The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

For what it is worth, this is how I did it for years. I don't think it was nearly as strong as it could have been but I would freeze all my trimmings and do the old school slow cooker method of making butter or oil out of it. Just tossed it into the oil or butter straight out of the freezer. Always worked, but not the brain warping kind that some folks describe making. A couple of brownies were good for a movie and a nice deep sleep. I always ran 3 or 4 plants at a time and just did the smaller trimmins and no big leaves.

Why wouldn't the magic butter (i have no experience with one) not get hot enough for trimmings but would be enough for bud?
Bob ;)

The machine makes butter at 160 degrees F. Decarb needs to hit near 250. If I decarb the leaves it'll work. I found Cajun's instructions for drying in the oven and I think I'll give that a try. It's 100 degrees F for an hour, then grind and check for moisture.

That won't work. My oven doesn't go any lower than 170 degrees. I broke them up onto a tray. I'll dry them overnight and decarb in the morning. It probably won't amount to much, but one never knows. I was hoping to find more popcorn in that bag, but I don't grow much popcorn on my plants.

I figure I may not get buzzed from it but I'm still getting the cannabinoids. It's gonna be a long few months. :laughtwo:

I'm happier with that. If I'm going to supplement in here with CFLs I need to leave it open. It gets wicked hot in there. It makes a most pleasant lighting addition in the room. I miss that when its all closed up, so this works well for me.

Sue,
I had a friend who would put fan leaves in a closed paper bag for a few days in a warm place. It slows down the drying some and knocks some of the harshness out.

Another thought is to vape it. What I found with the Sage and Sour plant, which is about the same as trim would be, is it vapes decently but most of the oils are gone quickly. In any case you would get more of whatever amount is in the leaves by vaping it. It is not like the old days when you had to roll a hand full of joints and cough your way through four or five to get a buzz.

I never know

I have done this the same way and had great results. I had a little over an OZ of frozen trim. Put it directly in the crock pot with 1# of butter. Left it on low for 24 hours and then strained through a cheese cloth. I use about 2 oz of butter per batch of cookies and they are pretty strong. I can handle 1 no problem but most of my mates who don't use as regularly 1/4 and they are out of this world. :)
Sue I hope your trim works out for you, always fun finding that gem in the back of the freezer to really lighten up your day :green_heart:

Sue! Id love to sit down with you & sample one of those fine brownies! :volcano-smiley:

I just discovered this thread. And to be honest, all it took was SweetSue's opening post to intrigue me.

With 89 internet/forum pages still to read, I know NOT where this will end. BUT ... I fully intend to wander down this path for a while. I see a LOT of potential Promise just from SweetSue's initial post.

Good morning everyone.

It's always so sweet to find a roomful of friends, both old and new, when I roll out of bed.

 You made me laugh right out loud there Canyon. Yes, I've coughed my way through too much nasty shake in my time. I'm shooting for edibles with this batch. I'm not holding much hope for the euphoric effects, but just in case I'll carefully decarb using a more refined time and temperature schedule to optimize the effects.

It looks like Auto Jack Herer is not yet commited to flower, but still vegging - keep up the good work! She's growing bigger bud stalks and more nodes :)

I got a small catch in my throat reading that, because I'd already figured that out. This is so new to me, but it's becoming instinctive.

Your journal reads like a novel. I literally got a lump in my throat. Had to choke back the tears. Here's to you Sweet Sue. Love the swick idea!!! I might try it in future grows.

I'm so pleased you've enjoyed the read Noob4x4grow. That's probably the best compliment you can give a writer. When I started here at :420: I wasn't aware I had this talent to communicate digitally. It's reassuring to get the positive feedback.

Have you checked out our SWICK thread? It's the blue link in my signature line. We've had great success as a community learning to use the SWICK together.

Thanks for the input RheinRover. I hope it gets me high too. :laughtwo:, though at this point I'm more concerned about getting the cannabinoids into my system. Any euphoria will simply be icing on the cake.

:welcome: to the journal. Are you finding everything to your satisfaction? If I can be of any service, please don't hesitate to call on me. I'll help in any way I can.

Sue! Id love to sit down with you & sample one of those fine brownies! :volcano-smiley:

You know I'd love to share one with you Scottay. :passitleft: Pass to the left please. :battingeyelashes:

Thank you Dim and a warm welcome to you too. :hugs: I'd hope you keep in contact with us in real time as you wander, but then that would have been why you subbed, wouldn't it? Haha! Any of the important gardening stuff we hit periodically, but there certainly is a wealth of information and, I'd hope, lots of good reading in those 89 pages.

Make yourself comfy and please, don't hesitate to ask anything. I have no problem answering the same question umpteenth times. I'd rather you ask and let me answer than have you not ask. The house rules are love and respect. Within those loose parameters we welcome your input.

Let's get the post out of the way, since I'm already here.

Daily Update: Day 31 & 33

Not a whole lot going on today, other than the CBD Critical Cure is finally ready for the next drench, a TransWater. The Critical Mass, on the left, still has a couple days.

