The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

I lived in Phoenix, 52nd Street, for 6 years. I broke my leg on Papago Mtn. across from the baseball fields.
Your gonna love it. The summers are a lil rough, but you drive less than an hour north & it's 20° cooler. Short drives to awesome places like Jerome, Payson, Strawberry, Tortilla Flats...

Crud, y'all got me alil nervous about the winter. I lived in Germany too in the Army, but it's very isolated here. You get in a bind & there better be someone close that knows exactly where you're at. That's what everyone keeps saying here. Then they smile & giggle about the winter.
Thanx for the advice! I'll definitely follow it.

The heat here in the desert SW can be unbearable, but I lived for 20 years at the 4500 ft altitude and although the days in Summer would hover near 100 the nights were much cooler. For the last 15 I have been a desert rat and nights only cool down 5 or 10 degrees...but if you check my journals, growing outdoors is possible, not perfect, but possible.

Defoliation Tactics: The Flowering Phase

Carnival (Day 93)

She's at day 16 of the flip. She started showing pistils immediately, though this is a determination I'm not familiar with still, so if one of you can chime in on what we mean by "pistil set" I'd certainly appreciate it. :battingeyelashes:

Doc recommends you take a moment at about this time to clear out the underbrush again. Anything that's not going to be producing quality buds is really a waste of energy in this highly charged atmosphere we create with the Kit. You're growing spectacular specimens. Give them the chance to be a step beyond that. Clean up the clutter.

image1268.jpeg

You're looking to remove everything that isn't on those top nodes that are going to explode in growth when you free everything up from this energy drain. At next drench she gets her Recharge and the CAT is steadily approaching. So I'm taking off all this stuff.

On the surface, this looks like I'm done, doesn't it? There's that pesky imagination going full tilt again. You don't hear Doc?

"Susan, take a deep breath and get back in there. I want to see soil when I look down from the top. You can do it. "

Thank you Doc, for the inspiration and encouragement. She's happier. She told me so.

What? Yours don't talk to you? Awww, I'm sorry. Hug? :hugs:

My best friend would fall over if I said I was ready to commit to the move. It was our plan for years as Dale spiraled closer to death. With my daughter starting her own life I keep asking myself why I'm still here? If not Phoenix than somewhere. West feels right. I have a month with her. I'm sure it'll be a constant conversation point.

I have no fear of change. I don't know if I fear anything anymore. I survived. I'm gonna thrive. Change is a good thing and a sweet reminder that I'm still alive.

Picture perfect structure gal.
Any chance you could get talked into trying down those lateral branches to where they're almost horizontal?
I can't help but ask. She's perfect for some LST bout now.

I think those branches may be a bit too stiff for that Cajun, though I'll take a look there. Anything to increase yield and possibly speed it along at this point.

However, since I have you nearby, :battingeyelashes: this is my next concern, Jamaican Dream, and only at Day 38. I'm thinking top her today, train her for about a week and then toss her in. She's going to be a good candidate for some healthy LST, because she shows signs of wanting to take right off. :laughtwo:

What do you think Cajun? Am I making any sense here? Does she look as ripe to go to you as she does to me?

I'd say do it.
She'll drop the auxins down lower for awhile & really boom I bet.
If the lats are real stiff, you can gently start slow & gradually bend them harder. Use your thumbnail too to make about 3-4 lil notches on the underside of the branch to bend too. They come back with vengeance shortly.
Keep them horizontal & let the mid branches start shooting off new terminals/bud sites & filling in the space.
Just a suggestion, I couldn't help it. I don't usually give growing advice & you certainly don't need it.

Aww... Thanks Cajun. Will do. I'll take your gardening advice any day. :battingeyelashes:

Tie her down, supercrop her, manipulate her....and then work on your plant:rofl: Here are a couple pics of things I have done previously.

The first attempt at tying down with hemp cord before Buckshot told me to try something different
Clones510.JPG

Tried large gauge electrical wire with weights, it worked very well
Clones610.JPG

Here it is as an adult plant
A_small_strip_tease.JPG

I drilled holes around the top and used the extra large decorative pipe cleaners to tie branches down

Supercropping

I find the last two are the most successful, but haven't tried fluxing yet. That will be one of my winter experiments for sure! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Done and tucked. Later I'll pull out some Velcro straps and get her strapped down some.

How's about a little LST?

She does have beautiful structure, doesn't she? She did that on her own. I can't take credit for great genetics. :laughtwo:

So, how'd I do guys?

It meant things had to open up some in the tent to accommodate the horizontal reiorientation. While I was in there I gave Afghani #2 the same defoliation I'd just done to Carnival.

The White Widow shifted into the back right corner.

image1293.jpeg

This opens up the front corner for the incoming plants. It's going to be a challenge to get lighting up to speed, but I feel confident I can get it worked out.

image1294.jpeg

I reset the timer for a 10/14 schedule.

Tomorrow I'll move everyone but the Jamaican Dream in. I may just strap her down tonight and flip her tomorrow too. We'll just deal with it now. The goal here is to wrap it up by the end of the first week in December, come hell or high water.

I'm going to Phoenix. :yahoo: Oh guys, you have no idea. It's my second family and in many ways closer than my siblings. I need this time with them so badly it's been a physical ache. I feel like I'm breathing easier now. And while I'm there I believe we'll explore a move. I think I may be more small town oriented though. I have few needs and don't mind being snowed in. I'll have to start seriously thinking. And getting rid of all my "stuff". I have this desire to be "stuff-free" for the end of my life. I had an art professor in college that shared with me the story of her first few years of marriage, when they moved frequently and had so little that it fit into a few boxes, but one of those boxes was the makings of a sweet meal sitting, plates, silverware, crystal stemware, cloth and candlesticks. She always had curtains hung and clean bedding by the first night in a new place. It was a simpler life that she had ever-after longed to return to. I have a deeper appreciation for the unburdened life.

Time me to start eliminating.

Sue, what did you do to reset the time to 10/14?

I gave them two extra hours tonight, because I wanted to shift them to a more accommodating time structure. I set this timing up when Dale was dying and it was to accommodate my early hours running out the door and being gone all day. That hasn't applied for over four months now. I realize there's a risk of hermies, but I can watch for that, and at this point it doesn't much matter, does it, since I'm starting from scratch when I get back?

Starting in the morning they'll be set for 8AM on and off at 6PM.

Hehe. I'm here looking at your journal and your over in mine!

We just passed on the Spot too. :laughtwo: I love it when that happens. LOL!
