The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

That harvest was from 13 months ago. I chose those pictures to show the light hoods (the word Sunleaves) and drying cannabis.

41 grams and 42grams. About 1.5 oz each.

The Girl Scout Cookies in the hamper were sweet and powerful. She was a gifted clone that also gifted my grow with spider mites.

The breeder mystery seed hanging on stems was less powerful. I mainly grew her again because her mother went 183g (6.5 oz.) A nice haul for indoors w/no nutes :)

No nutes, worm castings only, was easy, but it didn't turn out to be a good long-term strategy. It would have been better if I did foliar feeding sprays. I'm doing Doc Bud soil, nutes, and spray now.

This mite concern with clones is pervasive in the marketplace. Even Doc got them this past year, from his visit to the Cannabis Cup. Why is this such a big problem? Is there no control exerted? Is there no method of practice that could stop this problem from spreading, or is it simply up to the cultivator to isolate incoming plants or clones? Does isolation even work? This seems to be unstoppable.

It is up to the grower to quarantine clones coming into the grow space.....that is exactly how I got infested 2 years ago....I wanted to increase my strain offerings and I traded some of my clones for some of another grower's plants....a dangerous practice that I will never ever again do....either purchase or be gifted seeds, or clone your own, period....buyer beware and it happens so quickly and the infestation is so dangerous that I will never ever want that to happen again....

My wholesaler is a dirty grower that depends on others for clones and he gets mites constantly...he makes shatter hash out of the mite infested rubbish and puts it into cookies....now these patients have no frigging idea what they are ingesting....forgive my indignation but I think it is abominable.....if I ever go into his grow, I come home and disrobe in my garage and go directly to the washing machine with my clothing...he doesn't even know enough to disinfect his pots and equipment....there are a lot of dirty growers out there....more than you think or can even imagine....

Treated myself to a new tool today. :cheesygrinsmiley:

This'll make filling the SWICK reservoir easier. It'll also make mixing up smaller batches easier, but mostly I needed something akin to a pitcher for keeping the reservoir filled. I've been filling with a solo cup, and that's a lot of trips back and forth from the sink. :laughtwo: At least it's movement, eh?

I also realized that the bowl I use to mix up my brownies is one I can use in the oven, so there's no reason to dirty up the pie pan making the brownie oil. :slide:

This batch of oil I've decarbed initially for an hour, and then with the oil and lecithin for an additional 50 minutes, taking final decarb to the 110 minutes at 230 degrees F. The last two batches I initially decarbed for 90 minutes, followed by an additional 45 minutes to infuse the oil. I think it may have been a bit too much. I'll know tomorrow when I take the first dose.

They get me high, just not as high as the first batch I made with Carnival. This batch of brownies lacked zip, though it got really high marks for spiritual clarity. This adjustment is expected to get me right back up into the zippy space I love so much.

Cannabis alchemy. Ain't this fun? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Are we having a joyful evening to close out a day overflowing with appreciation for the fact that you had another chance to play with the cosmos? :slide: I think I may call it an early evening. Helping the daughter and her partner today translated in ten trips up and down the 40 stairs to the street, carrying heavy bags. They had the apartment treated for bedbugs today, and that meant everything had to be washed. We all own more clothing than we need.

Finding bedbugs in the building again (second time in recent years) prompted them to eliminate so much stuff from their lives. I'm so proud of her for letting all that stuff go. Signs of the protocol working. :yahoo:

No bugs on my side of the building. Of course, I'm an organic grower with enough sense to dust the space with diatomaceous earth, so I don't even worry about such things. The unexpected benefits of being a ganja warrior. :battingeyelashes:

Her mother's pretty worn out though. Time for some good music and some top-quality cannabis to balance out the day.

I think you are a humble grand master who wouldn't stumble or falter using unfeminised seeds!

You sweet, sweet man. :laughtwo: I've run regular seeds before, so it's not that I'm incapable, just unprepared for the space necessary. This is one of those evolutionary steps I'll get to someday, along with breeding. This year is about environmental control.

Shawnee, that's appalling. It made me want to shower just reading it. Having gone through this experience it chills me to consider the devastation potential in a medicinal grow. I've been lucky to have the plants so separated from each other, so I think I stand a decent chance of getting it under control in the end.

You can bet I won't be accepting any clones from anyone I don't know for certain is clean.

Yup thats why when I did photos it was worth a pheno hunt to find an ideal mom from seed and not just purchase clones. I received a cut from a close friend that brought me a famed pink kush pheno from BC. I left it in the garage by accident after i potted it up then forgot. A week later i seen it and it had a few suspicious spots so i fed it and left her be. Good thing too, it was mites! I plastic bagged it and set it out side to freeze then took it to the local apartment building garbage bin to dispose. He ended up tearing down and starting over, his whole garden was a mess.

Have you grown from clones Sue?

Emerald really looks happy compared to the brix plants. what did you figure out to be the issue? PH?

