The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

If you look closely, what he does it to slice the rockwool cubes so they open like a book, then he places the seed inside with the seed husk sitting just above the top of the cube and closes the cube. I've seen the cube re-closed and held together with rubber bands, etc. but not sure what he uses.

This way, he doesn't have to try to "force" a new taproot down the cube and risk breaking it.
Mr.K when using the ( I think they are called) jiffy/peat pellets but they are from coco coir.... do I do the same procedure ( without the cutting as a book) ?
I germinate in water and towel and then place the seed outside of hole with tap root down?

Krip, may I bud....hey Angry, when planting the seed , try and position the "tap root" in the up position cuz in nature it automatically does a 180 and looks for the dirt ...but the first thing it does is turn it self 180 degrees , know what I mean? I'm not sure it makes much of a difference in the end but I remember reading this years ago. Cheers gang!

Sue, don't give up on hempy!

You obviously have a very slow starter (it maybe slow throughout its whole life and may make sense to replace it). The growth rates in the hempys are usually much more rapid than soil and MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more rapid than you're currently experiencing with yours! :)

So what could I possibly be doing wrong K? I'm feeding it regularly. I'll be increasing the nutrient mix today, possibly switching to the next stage, but I'm really unsure as to when one switches. This is an auto, another very stalled one, in a tent I have much higher aspirations for.

This is a technique the poster developed to gently assist the plants into the world. He typically cuts the seed and the membrane off with a knife. If you have a sure hand this is an option, one I've used on many occassion, though I'm more partial to a couple toothpicks. I don't trust my sometimes shaky hands with a knife and a new shoot. It's possible to place the seed into the cube in a more natural position, below the surface.

I like the way he sliced the cubes open. I never thought of that before, but it makes perfect sense.

Once the tap root has emerged I think you'd be better planting it into the cube with the taproot going down. This is just instinct speaking here, so I could be completely wrong.

I'm sitting here thinking, I'm going on vacation for a week in February. My plan, so far, had been to take everything down and do a new start when I came back. I don't like leaving my daughter responsible for my garden. It makes her anxious that she'll kill something. I wouldn't be heartbroken if such a thing occurred, but there's no sense putting her through that if it's not necessary.

But I'm growing two Carnivals, and I WILL be cloning them, so this means I need to come up with a plan to keep the clones alive while I'm gone. They'll be in kit soil and they should be fairly well along by then, so I may be able to get away with setting them on a SWICK for the week. I'll be gone a full 7 days, so the foliar schedule will only be slightly off and I can catch up on drenches as soon as I get back.

Ok, that sounds like it'll work.
I have a friend who just went on vacation and set things up so hos plants would be automatically watered, he grows soil as well. Let me try to get him here.

Who wants to play a game with me? I was listening to Louise Hay the other day and she mentioned that you should look in the mirror every day and say with conviction "I love you!"

When I initially heard that I laughed at the whimsy of it. Then I thought about it some more and went to the mirror and did just that. The effect was so incredible that I resolved to do so at least once a day, every day, preferably in the early morning. I can't tell you how effective this has become. I'm about three days in and getting more excited about it every morning.

I'd like at least a couple of you to do this every day for the next week and report back next Friday morning with your thoughts on how it affected you.

Any takers???? :battingeyelashes:

Mornin SS, As soon as the tap root emerges...it ALWAYS does a 180 turn ...ALWAYS. So if ya plant it so the root's down...no good , cuz now it's gotta do a 180 then another one to right itself...got it. Never plant with it pointing down...ALWAYS UP! Cheers and have a great day girl! :Namaste::high-five:

I've seen someone who gently rubs the seeds on a very smooth emery board, and his seeds germinate in 12 hours in a cup with water. I don't do this anymore because I've killed a couple of seeds by dropping them trying to get them from the cups.

The last seed I killed trying to check on it...

When I pulled a little to see if there was a root, the root broke off. So, now I just leave them in the AeroGarden for 3 weeks before I do anything. :(

And I put them in the plug sideways, I never know what side is up or down...

It took me 47 years, but I finally love myself more than I love anything else! The mirror is probably a great technique. Stepping out of your skin and looking at yourself was what did it for me. Looking at that little girl inside me and asking why I'm not nicer to her, etc. Realizing if I don't love her with all my heart, she really has no one else to look after her. That was how I overcame parents who weren't mature enough to give me unconditional love. I learned to give myself unconditional love, and it's an amazing feeling! :)

You beat me to it.

Years ago I read a short story about a young woman who had a strained relationship with her mother, a free spirit, much like myself. Lol! Her mother used to send her post cards when she was on vacation, not a bad thing on its own. What caused the angst was her penchant for asking her on each one if she was masturbating daily to orgasm, and the postman was reading them before he delivered.

Some stories just rise up over and over again to give you joy. :laughtwo:

Oh, you touched my heart girl. My mother's greatest gift to us was the art of unconditional loving. My father abandoned the family for a "better one", and that screwed me up for most of my life, but those lessons were planted deep and took root tenaciously. I was the last person I learned to love unconditionally, and it was with the help of my soulmate, a man who loved me with unconditional passion for 35 years. I tried to pass that gift on to my own children, and I believe Dale and I were successful in doing that, although being tossed aside by my own son shook me a bit.

I've been getting better at loving myself since Dale died, initially out of a survival instinct but now because I know without a doubt that I'm completely lovable and I like my own company. I deserve the best, including unconditional love and acceptance by myself of who I am. I work in front of a bank of mirrors. I have lots of opportunity to look myself in the eye and tell myself how wonderful I am. :laughtwo:

Off With Their Heads!!!

Time for the first beheading. They'll be growing in a vertically-challenged room, so let's keep them low.
