Thank you Heirloom. You saved me the trouble. I'll keep the light leaks in mind. These weren't prize tents. I purchased them. For a mere $149 for the pair. I call it a bargain.
The instructions tell you it's as simple as assemble the frame, unzip the tent and slip it onto the frame. Yeah. That's not gonna work. The material has no stretch give at all. So you have to get creative.
My system for putting them together:
- Assemble the top and bottom frames. On the corner pieces the channel with two holes for the bullet locks are for vertical poles.
- Unzip the entire tent and locate the bottom.
- Place the bottom frame in place. Insert the bottom vertical poles.
- Now the tricky part. Feed the top frame up into place. Working carefully begin inserting the top vertical poles. Insert into the top corner bracket first and then do whatever it takes to get it together with the bottom vertical pole. This usually means pulling them off to the side to get them to slip them together and forcing them back into locked position. Don't worry. It'll work. You have to balance the top frame while you do this, but it's easier than it looked or sounds. The first two corners are the toughest.
- Drop the ceiling supports in place.
- Install the floor insert that may or may not hold water.
If this ditsy blonde grandma can do it you can too.
I'd definitely purchase another one from Mars-Hydro. I still have my prize tent in reserve, so it's unlikely I'll need to, but based on price and overall quality I'd recommend them.