:green_heart::green_heart::green_heart: xP for the hempy win Dear Sue

Court thursday hope this BS bail restricted house arrest to be set aside. :high-five:

Yep, Hab, I've been there....I had to shut down completely for 3 months, disinfect all my grow equipment and 1800 square feet of wall space and floors, burn sulfer, the whole 9 yards....I questioned my motivation, my self esteem plummeted, and I had to have a heart to heart with me, myself, and I.....in the past 6 months I have been gifted 10 new strains (seeds) by a 420 member, and have another 10 new strains (seeds) on the way to me from another, so I am so glad I got back in the game and can now offer my patients 25 strains to choose from....unheard of from a caregiver standpoint....I can open my own dispensary for God sakes.....note to self....do not EVER bring clones into your grow from ANYONE....cloning is so easy and fun, let that bring joy to you as part of the growing process.....

I just received two dozen clones from a friend of a friend the other night. Some strains are worth any bug risk. I do keep a constant IPM program going though.

36, if I may ask, where are you quarantining these 2 dozen plants in proximity and in regard to your greater grow...?

These clones went in tent #2, in a separate building on the property. They aren't quarantined, they are in a tent with two mothers and a clone dome.

These were very small, freshly rooted clones, making it very easy to inspect under a scope and ensure complete coverage with sprays.

Well :cheertwo: sounds good so far....keep us posted and I wish you great success... :cheertwo:

Rad,

Been there with buying mites.

The no nutes statement is interesting. If you don't mind, what is the short version of your soil mix?

I never know
canyon

The free mites weren't all bad. I learned how to keep them out of sight and out of mind. I also got White Widow crossed seeds from the Girl Scout Cookies and the Tangerine Dream-ish clones that supplied the mites. I started a Tangerine Widow seedling earlier this month :)

I was using the BuildaSoil clackamus coot mix and not doing much with my teas like I planned. And it took forever to get decent enmvironmentals - And I read more and more about worm castings - and I just decided that "less is more" is a good philosphy and tried to see how low I could go. I figured I could add things back in after I saw what soil only could do. I exhausted my soil half-way through flower on the second planting. Worm castings didn't bring things back during the 3rd planting.. Then I did a multi-state move.

My conclusion was no nutes, worm castings only, was easy, but not a long-term strategy. It would have been better if I did foliar feeding sprays.

When I restarted growing after a few months off, I had to start new soil and chose a new nutrient strategy.

For simplicity and quality, I decided to go with Doc Bud's Hi-Brix kit: soil, nutes, foliar spray, schedules, and online support at 420 magazine - all for a reasonable price :)

In a few months I'll know how Doc Bud's near organic program compares to my first Dr. Earth organic nutes grow and multiple BuildaSoil worm castings only grows. According to reports, the Doc Bud soil performs better on the 2nd and 3rd runs than the 1st run. The first run is looking good to me. My plants have never been happier :)

I grow in my home, No amount of weed or strain is worth bugs too me.

I grow in my home as well. Three of my areas are in my 14x32 studio apartment, my 12x15 is in my garage below me, and another tent in a separate building. No problems with pests or anything.

Some strains are definitely worth a bug risk, such as something incredible that isn't released, some elite strains, and very old genetics. Bugs can be exterminated, incredible strains for free are much more rare. I don't go to any shops, and I ask plenty of questions to prepare me for additions.

The clones I'm running now, and that's all of the Carnivals I have going at the moment, are the first time I ever cloned at all Hab. I think I did pretty damned well for a first time out of the gate with compromised soil. :blunt: It was a learning experience, that's for sure.

The issue was I simply wasn't feeding her enough, complicated by poor pH control. I also ordered some CaliMagic. Yeah.... I decided to pay attention. :laughtwo:

I agree with you, she's the happiest Carnival of the bunch. Kind of ironic, isn't it? From worst to best. Lol! I'm looking forward to watching her fill out. I'm glad I cloned her.

Thursday...:yahoo: :slide: :yahoo: Freedom awaits you Hab. Next time....leash. :battingeyelashes:  What are you planning for your first official day of freedom?

Stairwells to clean, a dresser to move out (already gone :woohoo::yahoo: - more SPACE!!!), and more Christmas to let go. I decided there's no logical reason to lug all that stuff around when I move. I can create a new Christmas tree. :cheesygrinsmiley:

When I'm done with the chores I'll be sure to get over to the contests and cast the rest of my votes in the monthly and yearly contests. There are sooooo many ways to join the fun and show your support for the joy all those luscious plants bring you when you visit. :laughtwo: They inspire me to keep getting it better and better.

Here, I'll share a link to the main board. Make it easier for you to get to the front door. Then you decide what particular flavor of joyful feeling you were looking for and find a contest that fits that feeling.

420 Contests

Have fun. With it. Let the joy bubble up. It's not hard, in the face of all those plants and nuggets you know someday you'll grow something akin to. :dreamy: Lol! Then get out there and spread the joy far and wide as you go through the rest of the day. Time for some coffee.

:Namaste:
