The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

I feel unease looking at people like UncleCannabis growing amazing plants organically in soil and mostly just adding water. Graytail's plants made me very uneasy too - lost a lot of sleep over them, so I can relate to the call of high Brix. Evolution takes time and let's hope we've got lots of it because I'm sure going to need it to do 10% of the growing stuff that I want to.

I'll take that as a compliment WC but I'm wondering why the feeling of uneasiness my friend.
You're the one doing the cool Myth Busters experiments so I'm probably getting just as many tips from you as you are from me.
Share and share alike pal. :)

Keep it mellow and ditch the uneasiness brother. You're making me feel....uneasy.... LOL!!

A little leaf porn to kick-start the fun.

Do you really have to ask who? :skeptical:

You're welcome.

Hey! I have a question for you guys. Let me go take a couple quick pictures. Oatmeal. I know I had.... There it is. :laughtwo: Be right back.

Sorry, got distracted by training that Unknown plant.

OK. I need input, advice, thoughts, whatever guys. This plant,

Soul Seeds White Widow (Day 27)

image32793.jpg

image32794.jpg

image32795.jpg

has asked me two days in a row now to be planted in this pot:

image32796.jpg

My only hesitation is that she's in bloom.

image32797.jpg

What's the consensus?

Transplant, for sure

Still awake hey Sue? Ha ha. I may crash soon myself as I've got to get up all too soon.
Yeah those plants are intimidatingly amazing. I haven't read through GT's journal enough to know whether I should be intimidated by his growing technique and setup or not. Maybe it's mostly lots of experience, and the magic touch, and the pouch of secret dust?
Anyway... What do you do when people come along and feel intimidated by your knowledge and plants? Tell them not to be, of course- it's more fun that way. It's the fact that I have not enough time to do it all that intimidates me. So I'm just trying to enjoy what I'm doing in the meantime. I've learned more since joining 420 than I did in the years previous -so I look at 420 as a cannabis growing escalator/time machine of sorts.
No time machine to give me more sleep so I'd better grab a couple hours. Goodnight Sue ❤️

When I reread this right now I laughed out loud, because you're right! Hahaha! "..., and the pouch of secret dust. " EXACTLY!

Graytail believes he champions the easiest, most cost effective method to consistently harvest the best damn cannabis you could dream of growing in your hobby gardens. The longer I work with Doc's Kit the more I see the wisdom of his convictions. I've pretty much decided I prefer LOS, but do not lose sight of the fact that I'm growing some of the most incredible plants with this Kit and having a blast with it.

I'm an LOS cultivator. A champion of no-till hands-off cultivation. Those of you closest to me knew from the beginning I'd make the shift back. It was only a matter of time.

Fun ride though, huh? Poor Doc. I know I gave him fits. :battingeyelashes:  What a tolerant man. :laughtwo:

I have an update to do. Coffee.... Ahhhh ..... Life is sweet guys. :ciao:

Drop it on in there, Sue. You are comfortable and adept at transplanting now. It won't skip a beat.

Transplant, for sure

Thanks for jumping in so quickly guys. You should have heard her complain when I dropped her back under the T8s. LOL!

Re: upcanning ... what they said ^ :cheesygrinsmiley: The plant will love it. :thumb:

Just last night I was thinking about how long it takes to become an accomplished cannabis cultivator. Each new method or technique takes several months to test out. Change media or nutrient regimen, and you have to start the whole testing/tweaking process all over again. Heck, an insect's lifespan is days - plants are months! I currently get 2.5 harvests per year. Five generations takes 2 years!

I still can't even tell what deficiency a plant has. That would take years of experimenting to learn. At a max of 3 harvests a year, it takes forever to learn what works and what doesn't.

Of course, having a much larger grow would really help with that ... more plants to play with ...
I need me a barn somewhere ... :laughtwo:

How spot on can one man get Gray? You're absolutely correct.

I'll try to keep the uneasiness under control, UncleC, and yes that was a compliment. Have you checked out Graytail's plants though?

