The Quadsquad Thread: A Community For Quadlining

@Jon regularly tops and trains his autos, though he doesn't do quadlining specifically. Maybe he can chime in with the specific caveats for autos.

I don't grow autos but my understanding is that they are sensitive to the correct timing to do the topping, and get the training started.
Thanks, Azi. I hope @Jon gets the message.

Hi Azi and everyone. I just started some Autos for the first time and was wondering if they can also be quaded due to the shorter veg and bloom time. My two strains are 8-9 and 9-10 weeks seed to harvest.

it can be done but is a bit aggressive for autos. ubt type training is the most i'd go with autos until you have a good feel for growing them. there have been folk who quad autos here before.

@bluter , why do you think quadding is more aggressive than UBT? Both have the same single cut although UBT seems to do it more drastically by taking things down a few nodes whereas quadding just pinches the top node off which I would think would be less drastic.

Does the subsequent LST with quadding come into play in your judgement?

Good question. What does UBT stand for?

Hope all is well my friend. Thanks
Hi @scottreid1966 , @Dutchman1990 has a few posts on this thread about quadlining autos, he certainly knows what he's doing with it but it does show it can be done without issue.

Here's a link to one

As Azi said though they are super sensitive on timing and if you do it too late or early you could end up with seriously stunted growth, read through Dutchman's posts and maybe you can glean more info on that, good luck!

you don't have to cut ubt back any more aggressive than a quad. like a quad you just have to plan and know when to top.

the training is a lot less extensive and far easier on the plant, making it good for not stressing autos early. i'm starting a cage grow style ubt right now with some photos.

uncle ben's technique.

I haven't heard of it.

Hi Folks, thought I would check in with a few new photos and a question or two. The first photo is of the veg tent. We have a new light on the way. The “blurple” is from an older 300 watt LED which gets used occasionally for seedlings and veg. The tent itself is 1 metre x 1 metre x 1.8 metres high. So three of the plants are quadlined, 1 LST and 1 manifolded (which I am already regretting since it has shown almost no growth since it was topped 4 days ago). The potato slices are for the fungus gnat larvae. There are only a few buzzing around at present. I am surprised by the differences in the 2 early miss autos. The quad is so much larger than the LST? These are the last 2 early miss seeds that we have. The early miss grows from the same package of seeds that we did previously all grew at the same pace and all ended up the +/- the same size. Go figure!

Nice pics! What do the potatos do?

So, basically one topping and then let go?

essentially. tie back is optional. the idea is to get 4 mains. i switched it up a bit to work with a cage grow and go with 6.

Scott,
This isn't a quad, as defined. This plant was topped after 3+ nodes and thrown into CST. Everything else is pretty similar.
That answers the question I’ve had for several pages. How do you begin? So wow. Those huge beasts are all coming from 3 nodes?????

That’s incredible.

I haven’t done any quads for 18 months or so. I followed @Dutchman1990 and it worked well for my 1st auto grow. I got just shy of 12oz from 4 autos. I have done more autoflower genetic research and I’m trying quadlining again for the next several autos in my perpetual.

Stay funky Bros!
Omg! Beautiful growing :)

I had a brain explosion and quadlined a White Widow yesterday, so I’m madly scrambling today trying to work out what I do now lolling!

You train the four remaining limbs to the side of your pot while using the internodes to fill in any spaces. I like to remove the pairs of nodes on each branch that grow both up and down since the top ones will want to take dominance and the lowers grow funky twisting around the stem to grow up. The idea of the quad is to get balanced growth all around.

Once they reach the pot edge you let them grow up until they get to the max height to your lights that you can afford keeping the stretch after flip in mind.

It's a nice, easy traing approach that gives you a really nicely shaped plant in the end with lots of nodes with limited effort.

Vraiment merci pour toutes ces précieuses informations, il y a longtemps que je parcours des tutos mais là c'est claire et précis. Merci encore 👍👍👍
