The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

I have this weird thing going on in that I want to maintain the small pot perpetual under the 11/13 schedule, which runs through three stations, - one month under CFLs, one month under T8s and finish under LEDs. I'm going to try to keep them on the shelves, using the tiny closet to do the first month. I'll also use the tiny closet for the veg stage of anything I'm running under a traditional system that won't see the tent until we hit flip.

The closet will accommodate germinating and early veg for both systems and veg stage for the photo flowering plants that aren't part of the tiny pot grows. I only plan to do two of this at most, one for each 7 gallon. I'm still working out the scheduling for that. I'm still trying to figure out how to grow, for that matter. :laughtwo:

Look at that. I'm expanding again, and in the back of my head is this little voice saying

"Won't we need more lights?"

Hahaha! It never stops. Before you're done there are grow spaces all through your house aren't there? Oh, this is too funny.

So closet for veg, tent for early flower and late flower. - Sounds good.
It looks like tent size for flowering is your limiting factor. - Sounds familiar :)

If I can get the lighting right I think I can get two 7 gal pots and maybe the 15 gallon in that space.

when i went from 1 gallon bags to 5 gallon bags i just said screw it and buried the one gallon inside the five to avoid unwanted stress. after 4 days i already see new roots popping through the sides of the five gallon bags!

you can cut down the 60 days to 21
6 plants all 3 weeks apart need to have similar timelines if using different strains
I veg 3 weeks and try to stay with 9 week bloom times
some strains I use go over but its only like a week, week and a half longer
mostly I go with 9 week blooms but occasionally stick a 10 week one in there
may or may not stick in an 11 week bloom at the max it throws off my schedule

Interesting. How long have you had this schedule running Cronic? I like the brevity.

When do they set pistils in that schedule, Cronic? I run about six plants in bloom, too, but I've been vegging to at least 60 days. From your POTM, it looks like you get pretty good yield with your schedule. Have you ever calculated grams per day? I used to track it for each harvest when I was trying to max out my room, and it ran from 0.3 to 0.8 grams/day, with most harvests in the half gram range. I got about an ounce per sqft in 120 days.

I keep wanting larger plants but I'm probably better off with small ones for my 6 gallon pots. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Ziggy just got a total of 8 ounces from 12 plants on his just-completed cycle. I think that took him somewhere around the 90 day mark too. That's the plan. One month in each of three stations, recognizing that you'll get an occasional straggler.

I'm kinda tickled, because I'll be getting the benefit of the cranked up system Ziggy's playing with, albeit it with fewer plants than Ziggy, mas well as the opportunity to grow some big babies. :slide:

Those pots fit your space, and obviously your personality well, so that's understandable. Don't you watch Duggan in wonder though and think "could I?"

Ok. Here I am at that familiar place, coming up on 4 AM.

Get to bed Girl.

Now.

Good night everyone. :hugs:

My two cents...

Sue,
There are many different grow set-ups out there and I am constantly fiddling with my own tiny grow to make things as efficient as possible. That said, I want to throw a few ideas out there for consideration:

1. Run a 60-day veg and 60-day flower cycle with the closet being for veg/cloning and the tent for flower. If you want a harvest every month, then stagger when you put plants in the flower tent by 30 days.

2. Take the wire rack out of the tent and use the extra space for growing bigger plants and/or more of them. With enough light, nutrients, and proper care, you can conceivably grow a pound every two months in that tent.

3. If you're using CFLs for veg, use the T8 for supplemental side lighting in your tent. Or vice-versa

4. Ditch the autos and stick with photo-flower strains. Heck, all desirable autoflower strains have a photo-flower parent - for example, my Bubblelicious Auto is a regular Bubblelicious bred with a ruderalis strain. To note, ruderalis plants are the runts of the cannabis family. They are shorter, hardier plants that naturally adapted to the harsh climate and shorter growing season of central Russia. Naturally low in THC, ruderalis plants are rarely grown for their psychoactive effects. With that in mind, do you really want those genetics fouling up the more desirable genetics of the photo-flower parent? Sticking with photo-flower plants also allows you to take clones, which saves the money spent on seeds and keeps desirable genetics around.

Here are my Bubblelicious autos that I just harvested. They are a mere fraction of the size of my Papayas which were sprouted on the same day. With luck, I'll get over an ounce from the two of them.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Take them or leave them. For what it's worth, most people leave them.

Happy growing! And Happy 4th of July!

P.S. Don't let me dissuade you from choosing your own path (though I doubt that needs said).

P.P.S. Are you still entering the Dark Devil for July's NOTM?

Good morning MysterySeeds. :passitleft: I just love it when you stop by and offer ideas. You always kick-start some creative stream in my brain. :laughtwo: I hadn't considered entering NOTM until just this moment. I think I may just do that. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Because the tent will always be running on 11/13 everything in there full-time, meaning the tiny pot perpetual cycles, will act like autos. It makes no sense to waste money on autos unless you want a particular strain in that mix of plants and it's only available as an auto. My Dark Devil Auto is one such strain. I will always have one of those in every cycle, and I think I'll explore the many options to raise her - starting under 18/6 and diminishing to end up at 11/13 before introducing her to the tent, in LOS (already successfully tried), in HB Kit soil, and running one in the tiny pot cycles in each of the soil types. I have so many options to choose from it excites me to think of them.

