The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Happy Sunday my sweet.
Congratulations on your nomination for MOTM.
:hugs:  :hugs:

Thank you dear and right back at you. Your nomination doesn't surprise me at all. I'm a glorified cheerleader for joyful living. You other nominees actually know a thing or two about growing cannabis. :battingeyelashes: :hugs:

I'm out shopping with my daughter and haven't even been in the tent yet. Driving me a bit nuts by now, to be honest. LOL! Sooooo addicted to the process. :laughtwo:

This is about the third time I've spotted these and wanted to post about them. Think of how convenient these would be with fabric pots. They're just over a foot square for $15. Pretty sturdy with hinged handles.

I'm grabbing some when my mad money check clears the bank on Tuesday. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I am so high right now. :laughtwo: I really should start eating breakfast with the brownie.

Finally home!!!

Hahaha! The whole time I'm out, enjoying her company, I'm looking at the time! LOL!

Someone wants me to give her that CAT drench. Isn't it sweet of her to stay precisely on schedule? Yeah, I thought so too. :battingeyelashes:

Check out the stacking. :slide:

Ok. Gotta get to work.

Good Morning Everyone

Remember today that we're all allowed to be human. That means when you want to retort the idiotic statement someone just irritated you with I want you to stop and take a pause to remind yourself that not everyone is as evolved as you.

That should make you laugh at the sheer folly that you, yourself, should be the standard by which others get judged. It makes it easier to be forgiving if you remember that you're allowed to be human too, so why not let that irritating snit have his/her momentary mistake. In all likelihood that person is going to beat themselves up harder than you ever could anyway. You deserve to not be irritated. That choice is yours and yours alone.

Geez guys.... I sit down and this stuff pours out on its own. Whoever that was for....and I always know it's for me at some level.... :hugs:

SUE! MoTM!! Lets dance!!:yahoo::party:

You bet!

 :slide: :slide:

Hahaha! That was fun. *giggle*

Those nominations throw me. It's not a title you aspire to, honestly, and to be nominated just sets me back on my heels. To feel the collective love of the community like that ...... I never get used to it. I'm here to do everything I can to help people learn how to grow their own medications and to use those plants to heal themselves and their loved ones. I'm going to do that regardless, hopefully with a growing passion and focus as I grow more familiar with the field. The other nominees are so much more qualified. Just saying.

But having acknowledged that, I'm beyond honored to be considered next to them.

Fun shots guys. Just for you.

Carnival, two completely different views. :laughtwo:

Today she got her first CAT, so This is our starting point. :yahoo:

As I trim I've been simply tossing leaves into the bin and closing it up. Today I'm doing a couple Recharge top dressings and this is what I found when I reached for soil.

Hahaha! I did some back building on the buds. That post will be in a while. I started with Carnival. LOL! Turned out to the buds on her are too dense to trim. Hahaha!

Graytail is probably going to really laugh at that. Doc should laugh at that too. I was NOT expecting it. :laughtwo:

Adventures in Backbuilding Buds

Light Addict has long been a proponent of the technique known as "Backbuilding the Buds". In very basic terms, you wait until the buds are almost to the finish, I shoot for somewhere just before the last few weeks. Wait for the pistils to begin to change before you even consider this. What you're going to attempt to do up is improve the profile of the bud, from one that's more conical, to one that's more barrel shaped. I decided to try it out today with a few specimens.

I started with Carnival, which left me in stitches. Evidentially her buds are too dense for this technique. Yeah, I'm still laughing about that. :laughtwo:

image3454.jpeg

image3455.jpeg

That didn't work quite the way I remembered it working when I used this technique on my first grow. Let me try again.

image3456.jpeg

image3457.jpeg

That left me laughing at the delightful absurdity of even continuing to use this technique on Carnival. Obviously, her buds are fine, thank you very much. I could almost hear her sniff in contempt when I came at her with the scissors. :laughtwo:

Ok, enough playing around with her. I pulled the Afghani out, gave her a light defoliation to open up light access to her lower buds and went to work, snipping off only the tips of each cola.

image3458.jpeg

image3459.jpeg

I got all of her tips done.

image3462.jpeg

Next, I pulled out the Unknown Seed. She's at Day 93 and her buds rose up like a row of little Christmas trees when I laid her branches out horizontally. This makes her a prime candidate to demonstrate the differences in choosing or not choosing this training technique.

image3465.jpeg

image3466.jpeg

I clipped the tops of the center cola and everything to the right of center in this photo. The other branches, oriented to the left here, were left untouched. This will be interesting to watch.

image3468.jpeg

All those little frosty tips got tossed into the corner of my little stash tray to dry out and smoke tomorrow. :blunt:

It's a technique that's proven itself over and over again. Everytime one of us tries it we always want to go and throw our arms around LA for turning us on to it. :laughtwo: I remember being mildly skeptical the first time I tried it on my THC Bomb Auto and being pleasantly surprised with the results. A little time-consuming, but you get nice and close to your charges and have sticky fingers to lick, even if it won't get you high. :laughtwo:

Hi, Sue!

Thank you so much for the clear and illustrated explanation of LA's back building -- +reps for helping me really understand it. I had wanted to try this but thought I had passed the window for it.

Is it worth doing if you just have a week left?

You're really too close to harvest .... But..... Why not pick a bud or two and do it right now. Watch for a week. You may be surprised. You have nothing to lose. The tip you clip is so small it won't set you back at all, regardless.

Yesterday she was 23 grams. Tomorrow 8 grams gets decarbed and baked into the next batch of brownies. I'm really good with her giving me two batches of brownies, even if I have to supplement somewhat to get it up to the 8 grams. I still have a teeny bit of Kalashnikova and another bit of the AJHxAA.

Life is sweet. :green_heart:

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 19, Day 1

Maintenance notes:
- Carnival got her first CAT drench.
- Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia got the Recharge top dressing and a thorough Trans/Tea drench.
- I knocked Original Bubblegum over for the second time in a week, essentially destroying her own Recharge, so I took the time to reapply it today.
- Backbuilding Buds adventures for Carnival, Afghani #2 and the Unknown Seed.
- Mild defoliation on Afghani #2.
- The tiny Dark Devil Auto got a top dressing of more soil and a good layer of some Worm Power vermicompost, watered in with plain water.

I'm pretty sure that's it. Let's see what I haven't shown you yet, shall we? Here, let me take your arm while we stroll. Haven't done that in a while, have I? What an oversight. :battingeyelashes:

Dark Devil Auto (Day 53) She's starting to do something. Who knows what. :laughtwo: She knows I'm easy. Cute little thing though, isn't she? I managed to grow these tiny little bonsai cannabis plants, without even trying. This is what Dale wanted to do if he got home......... Gave me pause when I wrote that.............

One last glance back before I zip it all up. *contented sigh*

That's all I got. :battingeyelashes: I had a great time. You? :hugs: I'm glad you stopped. Don't be a stranger.

I'll be seeing you all around the threads. I have a meditation to transcribe and actually meditate to :laughtwo: and a Callanetics session I've been trying to get to for a couple days, but keep getting sidetracked, so I'll be in and out. The door's always open and the garden's warmth shines out from the pages, so make yourself comfortable.

:Namaste:

Yes...what Sue said there...only do it with a small one though....when practicing that method, you need to give her a few weeks to repair and start using hormones for growth and not just repair work. One week or so is just taking from yield numbers, period.Remember that when doing this , it stresses the plant at a critical time and could cause problems .....alot of stress. hey sue, just droppin by for a late cruise thru!!!....new PC is fast...love it. Have an awesome sleep and cheers eh!:Namaste:

Always nice to see you Duggan. You actually think I sleep? That's so sweet of you. :laughtwo: I run on about four hours a day now.

I'm so glad you got the computer challenge under control. One less stressor for you to deal with. :hugs:

Stem Tea

MagicJim mentioned on his journal that he'd decarbed some stems he had and steeped an herbed tea with a kick. I'm game. I have some stems too that I'd just held onto thinking "someday....." Well, someday just showed up. I brewed the tea about 15 minutes, guzzled it straight down, as is my nature, about 2:17 AM. I felt it smack me in the chest about 2:20, much faster than I'd anticipated. Let's see how it feels by the time I finish this post. I just got the pictures in, so here I go.

2:31 and I finally got the formatting. :laughtwo:

I set the oven to the customary 225 degrees F. Jim used 250, but I've always been partial to 225. I figured I was making tea with this and I intended to use the tea ball, so I chopped the stems up small enough to fit a mess of them inside one.

image3478.jpeg

Tossed them into the oven for 30 minutes.

image3485.jpeg

First off, I'm a fan of herb teas, and I can deal with the taste. I could see how it might be difficult for someone not so conditioned to get this down. I guzzled it. Remember, I don't drink alcohol because I have to drink it straight down and finish it? Yeah, not a good thing with strong drink. Good here, because within minutes the buzz hit and it's been ramping steadily upwards now for a good 20 minutes.

Zipping right along. I do believe I'll try this again in the early afternoon to see how much further it could push the morning buzz. Pretty loaded right now. :laughtwo: Need to stop typing and turn on some music. This was great fun. Now it's time to enjoy it. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Leftovers

I figure there's enough for three to four cups, and I have twice this still to be decarbed. :slide:
