The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Re: Sleep deprivation...

Gotta stop posting photos like this. It keeps me up all night thinking about different configurations. Right now, I say split the closet into an upper and lower half. Use the lower half for vegging plants to go into the tent, and use the upper half for clones and seedlings. Or split the closet the same and use half for storage of garden equipment - that's what I did with my veg cabinet.

Goodnight and/or good morning!

At this point it's moot for me my friend. Never went to bed. Sitting in McDs wondering why I'm nodding off.

How nice to find this here when I logged on. :battingeyelashes: My plan is a shelf about 2/3 of the way up for vegging plants I don't want under 11/13 from seed. Then the lower becomes veg until flip. CFLs above, T8s below. See? Great minds think alike. :laughtwo:

It's funny, but I was planning on doing all my germinating in the closet, completely forgetting the tiny pots are being raised under 11/13 from seed. Haha! I chalk it up to sleep deprivation. This closet will be my feed for photo flowering plants and storage.

While I'm working on my update let me throw this out there. I think she needs one more day before I drench. What say you all?

I was rereading the early pages of this journal and came across a post by scrubby on his management of the kit drenches. Once again I was struck by his understanding of the kit. If you aren't already following his journal, shame on you. You're missing out on one of the most beautiful HB grows on this site. Scrubby demonstrates a superior command of the kit and is growing plants that make Doc droll.

This post was originally written as a long, packed paragraph, so with scrubby's permission, I reformatted it to open up the information and make it easier to digest. I changed nothing other than the formatting style. Scrubby's words are all intact. This was too valuable a resource to allow it to be lost in the pages. I hope it helps others the way it helped me.

Enjoy. :battingeyelashes:

This is what I do when im feeding my small pots. I go from solo cups to 1 gals to finish (7 or 10) btw.

In solos ill use 1 gallon of water in something smaller than a 5 gal bucket so that when theyre all dunked the feed liquid comes over half way up the cup.

I use the 1.25 mils of drench in said gallon of water and have found that's good for 4 solo cups.

After dunking those 4 ill pour the remaining water down the tops and let em drain for a while.

If youre doing 5 quarts id use the 5 gal bucket, put 2 gallons of water in it and do 2.5 mils of feed. Now that sounds like alot but you gotta take drain into consideration and actually 2.5 mils is miniscule!

I let mine get rootbound in the solos then go to 1 gal plastics. In the 1 gals that's when I go to my .36 mils per gallon.

I have a bin that will hold all 4 1 gallon pots and a tray for the runoff. Ill use 1.5 mils of feed in 2 gallons of water with .5 mils of tea and soak all 4 pots for about 20 mins. Then take the remaining liquid and pour it down the tops of the pots and let it set in the tray, theyll absorb what's left over over night.

My goal is to get that .36 mils of drench into each pot...one way or another!

When I feed my 7s (what I'm using now) ill use 2 or 3 gallons of water...It kinda depends on conditions.

But you want 2.5 mils of drench in the 7s. I usually pour a gallon of straight water in the tray and then a gallon of feed down the top, or 2 gallons if I didnt get around to it for a while (beautiful thing about the kit is that your plants will become very forgiving lol). Anything that comes out the bottom will be absorbed in a short time...like I said earlier :)

Others might do stuff differently but thats what works for me...Check my plants out and theyll tell you the same :)

Scrubby, if you'd like, feel free to post a more recent picture of those happy plants of yours. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks for the re-post, Sue!
Good to know scrubby is running the 1/2 ounce per drench concentration.
I was running 1 ounce per drench, but with Doc's advice, I'm now up to 1.5 ounce and it all goes to just two plants. I may be wasting some product, but no adverse effects.

While she soaks up the rest of her drench, let me get this done.

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 9

The Kit Girls all got their DeStress foliar this morning, just as the birds began their morning song fest. I wonder if they heard? As loud as the birds get, I can't see how they could have missed it. :laughtwo:

One of the advantages of not sleeping is you get to hear the birds wake. A notable disadvantage is utter exhaustion. :laughtwo:

Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia got a 1/4 Transplant/Water drench today. When it's done it goes on the working SWICK to compare to the African Buzz, which won't be on the SWICK. Overnight I'll have it on a spacer, off the perlite, but tomorrow I'll sit it right onto the damp perlite and there she'll stay from this point on.

