The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

... I'm going to have to do a bit of family education to get my foot through that door.

I was pretty successful when I needed to do a bit of family education. I have no advice but a ton of encouragement . I can say. It wasn't easygoing but it was not so bad afterwards, Was rewarding in fact they were more impressed with our efforts to help than anything else.

Also, I saw bobrown talking about the 2 spotted spider mite just yesterday or the day before. Pretty sure he called them the Borg. I know he has started war with his IPM. My eyes are now peeled.

:ciao: {{{all smiles}}}

Hey Nismo, I have been trying different germination methods and the most successful one for me has been soaking in paper towel for 12 hours and then placing them scar down and point up inside a rapid rooter cube as far as the hole goes.( this ensures the root exits the pointed tip and must turn downward. This gives it great leverage moving up and out of the hole and removes the seed coat). Then I pinch off some cube and stuff it in the hole. I put a humidity dome on and wet the cubes every day.

The last two times I have gotten 100% success with this method. and you can plant the rapid rooter directly into the soil or any hydro after the roots show. And an added benefit is that in those 25 plants I have never had a seed coat make it out of the cube.

I dont like to confuse the root by letting them show before planting. If you do I think it weakens the plant. The root grows sideways on the paper towel. but gravity is pulling down. This can be confusing and when planted you can see all kinds of weird root formations. Goins sideways or even up in a circle before going down. i wish I could find the article I once read that said you get more females if the root can go down 6 inches before turning. Makes sense as this would tell the plant the soil is deep enough to support growth.

Thanks for this. Granted we haven't had a single issue with germination but I just thought I would ask since there are multiple ways to skin a cat. :thumb:

I can't resist:

1) put seed in soil 1/4" down
2) keep moist
3) 3 days later do the happy dance

It's cake

Thanks for this. Who knew it would be so simple! :laughtwo:
I started out following B A R's technique, but bypassed the Rockwool. I drop the seed overnight. The next morning, assuming they sink, I fold up a paper towel, stick it down into the shot glass to suck up the water, place the seeds inside and pop it all into a ziplock bag. That bag goes into my dark box on top of the fridge. Almost every one is ready to go the following morning. I'd say about 36 hours, start to finish. They'll likely sprout by tomorrow morning, so the whole process takes less than three days.
Thanks sue. See I asked a simple question and received 3 different answers. Obviously we all know how to do this but everyone is different. Crop kings says to do it the way we do it but then bomb seeds says to use the plastic bag.

In all honesty I like the way Shiggity said to do it. Just sounds simple and if it gets the success then awesome. Then starting autos that way would work well also.

Was just trying to pick the brains of the pros. Carry on everyone. :passitleft:

Isn't it wonderful how one simple question can get such different responses?
It's this very scenario that would start an argument and a fight anywhere else on the net over which method is better/easier/effective. There would be names called and I'm sure our sexualities would be called into question as well

I want you guys to know how much I appreciate you!

Thank you for this Shiggity. It reminded me to get rapid rooters. Great info. :high-five: If you remember that article someday let us know.

Back in stealth mode.

Just a quick question sue, on the germination for your seeds. From the time you start them to the time you plop them in soil, about how long is it? We soak for 16-24 hours then paper towel for a day or two then to soil. Now we don't use a baggie or anything. Just curious if that speeds it up or not. Everyone has different ways of doing it and I don't like waiting a week for them to pop lol.

SweetSue, I just realized the ShaggyShed I'm building is kinda a bizzaro version of your grow.
I will follow closely and learn from the great cutie master.
Thank you for your guidance! :thanks:

Daily Update: Tuesday, July 26, 2016

A bit distracted by life and it's excitement today, but I made it!!! :laughtwo: Lets start in the tiny closet, shall we?

The Med GOM 1.0 (Day 38) got a thorough looking over, one leaf at a time and swabbed with 50/50 ISO. No signs of mites, but we know better, so diligence will prevail. She is a pretty one, isn't she?

image15053.jpeg

Beginning to show signs of oncoming trichomes.

image15054.jpeg

Into the Auto tent. That massive swing in humidity was the thunderstorm that rolled through here yesterday while I had everything open.

image15055.jpeg

Dark Devil Auto (Day 36) Look at that beautiful color coming out and still no vertical growth to speak of. I'm gonna have to plant a replacement on Sunday.

image15056.jpeg

Shes starting to fill out at least. If she can just find it in her to grow a little taller. I have to accept that she's a runt, and there's nothing I can really do about it. It's not the first time it's happened to me.

image15057.jpeg

Industrial Plant (Day 8) Still waiting for the tap root to hit the reservoir. I watered her today.

image15058.jpeg

The Carnival twins are still working on breaking free of the soil matrix.

image15061.jpeg

Once they sprout I'll set them up in the tent. They're destined for 10 gallon pots.

That's all from my joyful little corner of the neighborhood. :laughtwo: The landlady mentioned a bit ago that I should bake them some of my famous brownies someday. Well, it just so happened that I had a supply frozen, so I grabbed a couple and ran them down the stairs for them, with cautions about eating only 1/4 at a time and waiting. :laughtwo:

Up until a few minutes ago I wasn't aware they indulged. Lol! They know I do, and they know I promote CCO and cannabis as a healing herb and as a safe and beneficial recreational drug. Now they'll become two of the limited number of people who have had the pleasure of my brownies. I'll be interested to get a report on how they tolerated them.

I've had an amazingly joyful day. My daughter's partner finally located gainful employment after a month or more of being jobless. That means more of my money stays with me, once he starts working and collecting a paycheck. Our money flows between households so no one has to worry about going hungry or be stressed about finances. Now less of my income needs to flow that way and I can divert it to my own pleasures.

Nice how the universe is so generous and I've learned to let it be so in my life. Certainly has made it more interesting to lose negativity and replace it with gratitude. It's all about joyful expression guys, so get out there and spread more joy far and wide. I'm doing a good job of it over here. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

:Namaste:

13 posts...well now...Shaggy, a very warm welcome to the "mag'. You found Sue, a great place to start but, you don't have enough time for this thread..... sue will hold you here with her thoughts and words...:hmmmm:and her plants will captivate you!
All jokes aside, you've stumbled into a really cool place Shaggy, it's filled with fantastic growers , who leave their egos at the door....best part is they're even better people! Cheers, enjoy your stay!:welcome::high-five::bravo:

I finally got caught up on your journal. I like the 50:50 IOS direct application method. gonna try it next time the Borg mites appear.

BTW: I lost a whole batch of clones to mites under a dome with 90% humidity. So that's a myth. By the time I realized that they COULD thrive under high humidity, it was too late to save them. :-(

What a shame AKgramma. That's a painful way to learn that lesson. I probably brought these mites in from the great outdoors. That's how I got the thrips too. If you grow in soil you're going to attract critters.

Everything looks great sweet sue!

Thanks lexort. I'm still waiting to see spectacular growth. Lol!

Thank you for filling in for me Duggan. I'm off doing Callanetics and just taking a quick break to check in. It's good to know you're watching my back. I swung through shaggy's shed. He's in good hands over there.

Looking pretty awesome Sue!

Well hello Bevis. Nice to meet you. :welcome: to my joyful little journal and to the :420: community at large. I hope your finding everything to your liking. I see no link to a grow in your signature line. Thinking of starting one? There's no better way to assure a super harvest than to have your own band of consultants watching your every posted move.

If there's anything I can do to help you become more comfortable in our virtual neighborhood, you have only to ask. :battingeyelashes:
