The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

I need a place to relax for a while Sue can you help! I had a big day gardening and it's hot and I can't breath out of my nose because I don't want the thoughts to fall out of my head. If I breathe out of my nose my thoughts will fall out and I don't want my thoughts to fall out.

Haha congrats on MOTY lots of love Sue!

The Crees are only 10 watts each, and they don't run at full power, so I would guess 5 watts = 80 watts total. Not much, but they're far more efficient than the 3 watt monos, so probably more like 100 watts effectively.

(I have the 350XML.)

[Edit] So you could use it in a 2x2, run the Crees on full, and then add another 100 or so watts of blurple ... :hmmm:

When I said 300+ I was looking at reflections in the photo that made it apear there were 32x12 + 16x4 Cree reflectors.

Without the reflections, it appears there are 16x16 Cree reflectors. That is only 256 total Cree so it seems their specs are a bit off. I suspect their overall analysis is just fine. That's a lot of light.

I think the reflectors are only on the XML chips.

Optimal Coverage With Precision 90 Degree XML Collimator Lens

24 Cree chips (they would list more if they had it, it is a selling point). The others are Bridgelux, which is also a respectable company, but there is no need to put reflectors on 3w diodes.

24? Oops, I counted wrong. So that'd be 120 watts from the Crees.

It also occurred to me that the panel itself is probably bigger than 2x2 anyway.

I didn't even think about the size of the light GT. If the air intake is on the sides of the panels like the pictures make it look, I wouldn't use this in a 2x2 tent. Time for the 4x4!

LOL, yah, that's a no go.

I'm trying to picture a cartoon version of that tent, completely stuffed with light, bulging out of every possible stitch and zipper hole, with an atmosphere something like Death Valley.

Too ... much ... light.

See? It's possible.

A balloon about to burst...lol

It reminds me of the moment Cajun informed us that a full plant extraction meant that you were pulling as much oil off the plant as you could, using buds, and possibly sugar leaves, but it DID NOT mean using every bit of the plant in the process, roots and all. At the time he mentioned that he could just imagine one of us trying to shove an entire plant into the pot. Of course, you know I had to ask if it was me he imagined doing that. Lol! I'd have been the one crazy enough to think "Hmmmm.....maybe I can get this to work. Leave no cannabinoid behind!"

The image of the tent bursting with light......

I'm going to speak with the daughter about setting up the 4x4. I can't get a light this effective and not use it. That would be wrong on every possible level.

Let me roll my butt out of bed and let the joyful games begin. I get such delight in that moment every morning when I smile like a gleeful child, kick my feet with anticipation and announce with deliberate expectation of the wonder ahead in this new day

"You bet I'm ready to play!!!"

Join me. Embrace the day. Fill it with the wonder of an exploring child. Take 15 minutes at some point and do nothing but quietly listen to the passage of your breath. I'm still learning this little trick to the reset.

Mostly, laugh and love, and share that energy at every opportunity. Let's make a conscious effort to light up our little corner of the cosmos with loving. :hugs:

Joy my friends. Share it. Watch it increase with every share. My favorite kind of cosmic alchemy. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I do love LED lights. They do have the spectrum for veg and flower! and they don't have to be cooled the way other lamps do. So you can set the lamp much closer to the lights!

That would depend on the LED panel rik. My Advanced panel specifies no closer than 2 feet, where the BudMaster says let them grow to the light, and my Mars-Hydro panels can be within 12-14".

Well that's closer than a 1000w HPS Anyway, I just have high quality low wattage LED lights. 3 15w lamps. I will soon upgrade them to 3 54watt LES lights. Because those lights are 60 euro's each and only use 24watts but they have a light intensity of 54 watts. I didn't even know that was possible but apperently they managed to make that light to lower the ampere to 0.75!

Hushsoundz,

Your crop does not have to be in total darkness. Just keeping it out of strong light. It is not that big of a deal.

My thoughts would be to hang it over a shower rod until you can jar it. A bathroom exhaust fan and keeping the door closed will keep the odor down to the one room.

If you go with boxes watch for mold and keep turning them so they dry evenly. A small fan to keep air moving in the room will help with humidity.

Well I've decided to go the paper-bag route. I've removed all the nugs from their stems and placed them in a brown paper bag to dry. They've been drying now for 7 days. The outsides of nugs are dry to the touch. I will eventually move them into a mason jar. There's still a bit of leafy smell like fresh cut grass but you smell the citrus , minty , sweet smell from the flowers.

They look perfect! :hugs: :yahoo: Excellent harvest. Reps for thrill of first harvest. This was your first, wasn't it?

Those smells speak to a sweet terpene blend. The Carnival has a nice citrus snap to it and I find it very uplifting, to the point of spiritual. Geez, I love the stuff when it's fresh. I can't believe Graytail's still holding out. :laughtwo:

It occurred to me this morning that I have a week to decide what I'm doing with all these plants before vacation. :thedoubletake: I know, it's not like I haven't been talking about it non-stop or anything. :laughtwo: I want the least amount of stress for the daughter, which probably means I'm going to let some dry out.

Which leads me to my next post. :ciao:

Thank you Sue. Yes. This is my 1st harvest. I'm super excited. I haven't been able to test the smoke yet because my takes urines quarterly. So I'm waiting for them to do that then I will have about 2 months to smoke freely.
I haven't weighed the nugs yet but I guess I should put of curiosity and to see how I can improve. Thanks again. All the input has be a major blessing.