Into the tent we go.

I'm too tired today to be as loquacious as normal, so this will be kind of short and sweet. Don't get used to it. :laughtwo: I can feel that baked bud I popped over at Canna's edibles thread about 30 minutes ago beginning to take hold. Ahhhhhh. Normal mode. This is why I'm growing now. This is my favorite method of ingestion and it takes a steady supply to do that. I also need to keep the daughter in edibles. She's been suffering nightmares again. We discovered that tiny doses of cannabis banish the nightmares entirely, so yeah, grow already.

Auto Destroyer at Day 55. This soil settled more than I'd anticipated in this pot. I'll have to remember that.

African Buzz at Day 54.

Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia (on the right - the leggy one) Day 53. She took every drop of her drench, thirsty girl.

Cheese Candy at Day 55 and looking ready to pounce, don't you think? She always looks like she wants to jump into my arms.

Environmental readings. The high humidity is a reflection of the tent being open while it was raining.

Planning the next cycle: The Spaces

Inside the tent there will be three stages. Each stage lasts a month. The last stage may run over on occasion.

Stage #1 will be in cups, under CFLs

image28070.jpg

Stage #2 is veg, on the lower shelf under T8s (to be purchased)

image28071.jpg

Stage #3 is the finish run and will be out on the main dance floor under the LEDs, which will be arranged in an arch over the space, Dorm Grow 450 in the center and the two Mars Hydros off to each side, from front of tent to back.

image28072.jpg

The Tiny Closet :yahoo: will be a feeder for the tent. Cups of seeds begin on an upper shelf (yet to be hung).

image28073.jpg

They then veg under T8s in the lower space until such time as they get flipped into the tent.

The plan is fleshed out. I have a few more tiny pots to fabricate and a few more things to pick up from Lowe's today (unless I fall asleep) and some minor details to attend to (I need a shelf mounted), but we're close to being ready to roll. I'm trying my best to keep moving forward but still allow myself to slow down dramatically when grief catches me, which has been diminishing. I was thinking during my walk that this first two weeks was about as long as we'd been apart since we met 35 years ago, and it's the next week or so that it's going to hit home that I won't ever see him again. I'll do my best to be alert for warning signs and be as gentle with myself as I can. August 16 is our anniversary date. I expect that's going to be a bit of a rough patch. I can tell you I'm crying just typing it in, so yeah, gonna be rough.

I can't tell you how thankful I am to have this distraction.

Enough about me. Get out there and spread that joy. You know, this little joyful proclamation I do every day has had a profound effect on my life. I hope it's having the same effect on yours. You really can't lose when you're spreading joy though, can you? :battingeyelashes:

:Namaste:

Sounds like you may need some indica in your life so you can get some sleep, Sue.

And yet, what I'm really craving is that zippy high I get from the Dark Devil Auto. Sleep, once again evades me, though I did lay down and rest. That counts, doesn't it? Eventually I'll run out of steam and sleep the night away. I don't operate any heavy machinery or drive, so I can't hurt myself or others. :laughtwo: This is my first brush with insomnia, but I can determine that it's not true insomnia, just a manic backlash from grieving. Interesting how I know that instinctively.

The tendency of the human body is to heal. I'm as human as they come.

I'm going to fortify with a few fragment hits and catch the next bus to Lowe's to pick up some things.

S-hooks, 23W CFLs, one more reflector, 4 more Y-adaptors, look at wire shelving (looking for 10"),..... That may do it.

Add-on: mini dolly

I also have to say your auto jack x amnesia is looking quite triumphant! Haha I definitely want to replicate that when i try to do 4 plants I one run. Compact, but not to be messed with! :)

I knew who you meant. :laughtwo: For all the abuse she's endured she amazes me with her resiliency. I'm really looking forward to sampling this one. :cheesygrinsmiley:

SUCCESS! :slide:

Thank you Cajun. :battingeyelashes: They were inspired by Graytail's grow. I can only take credit for copying and assembling.

You have a good evening now.
