Let's see if I can save the stalled little one.

Say it aint so...just say it aint so Sue.....I feel like you've come all this way, and are very happy with the kit ....feels like your goin backwards now....what gives! You know everyone is gonna be on ya for this don't ya! ....:thedoubletake:
What did you say......I got nomed for something....GET OUT! Really? Does that mean I have to be nice to ya now..... Cheers eh!:high-five:

Just a thought about the organic vs chemical nutes in liquid form. Microorganisms live in perlite, coco, and vermiculite, as well as on roots. The soil-less mediums allow more oxygen to the roots. That is a good thing for plants and microorganisms, right? IMO, I see no reason organic nutes cannot be used in hempy pots.

Hi AKgramma -

I'm going to play devils advocate here. I'm not shooting you down, I think it's a plausible idea. Just putting my thoughts out there.

My gut reaction was that having organic nutrients, which for the most part require microbial processing to become available, might be an anaerobic smelly problem brewing in the bottom of the hempy pot. I see root rot being a potential issue, more so than with hydro fertilizer.

:Namaste:

I think it depends on how long you go between flushings. In my small 2-3 gallon hempys, I dont have to water more than twice a week. (If I were brave enough, I could go a week). But, one of those flushings can be plain water, so they get nutes just once a week. Do you think that will work?

Organic nutes most definitely can be used in a hempy, however, I believe there are some real advantages to using the hydro nutes.

First, the microbes needed to break down the organic nutes CAN survive in perlite, but not as readily/easily as in other mediums like soil. Part of the "attraction" (I think!) of hempy is that it's an easy transition from soil, but growth rates are comparable to hydro (rapid) and it's simple.

My understanding is that Hempy (the person who invented/popularized this style of growing) tried organic nutes and then switched back to hydro nutes because he found them easier, more rapid growth, and (interestingly enough!) could not tell the difference in taste/quality.

BTW...I personally favor the synthetic nutes in hydro because I believe (maybe incorrectly!) that there's less chance of growing something you don't want in the res (bacteria, etc.). And, we can use things like H2O2 and copper without worrying about killing off the biology.

Everybody take a deep breath. :laughtwo: I knew this was going to start a ruckus. Lol!

Hey there Sue, I know I've been gone a while, but is that bottle neuts I see????? Sorry, but I'm slightly perplexed. There's gotta be some sort of reason. Right?

There's actually several good reasons Cy.
1. I'm participating in a growing style I've admired in Tead's garden for over a year now. We're doing a mentoring thing so I can have a point of reference on hydro growing. I have absolutely no experience with hydro or bottled nutes.

2. When I had to tear my tents down overnight I tried to cut back to two plants in the closet but that dead space in there kept calling to me, so I decided a hempy would be the best use of this space. I've since determined that I need to get the two 2x2 tents back up, but now I'm committed to the hempy experiment.

3. I really enjoy the company of the members that are joining me in this hempy experience. It's introduced me to AKgramma, and I can't believe this is what it took to introduce us. I'm also spending more time around lexort, a pleasure all its own. Then there's Tead and the incredible Weaselcracker. How do I turn down the chance to play in the perlite with all these fine folks?

4. I'm curious by nature and I've always wondered if the product grown in LOS is indeed superior to that grown thoughtfully with bottled nutrients. Now I'll know from my own experience. It concerns me that I sometimes parrot the party line without the experience to back it up. You can bet your life if these hempy pots produce trichomes inferior to what my other mediums are producing I'll ship these bottles off to someone else in the group and return to all soil.

Did those reasons calm your angst? I'm not leaving LOS at all Cy. I have two wonderful no-tills in place and I've no intention of abandoning them. I'm actually learning to run them better this year, now that I'm starting to be myself again.

It ok Duggan. The reason I'm putting up the tents is so that one of them can once again be dedicated to the kit. I'm not abandoning the kit either. I'm not that nuts. :laughtwo: I'm going to be running two Carnivals, if I have the seeds. At the very least one Carnival and a second to be announced. That part of the grow will begin in another two weeks or so.

You obviously don't remember the ruckus I caused by trying the kit. :laughtwo:

You were nominated because you're awesome just the way you are. Don't you dare start modifying your behavior. :hugs:

Ahhhhh shiiiiiiiii.... got the GH up in this bitch. Can't wait to watch you rock some hydro Sue

Thanks Noob. I knew you'd be excited for me. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Thank you. Well said.

There are many methods of cultivation. This site thrives on the concept that we don't disparage any method, but explore them all, in all their glory. Each cultivator finds their own way. My path is more cluttered than many others, but that's a reflection of my curiosity and desire to experience more of life. If I never try hydro, how can I ever speak to the technique? I may find I enjoy it enough to always include one in the mix. I may find I don't care for it at all, although there are many things I'm already appreciating about it.

It's an experiment guys, not a lifestyle change. Tead's quite the charmer. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Daily Update: Friday, July 15, 2016

Gardening chores:
- Watered the hempy pot with some actual nutrients.
- The no-tills got a thorough drenching with the coconut water/aloe juice mix.
- Reset the restraints on the Med GOM 1.0.
- Dropped a new seed.

Care to stroll with me? Let's take a peek into the closet.