Weekly Update: Carn1:4 (Day 113, Flip + 27) - Friday, February 3, 2017

It started with a simple post.....

Culling plants is good gardening. A sick plant can become a mite/mold factory. Get 'em out of there pronto. It happens to the best.

I don't like throwing large, perfect plants away like that because it's fun...well, actually it is fun. but I do it 'cuz there's no room.

I stumbled onto the post this morning over at Doc's thread and realized he was right. I've been fighting mites and losing the battle with her, and now there isn't anywhere on her that they aren't.

IMG_389912.JPG

So I stripped her bare of mite-ridden leaves, trimmed her back to the upper reaches only and told her we we're into do or die. This grow segment isn't about medicinal as much as culinary, and I can choose to see any mite carcasses that survive the wash as extra nutrients I wasn't initially planning on. :cheesygrinsmiley: It's not like they carry any disease, or at least not one I'm aware of, that won't bake off in the decarb alone.

IMG_390013.JPG

It looks brutal, and it felt moreso, but it also felt like the right thing to do. I suddenly reminded myself that this was an experiment, much like DDA3, who ended end up stripped and then gave me some of the best trichome development of that class. So you never know, do you? I know I like the potentiated Carnival brownies enough that I'll contain the mites in here until harvest and then scrub and disinfect the tent before using it again.

IMG_390116.JPG

When this tent is clean I may shift the other tent inhabitants into here and scrub that one down as well.

Everything bud-related was tossed into a hot bath of baking soda and lemon juice and left for a few minutes.

IMG_390210.JPG

What I tossed.......

IMG_390314.JPG

.....what I kept. All of this was carefully rinsed in warm, clean water.

IMG_390510.JPG

It's drying. I'll check later to see if any mites survived. All waste materials have been double bagged and are waiting in the hall for disposal next trip down the stairs.

IMG_390718.JPG

The entire time I was doing this chore that I'm certain someone without my curious nature and artistic appreciation for the shape and form of the gorgeous plant material I was working with, complete with the most refreshing olfactory treats, I was considering that my future could make me very happy by including a stint as an artisan cannabis oil producer. :battingeyelashes:

I'll be turning this into some oil that'll have a cannabinoid profile you won't find in a fully mature plant. A little research is called for. This will be all for my own consumption. I realize it won't be euphoric, but euphoria isn't everything, is it?

IMG_390811.JPG

IMG_390916.JPG

It'll dry here for the day, while I decide which oil I want to make. I'm thinking a fresh infused olive oil might be just the ticket. Something along the lines of PsyCro's method, or possibly in the oven with the 36 hour oil....Hmmmmm...... That feels like the winner. :laughtwo:

IMG_391019.JPG

She'll either adapt, or she'll die. Either way, we're gonna see results soon, I figure. She's scheduled for her first CAT on Sunday, second one on Thursday. Whew!!! I'll drop her into the tote before I go and the daughter will only have to toss the water into the tote, zip up and walk away. :cheesygrinsmiley:

IMG_391117.JPG

You see, she's ready for the CAT.

IMG_391215.JPG

IMG_391314.JPG

What's left is up under the magnificent Illumination of the BudMaster. I like my chances here. I didn't leave the mites much to work with, I gave myself the opportunity to experiment with a new oil formulation and learn something new about cannabis oils, and I allowed myself to keep from feeling one moment of frustration from beginning to end.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the true wonder here. That brutal act was carried out with a song on my lips and a bounce in my step, working at top speed and purely on instinct. It felt more wrong to stop and much more right to keep going. Every time I started to hesitate I chose to laugh and let go again. Let's see where that takes me. :slide:

Never boring around these parts, is it? :laughtwo:

To be honest, if I didn't grow for medicinal oil production, which requires me to measure in order to control cannabinoid doses, I'd never weigh. I'd judge the harvest based on density of the nugs, - you look like you nailed that - and the smells you get after that initial first week hanging. You nailed that too. :high-five: I always jump the gun on that week's drying, but I hang mine in an open breezeway, and most of my nuggets aren't as beautifully dense as yours appear.

Maybe next time I'll try the paper bag method. I think I'll have some come down right before I leave for paradise. I can try that, and spare the daughter even more anxiety.

When you jar them up, take note of the number of jars. Make that the game.... next time more jars. :laughtwo: When you get the chance to smoke that first bowl, think about sharing that with us somewhere on the forum. Then you'll always have the digital record to visit, and rekindle that warm and content feeling that's going to wash over you when you feel it kick in.

There's nothing as sweet as that first buzz from your first harvest. :dreamy:

I'd love to see a photo of that nug in sunlight. It's a beauty :)

Congrats Sue. Well deserved. Can't think of a friendlier, more open and welcome journal to follow…

:thankyou:

And have a great trip.

Well thank you oldnoob. :hugs:  What a pleasant greeting to find when I returned to post. Now I feel extra special.

:welcome: to the joyful journal. Be forewarned, I'll be starting the next addition in about two weeks, but I'll let you know about that in advance. :battingeyelashes: I see you chose to drop your 50th post here. You now have access to the PM system. :woohoo:

Make yourself at home. I have some updates to get to. :cheesygrinsmiley:
