoping to get this set up in the tent this weekend. Next week I'll move the clones over to the Bud Factory under the VSFD6500 in seedling mode!

NOTE: Right now the Vivosun VSFD6500 is 20% off. Use coupon code LKABUDMAN to take an additional 15% off and you can get this light for around $400 with free shipping. Hurry, this deal ends in two days.

Clones Taken: 8/7/23
Medium: 24-site DWC cloner
Water: Carbon-filtered well water (100ppm)
Nutrients: Clonex solution (440ppm / 5.8 pH)
Other: Spill-over light from AeroGarden

The Colombian Gold clones have been in the DWC cloner for two weeks now. They all still look clean from bugs which is good. There are a few yellow/brown leaves, but these are the lower leaves that were clipped and they will be removed anyways. They are all rooting hard now, I'll have no problem finding four good ones to put in the RDWC.

This weekend I finished up the last grow in the @VIVOSUN Bud Factory and cleaned up the tent. I also switched out the VSF6450 for the new VSFD6500.

The VSFD6500 came in a smallish package for such a big light. Even though there was a little damage to the box, none of the contents were damaged. Everything was packed really well. As a matter of fact, it took longer to remove all the packing materials from all of the light bars than it did to put the light together. The bars just plugged into the ends and used a small hand-screw to hold everything in.

After cleaning up the tent and putting the new light in there, I filled the RDWC up with a H2O2 solution and ran it for a day with all lights off. Then today, I completely drained the RDWC and wiped everything down again. I put the VSFD6500 at 100% and put the exhaust on speed 5. This should make sure everything dries out today. Tomorrow, I'll be filling the RDWC up with nutrients. I can't wait to get these clones in the RDWC :)

I'd almost want four of them extra clones to put in the Blueberry slots. :hmmmm: Just getting out of the hospital though, I better just run the Golden Tiger.

I am so looking forward to seeing this one run, with hopes of it having some of the old Colombian smell and taste.:cheesygrinsmiley::bong:

I'll be putting the extra clones in soil and giving them away. My only regret is that all the clones will be a single phenotype, so I hope it's a good one ;)

Yeah, that's a downside, but it might be a homerun too. :cheesygrinsmiley::bong:

I think you're closest to me geographically.:hmmmm:
