The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

Glad you had the spinosad on hand. I still need to order some just to have it around. The plants themselves look like they are not bothered by the thrips too much...yet. But you are on the case and all I have read says the spinosad works wonderfully on thrips. I made brownies the other night (virgin ones lol), and I dragged a toothpick through the batter to make the cool lines. Wasn't as good as yours look though!

:laughtwo: I fake it most often. LOL! I noticed today that I've gotten pretty good at laying the lines of caramel down. Keep working at it. You'll figure out the depth. It's just below the surface, kinda like tattooing.

Congratulations on the brownies. How were they? Will you be making more? I have enough for one more batch after this one and then that's it until I harvest. You can be sure I'll be hoping for a banner harvest this time. Three of these six are for me.

Do yourself a favor and order the spinosad, then hope you never need it. :battingeyelashes:

While an army of venus fly traps sounds awesome, I don't think they eat enough to control pests. 6 fungus gnats per plant isn't really enough for pest control.

Now Jack in the Pulpit or other pitcher plant is likely to be as effective as sticky flypaper - but prettier. Outdoors, the pitchers seem to be out only a few weeks a year.

I'm with Rado on this. If the gnats and thrips even triggered the trap, you would need an army. A yellow rimmed Jack would be interesting for the gnats. Don't know if thrips are attracted to yellow too.

Daily Update: Day 24 & 26

Not much to see today.

The auto tent.

I'm moving the restraining pin out a bit more every day on both plants. The Fantasmo Express has some side branches about ready to pin down too. This is fun to play with.

The photo tent. They're both up about a 1/4" overnight.

The Dark Devil Auto is the tallest and most vigorous of the bunch. She stunned me today when I pulled back the curtain. She's at 7.5" already I moved the light up as far as I could for now. I'll adjust more later.

I do so hope this one turns out to be as pretty as everyone else's.

Moving along nicely. :battingeyelashes:

This Thursday is my scheduled pickup of household items and it can't happen soon enough. :laughtwo: My apartment is a labyrinth of boxes waiting to be carried out. It's a beautiful sunny day out there and I'm thinking the real labyrinth might need a visit. After Callanetics though. I'm starting to get excited again now that the vacation softness has begun to melt away.

Back to my studies and packing. Have a wonderful day everyone. Get out there and spread that joy now. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Hey Sue, top of the day to ya ! Ya, just cruisin around....wonderin if i should post another round of pics on my thread tonight.....hmmm.

If my vote counts, then I'll be looking for those pictures later tonight. :battingeyelashes:  You know we can't get enough of your girls. :laughtwo:

I have SNS 203 and 217. 203 mentions thrips 217 doesn't. Should I start with 203?

Pigeons - Use 1 tbs of Monterey Garden Insect Spray (Spinosad) in a gallon of water spray that on your plants AND the soil. This will tco them ASAP. Do not wait, thrips can get out of hand fast. Also you need to apply this again in 3 days ... not 2 not 4 not 5...or the eggs will hatch and you will have to apply 2x in 3 days again until you get it done in that manner (every 3 days).

This is how I started my IPM routine. You can add in 1/2 tsp of Protekt to that as well. Silica is GREAT to help plants defend against pests

1666763682444.png

And to that I add in 1-2 tbs of Fulpower - fulvic acid FTW

You can of course source elsewhere but Amazon usually has best prices and you can manage to get those 3 items from the manufacturer.

They are all organic 100%

Now if you don't have Neem cake meal that's another thing I make a tea with and add to the above. Neem is a natural pest repellent - I even use it for mice and it works not kidding. It doesn't kill mice per se.. they eat it and well... never mind. No more mice ... and no more bugs either and it's good for plant health.

I'm not sure what those chems are you listed but what I posted ^^^ will get rid of what pests you have there AND your plants will love you long time. You can then do that application 2x a week all the way to harvest for a pest free grow.

Oh you can foiler spray your plants with this - Chapin 2000 FTW:

With that ^^^ you can then foiler spray your plants with all sorts of goodness - even water they like to uptake thru leaves just like when it rains outside. The plants will absorb thru leaf surfaces almost as much as thru roots. I'm an organic grower so foiler spray with nutrient teas is what I like. It's pretty easy too, if it wasn't I wouldn't do it. I'm the laziest gardener out here.

This is something that you should not wait on. Thrips multiply VERY fast and also fly (not very well TFG).

Good luck...

Oh almost forgot about Sue - Good to see you going green again!! :circle-of-love: Much love and congrats on the MOTY... wooohooo WOW that's nice!

BobBrown- :thankyou:

That's incredibly kind of you to prepare such a well thought and well articulated answer. I'm glad I seen it. I will do my best to check these items out and source them accordingly. I'm a fan of Amazon as well but I'm a bigger fan of our sponsors and I'm certain they'll have the same if not similar products.
That leads me to my next point.. The stuff I referenced earlier is the Sierra Natural Science line of organic pest control products. If you check out their website they have free sample packages to send out. I was honoured enough to win these with the MOTM title. Certainly glad I had them in the tool box of resources.

But again thank you for that! And know that I'm taking every immediate precaution to ensure these little fella's are taken care of.

:high-five:

Thank you BB. I hadn't thought to add Agsil and FulPower to the spray. I have both on hand and use them as part of my regular drench schedule, so I'll include them. Thank you ever so much for the heads up on the timing. The instructions on the bottle say every five days, but I trust your boots on the ground experience here. Can you believe I missed this twice? At least this time I had the spinosad on hand, at your insistence. I'll be sure to hit them again on Wednesday.

Thank you as well arteekay. They keep growing like little angels. I get a bit spoiled at this stage. :battingeyelashes:

Pigeons, I also support the sponsors of the site. That being said, the prevailing wisdom in the gardening kingdom at large is that there's really no substitute for spinosad when dealing with thrips. I'd invest in a bottle if I were you.

:ciao: Susan. Not too often we catch each other on at this time. Typically I'm in bed haha

Ill purchase this asap

:ciao:

I feel like if I could just peek around that corner a little faster.........