I've never been one to get very systematic in my approach- never had internet or much outside growing info till recently- and seem to have been constantly trying to reinvent the wheel. Take my word for it, those oval/dodecahedral/square/triangular wheels- they all make for a very very bumpy ride. Can't even sell the things off cheap either, everybody always wants to make their own...

FWIW, I'm on the up-canning bandwagon as well. When done correctly, the plants barely notice. Then they show you their appreciation in a big way.

You are preaching to the choir, Gray. So much to learn and it seems to come at a snail's pace. I want to be a better veggie gardener, too. Basil did great. Potatoes, not so much. Tomatillos were a disaster. Every plant has its own demands to really thrive. Add in all the potential pests. diseases and weather, it's a miracle we don't all starve to death. I know we would if I was feeding us from our garden.

Heard and acted upon. :battingeyelashes: Thank you for the input and the lovely discussion that ensued.

So much exciting stuff going on in the grow today, I'm a little giddy, to be honest. Could have been that brownie I had for breakfast. :hmmm: For whatever reason I've been on a happy cloud all day, and the work was so much fun guys! LOL! I'm so much more relaxed today it's surprised me. :laughtwo:

So much went on that it can't be contained in one post, so today I'm changing gears and posting as I go, in smaller (yeah right Susan!) chunks. That way I get breaks and get to play in the threads again. :yahoo:

Before I go to get something to eat (WHAT! It's 4:06!!!) let me share one more.

Strawberry Blue (Day 54), after her spa treatment today. I think I figured out how to get LOS tiny pots to thrive. :slide:

UncleCannabis, your girls're going to be sooo pissed when they hear about what they're missing out on. :laughtwo:

Inside my head is this little girl jumping up and down and yelling "Go for the barn Graytail!! Go for the barn!!!" Hahaha!!

Getting ready to top them. Looking for the right spot.

Carnival (Day 64) stands about 12" now, but hasn't made that upwards bolt to open up yet.

image32803.jpg

I can see that point with Afghani #2, on the top here, although it still needs just a tad more height. Not much more at all, it stands about 13" right now, so just on the edge. I studied lembatoast's tutorial yesterday and the node spacing where I plan to top is perfect - nice and close. I really hope this one turns out to be a female.

image32804.jpg

Afghani #3, at just under 12", still has time to go.

An overhead shot. Pretty, aren't they? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Pipe Cleaner Training

I got a little carried away today, going from utilitarian to organic. LOL! Had lots of fun though, and isn't that what this is all about? :cheesygrinsmiley:

I started with b o r i n g!!!

image32806.jpg

Then I got a little more playful. :laughtwo: All I'm looking to do here is give the lower branches a little assistance. No great expectations, just having fun, really. I was looking for hanging points that wouldn't stress the tip and that turned out to be a node or two back. The stem needed support too, once I got the weights all distributed.

image32807.jpg

Back under the lights for a few hours.

image32808.jpg

When I thought of it I went and took all the weights off.

image32809.jpg

Whatever the sex, it's about to bloom.

image32810.jpg

image32811.jpg

I'll just continue playing with it like this until I decide not to anymore. :battingeyelashes:

Transplanting: Soul Seeds White Widow into LOS No-Till

This was the first time, really, that this soil community has been cut into. I didn't hesitate at all. The soil is unbelievably rich and friable! Incredibly rich in life. There're little things crawling all through this pot! :woohoo:

Supplies and removed soil.

image32812.jpg

Dig a big enough hole.

image32813.jpg

Drop some mycorrhizal innoculant in the bottom and sprinkle Roots! All over the inside.

image32814.jpg

Unpot the plant. Definitely a good idea Susan. This one didn't want a stunted life. Hey! I have just the right tool for this!!

image32815.jpg

I whipped out Dale's bonsai tool kit and sliced the root-bound bottom right off.

image32816.jpg

All the excess soil got sifted in around the edges. The mulch needs replenished.

image32817.jpg

WORM!!! :slide:

image32818.jpg

I dug out my bag of mulch. This stuff has aged beautifully.

image32819.jpg

All settled into her new home.

image32820.jpg

Next up - the LOS drench of the day. Are we having fun yet? :cheesygrinsmiley:

You go girl!