In the Auto tent, everyone's looking good. I'm going to leave them alone today and do the next adjustment tomorrow. I just figured out that you keep training them until you notice that they've begun to slow down what would have been vertical growth before you tied her down. Hey! I'm catching on, aren't I? :laughtwo:

Auto Jack Herer, left, and Med GOM 1.0

Quietly lighting up the corner of my living room, the Dark Devil Auto is now at just under 15.5". She's gonna make me rearrange this closet to get that light higher, and that's going to require a complete dismantling, so let me think on that.

image36509.jpg

I have eight tops. Let me get the max out of them.

image36510.jpg

Back to my study and writing. So much to translate. You all have a wonderful day. Hopefully I'll get out to some other yards today. I've been in a study and writing frenzy the past couple days, looking up to discover six hours have flown by. I love learning. :battingeyelashes:

Thanks for stopping by. Get out there and spread that joy.

:Namaste:

I rearranged my living room last night - consolidated the boxes of hobby stuff still awaiting pickup into a tight pile, moved the recliner and table back up against the pile and gave myself three times the open space I'd had for the past eight months. I feel like I can breathe again.

I peeked in here again and I think all the HB guys would agree that she's not quite ready yet for that next drench. Maybe tomorrow. It's been 11 days, so fairly close to the schedule. I keep looking at them and thinking of all those tiny roots spreading out seeking water, and how much I want more of them before I reward them with a thorough drenching. :battingeyelashes:,

If anyone disagrees with me, please speak up.

It's interesting that they have such different postures, isn't it? :hmmm:

Yes, particularly at this age, they really benefit from a full dryout. The one on the left is gorgeous, running full speed right now. :cheesygrinsmiley: The one on the right has been droopy for a couple days but hasn't wilted. This is what will fool a lot of growers - she seem thirsty, right? But she didn't wilt today. :hmmmm: So ... it's her roots, not the soil moisture. She'll recover faster if you let her wilt.

Thank you Graytail. Look at how well you taught me. All those pictures we posted in my last journal were so helpful. I almost fell for it, but I could hear you off to the edge saying "Not yet Susan." :laughtwo: Her top is still reaching for the light.

I agree, the Critical Mass, on the left is a CBD Crew seed. I'm so impressed with the vigor of this plant. They're at 7-7.5" and they feel like they're going to be huge! Healthy little buggers.

It's interesting, the way you phrased that "She'll recover faster if you let her wilt." I hadn't thought of it like that. Hmmmm..... Something to think about while I pulse. It has such broad implications beyond cannabis cultivation it might be a minefield, but what's life without a little risk? :laughtwo:

And what a tragedy it is that such a concept is startling and counter-intuitive in this century, hmm?.

Lack of deprivation, with the strain and adaptation it causes, produces weak stems and unhappy leaves. Leaves are necessary for growth. :cheesygrinsmiley: And you need strong stems to support that growth.

I think a lot about that these days, while I stumble around in this increasingly "safe" world.

[Edit] I loved Chauncey Gardiner ... an almost spiritual film.

Thanks for the welcome Sue! You have answered so many of through the course of your journals. You have such a great way of writing things so that everyone can understand.
I know with you nearly to the end of your stash have you ever eaten your ABV? ( already been vaped) I like to save all of mine and just sprinkle on a piece of toast with a little peanut butter and nutela. Works great when you're in a pinch and I think would be a great way for you to keep the cannabinoids in your system. And always for me the best part is you get 2 uses from it, enjoy the yummy vape hits then enjoy the nice edible body high.

Your newest plants look great. Awesome to see where you are now from where you started. What I really enjoy seeing is you using CFL's again. So many people think they are worthless and your journals prove that wrong. And now with even better lights you are still using those CFL's which just shows their worth. If you enjoy a nice zippy let me clean the house high you will enjoy the Jack H. I grew one on my first grow and its been great for me. Taking a 3 week break from growing (vacation yay!) and will come back to grow a few more med focused strains. Looking forward to your reviews since I have a few of the same strains in my grow pipeline.

Wow! You made this gal smile this morning. What a delightful find first thing. I love a conversational man. LOL! Thirty-five years with a man of fewer than few words...... Now you see why I have so many posts. Hahaha! I sense your vacation is going well? Yay!!!!! :slide:

I love my CFLs. They make all the difference in the end. They allow me to approach gardening with surround lighting. I have limited space and I grow for oil as well as recreation. I need all the trichomes I can muster.

I'm flattered that you've read my earlier journals. That's a lot of reading and a lot of pain I dragged you all through. You have my respect for getting through.

Speaking of writing, I was wondering if I could bounce pieces off you guys now and again. I'm working on what I hope would be a primer of sorts on increasing bioavailability with cannabis, attempting to break down the technical jargon into something anyone could follow. As I finish a piece I'd like to get some feedback so I could firm it up. Would you all be open to that?

I was writing these for the cancer protocol thread but that's Cajun's thread and I hadn't counted on the fact that our voices are so different that I'm creating confusion there, so I thought this might work here, since I'm all about healing.

Are you guys game?