Med GOM 1.0 (Day 27)

image14636.jpeg

She's opening up right nice, don't you think? When I started working with them earlier I remember thinking that there's no way she's going to fill this pot. Now I'm pretty certain she will, before we're done.

image14637.jpeg

Dark Devil Auto (Day 25) She's stalled, and I'm getting impatient. *deep breath* I know from experience she'll hit a point and take off, but why can't it be yesterday?

image14638.jpeg

Blow Mind Auto (Day 11) This one being pulled as soon as I've a replacement. The only reason it's still there is because I want to see if she starts to recover. She's an auto, devastatingly stalled for two weeks now. There's no way she's going to be worth the electricity used to grow her. We all know that, I'm just giving voice to it.

Her replacement.

One more glance back at my charges. It bothers me to let one get away from me. It happens Susan. This is how we learn in the big science experiment we call life. How thankful am I to have the wealth of seeds to choose from. I'm in contact with members all the time who struggle to get decent genetics. You can be assured I'm grateful for the generosity of the universe and the way those guys in the Joy Department look after me so well.

Ahhhh........ That feels better. The last two days.... forgetting to post the update.... That kinda threw me. I had legitimate reasons, but I'm going to have to learn to balance being on call for inquiring patients and caregivers with my gardening and documenting responsibilities. The hours fly by on those desks.

Off to do some transcribing. I'm into another 21-Day Meditation Experience with Deepak and Oprah. I always try to get the meditations transcribed and posted on my Surviving journal, since they're part of the reason I'm doing so well at surviving. Transcribing also gets it deeper into my subconscious, always a good thing when I'm striving for lasting change.

While you wander through your piece of paradise take the time to spread a little joy where it wasn't expected. Make someone smile just for having met you. I may not get out today. It's crazy hot in The Burgh today. I have the apartment at a sweet and steady 73 degrees and I think I'll just sit tight and chill. I'll spread my joy in our virtual community.

Thanks for stopping. Everybody ok now? I'd think by now you guys would be famaliar with my tendency to tip the apple cart every now and then. It all works out for the best.

I'll be seeing you around the yards. Have fun everybody. :Namaste:

Before I leave I must comment on the effectiveness of these 5:1 capsules I made. I took one - just one - at 10 AM. That was a full 7 hours ago. It hit my system like a wall in less than ten minutes and dropped me right on the doorstep of my maintenance level. Actually, to be honest, I've been a few steps above maintenance level all day.

To appreciate the intensity of my maintenance level you'd have to try one of my brownies, so Heirloom is the only one of you who can truly understand what that means. This small capsule has kept me righteously high all day long. I was thinking I needed to take another because it's now 5 PM, but that was just out of habit. When I looked up I realized I'm still flying. I'll wait a while longer.

This is an extremely cost effective way to consume cannabis. The process I used also potentiates the cannabinoids way beyond what they'd be on their own and increases bioavailability to just below what you'd get with IV administration.

Good reasons why some more of you should be experimenting with the BioBomb.

Ok, I'm climbing off the soapbox now. :laughtwo:

Hello my friend. I've been missing you and I stay so busy these days I haven't been around your journal. My apologies.

:hugs:  :hugs:

I just wanted to do post #19,001 on my own journal. Almost missed this. :laughtwo:

I feel like I'm one of the luckiest people walking the planet to have found myself surrounded by so many wonderful friends in this virtual world we've created. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. My life is richer for having met each and every one of you and I look forward to following your own grows for years to come. :hugs:

A side note about the 5:1 capsules:

An unintended side effect has been a surprising tamping down of my appetite. Yesterday I didn't think to eat until almost 5 PM. It's 7 PM now, and I've had a serving of oatmeal for breakfast and nothing else, because I simply don't think of it until the stomach begins to growl, like right now.

I keep going like this and I may lose that last 40 pounds yet.

Time for another capsule. 9 hours - not bad, and I'm still a little buzzed. :battingeyelashes:

19,000 posts, damn I've been posting what 9 years and bearly hit 4,000. But then I'm a hunt and peck typist and a 100% PC idiot.
Bummer bout the stunted plant, Auto's seen to do that alot. I got one called Sweet Trainwreck out there now that just got over being stuck on stupid afew weeks. Turned into a stretched out plant but I don't have the eletric bill outside or I'd have pulled her long ago. The Girls are starting to fill in nicely Keepem Green

I work on an iPad, typing with two fingers Wood. :laughtwo: I'm just crazy fast and in case you hadn't noticed, I seem to be everywhere. I also bet you're not administering eight threads at a time either. Try that for a while and see how many posts you chalk up.

I'm retired with no one to take care of but myself. I have almost no responsibility other than keeping myself alive, my bills current and being here. There are days when I'm on the iPad for 18 out of 24 hours, at least half of that time right here. This is not my only internet presence, just my most prolific.

I must say im a little confused as to why your hempy is stalling. Maybe give it a little time with the new nutes. My sour diesel took about 10 days to go from how your little one looks to exploding growth although it my girl was started in a cut down gallon jug made into a hempy so the res wasn't too far down. I haven't honestly started a girl in a big hempy so im not sure how long it takes for the roots to hit the res in bigger containers.

If I'd taken the time to notice your technique I'd have saved myself the frustration lexort. I may try that with the next one and then slip it into the deeper pot when it's ready to have more root space. I'm not holding out much hope for her. To have an auto stall this badly for two weeks isn't a good thing. I know from my limited experience that it's a waste of time and effort to keep her going unless she surprises me and starts to run those roots something fierce.