I'm sticking with the shelves and their cycles. They only take up so much space in there and the potential for exploring strains and having variety with expressions I'm not going to get any other way is too much for me to walk away from. I'm fairly certain I will always run those cycles on that rack. I mean really, you've followed Ziggy's grows. How can I pass up a system that appears made for me? Hahaha!

:passitleft:

Incidentally, Ziggy just pulled 8 ounces of unbelievable product from 12 plants harvested from one tray cycle. If I get half that (I'll be running half as many pots per cycle as he does, but mine will have a bit more soil volume), added to what gets harvested every month or so from the big pots and I think I'll be ok in the yield department.

That leaves a significant bit of real estate for big pots. If I wanted I could get three pots in there easily, two 7 gal and a 15 gal would be no problem. Or I could opt one cycle on that side of the tent to do just the 15 gallon with a monster sativa. At some point, after I've improved my skills, I may pull the shelves for a couple cycles and focus on big babies. After all, as pretty as the little ones are, we all know the future POTM won't be a bonsai baby, don't we? :cheesygrinsmiley: That specimen is going to be a monster bush that comes out of nowhere and stuns us all in her exuberant life expression. Sooner or later she'll raise her hand and let us know she's arrived. I know that will happen at some point.

Are you getting a sense of just how excited I am for the potential this set up with the addition of a separate veg closet got here? Ooooooo, a bit more excited than that, I assure you. :slide:

You were a delightful read upon waking. :passitleft:

Morning Bear. I think saying I like this Dark Devil Auto is a serious understatement. :laughtwo: I've been driving everyone crazy talking about it. LOL!

Have a great day Bear. :hugs:

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 8

It's a real low-maintenance day in the tent. The only thing that needed attending to was refilling the reservoir for the no-till. Then it was just enjoy their company and take some glamour shots. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Auto Destroyer sits right inside the door, so let's start there, shall we?

I believe she likes her new root space. She has a lean :hmmmm: , that I don't believe I shall be at all concerned with.

image27970.jpg

She's at Day 53 now looking and smelling fabulous. The smell is such a tease.

image27971.jpg

image27972.jpg

I plopped her PeeJay.

Right behind her Cheese Candy, also 53 days in and looking so relaxed and at home in her lovely sprawling way.

image27974.jpg

image27975.jpg

It's challenging to get an overhead shot of her. Hard to believe how I thought I'd killed her. LOL!

image27980.jpg

African Buzz, at Day 52 and quite frankly, stunning! I can't wait to try this strain again under better conditions.

image27976.jpg

I mean, look at those leaves! :cheesygrinsmiley:

image27979.jpg

Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia, on Day 51. This is another I look forward to trying again. I have it from the breeder of these seeds that he was more than pleased with the end results.

Environmental monitoring looks good. How concerned should I be about a low RH of 39%?

image27986.jpg

One last peek before we go. I took the time to gush over them before closing up. They like the attention. I like getting close enough to catch a whiff from each of them. :laughtwo:

image27987.jpg

Today I'm going to focus on getting the Tiny Closet cleaned out and set up for germinating. WooHoo! I get my closet grow back! :laughtwo: :slide: I've missed the light it offers to the room in the evenings and the easy access for watching them grow. I'll just leave it open like before.

I started putting together the CFLs, and they'll get hung this weekend. I should be ready to drop some seeds by Monday. :yahoo: I need to make my list and decide who gets planted in what. So many options to choose from. Just what I like in life. I feel like a kid in a candy store. :laughtwo:

I actually got 4 hours sleep last night! What bliss! Maybe, just maybe.... Likely not, since going to bed early means I miss out on some of my favorite conversations in real time. I might want to consider an afternoon nap, since I seem hell-bent on becoming a night owl.

I'm feeling kinda lazy today and didn't roll out for my morning walk, so I think I'll make it an afternoon event and stop for dinner on the way back. Oh wait! It's the 4th of July! Shit! I didn't make the pretzel jello salad. I need to get to the store. This is the only time I ever make that indulgent dessert and I can't miss this year. Good thing we eat late. Change of plans then. Everything else is on hold until I get to the store and buy supplies to get this in the fridge.

You all have a delightful celebration today (well, those of you in our happy country). Be safe, and enjoy the fireworks. Cajun, you be careful now. Yesterday was a bit close. :battingeyelashes:

Ok. Gotta run to the store. :hmmmm: Potato salad, hot dogs, buns, jello, strawberries..............

:Namaste:

Some lovely looking girls SweetSue. I wouldn't worry about the RH as my flower room is set to run at 40 RH and my NLxBB Fluxers came out great.

I figured it was close enough to 40% that it shouldn't be a problem. Now, if we were talking 30%.....

I figure a day we celebrate freedom is the perfect day to represent. Have a safe day filled with the joy of friends and family. Love you all.

I read somewhere yesterday that the lower the RH the more frosting you will get but I just can't remember where it was. It was on :420: though. Maybe someone can chime in with the location or facts.
