Squiggle does an experiment thing

Hi folks, before I do a journal entry, I would like to share my little experiment with you all..
Right, where do I start:hmmmm:

The Alcapulco gold and the Northern light were seriously over watered and under fed, they were not happy plants at all.

Normally I don't have any problems with them at this age regarding feeding, as the seedling compost is normally good for 3 or 4 weeks. I could not get my usual brand of soil this time, so this replacement I am using is all new to me..
Anyway, they need fed, but I overwatered them whilst baked as a potato.. I was convincing myself a little drop more won't hurt them, next thing I know they are swimming in their trays.

So,I need a way to get the water out or air into the soil. :hmmmm:I thought about blowing into the soil with a straw but I didnt think it would have been effective. So, after a bong or 3 later, i came up with this idea

Let's use an old extractor fan to suck the water out and draw air in at the same time
Screenshot_20211123-192038_Gallery.jpg

I weighed the pot before I hooked it up to the sucky machine
Screenshot_20211123-192002_Gallery.jpg

And after 5 mins of running the extraction I had this number :cheesygrinsmiley:
Screenshot_20211123-192330_Gallery.jpg

It drew out 5 gram of water or 5ml.:yahoo:

I prodded the soil with a pencil to let air draw through, I just hope I haven't damaged the roots..
I have only experimented on this one, I will leave the Northern light alone and use that as the control.. see which one recovers first..
Anyway, that's it folks, I will be updating my journal later. Thanks for stopping by...

Squiggs...while it works I'm kinda left a bit concerned. Wouldn't the water be passing over part of the motor?

I'm hoping that motor isn't needed anymore :laughtwo:

Glad you saved the plant though :high-five: ! Hehe too bad you couldn't stick the bottom of the pot in a bag of rice (like we do with our phones)

Hmmmmm?? Bag of rice might work
I had the same concerns, I was going to use my Ac infinity and I thought the same thing as you. Motors and electricity don't like water.. luckily this fan is trash, the bearings have gone and it vibrates like the wife's top-drawer toy.. so no harm done..
I just hope I saved the plant, but we shall see :nervous-guy:

Paulie brother, you must be baked like a broccoli all the time  Thought I’m making some stupid ass brainchilds that they actually make sense. Hah.

I bet if you ran the fan with full speed the medium was, meh well…Well aerated

Don’t think there was any harm done and dunno if that had positive effect tho. But IMO they don’t look that bad.. Just a lil droopy. Some starting deficience visible or could be water logged.
I’d just let them sit under the light, lower RH for a bit and place the fan to oscillate air.

They will be fine. I see you got that trigger finger itchy to do something ;)

I did take safety precautions, i clamped it to the wooden stair post, so I wouldn't get a shock, just incase it all went pear shaped

and If this experiment works mate, you could rig up something for your wet vac and suck the living daylights out of your pots  actually, that's got me thinking again

She's definitely not happy mate, she's had the life "sucked " out of her, she looks worse:laugh:
