The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Right on, Sister! Congrats on the Callanetics. Mind, body and soul. Still do PT too, and it really helps my attitude. I much prefer being capable.

Keep seeing "shadow" comments popping up here and there. Makes me laugh. Don't know much about Confucius, but he was spot on w/that advice, wasn't he?

I'm very excited about this perpetual. Do you have a notebook for keeping notes? While the grow skills should be identical, the organizational skills will be different. Good luck w/the new wrinkles. Should be a fun menatal challenge.
Stay cool

Hey there Sue do you have cover crops growing in your containers?

Welcome to the journal SeedLab. Because the LOS pots on the SWICK tray hold less than 4 cups of soil each I decided to forgo a living mulch in their case, hence the finely-chopped straw used as mulch. The larger LOS pots obviously have a living mulch. The HB kit soil pots are grown without a cover crop. Someday in the future I'm planning to try some living mulch on both types of soil in small pots, but this tray I just wanted to follow as is and lay in a base line.

Do me a favor Ranger and ask me that every day until I post the photo of said notebook, which I know I need to begin ASAP but have not done as of yet.

And thanks. I've actually grown younger in appearance and vigor over the past two years. It's like being reborn in a way. Two years ago I looked like the average dumpy grandma. Today, if I may say so myself, I fit that trophy wife description. Haha! Discipline and consistency., fueled by desire. That's all it took.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 55

Let's start off with a check in on the seeds and seedlings.

All the HB kit babies are ready and willing. The Bag seed one to the left, behind the Auto Destroyer, is a lanky one for sure. The LOS are still working on waking up. No rush here, but let's go little ones!

image25282.jpg

Should I put more soil into that bag seed pot? Anybody have the answer to that one?

Cheese Candy is looking very strong today. I was a bit rushed this morning and only got this passing shot.

image25283.jpg

One thing immediately obvious to me is how leggy the HB kit seeds are as opposed to what I'm used to with LOS. There's a significant difference. Hmmmmm.

The Devil, looking finer by the day.

More evidence of pistil color change. Look at all that frostiness. Yeah. :slide:

Time to close it up. Can't wait to get that ventilation/filtration installed. Patience Girl.

That's all I have today. Really. :laughtwo: You guys are so indulgent of me.

This splitting my life between the nursing home and home is making me a bit crazy. It's seriously compromised my available time in the tent, and. I haven't completely accepted that I may only have about 20-30 minutes a day to get in there. I miss being able to just watch them grow. As I go along and get things dialed in it should be easier to accomplish gardening time. Right now the arrangement in this tent isn't the best, but that's all fluid anyway and can be shifted at any time.

I'm thinking a shelf with some CFLs for this SWICK might not be a bad idea. When the pension check hits the bank I may tend to that instead of waiting.

Have a wonderful day everyone. That joy you can feel bubbling up needs to be spread around to keep it bubbling. Do your best, OK? I'm counting on you.:love:

:Namaste:

Sue - keep bringing me joy and I will pass it along. :yahoo:

Such frostiness! Here's hoping you get the medicine you need for Dale. Have you tried Golden Goat yet?

:circle-of-love:

No I haven't Tranquilgreen. I'll have to look into it. What's the major draw?

Thanks for the welcome, I am considering keeping some containers growing grasses or something to keep the fungus network alive.

Cool I am considering Docs HB as well.

Nice journal thanks for the welcome :)

Good Vibes!!

Sue-
For the HB seedlings being tall, in my limited experience, it all comes down to the genetics and lighting. If they get spindly, it is probably because the light is too far away/not strong enough.
I worry about adding soil when they are very little. I've seen it cause damping off. If it is used only as a support and kept fairly dry, it might be OK. Others with more experience can correct me.

Thanks Major. This was my main reason for considering a CFL array for this tray now. I also seem to remember seeing someone add more soil to a lanky gal.

We have a major concern brewing here with Dale's remaining leg. Numerous wounds opening, signs of early infection in at least one, serious spreading of the original ulcer through a secondary site. (Sigh) He sees Vascular tomorrow. Got a bad feeling about this. It's not unexpected. We've been watching it deteriorate for some time now, but I'm feeling like we better brace ourselves.

As far as the seeds go lower your lights and I would add a plant marker so it doesn't fall over the stem will thicken up in a week or so and will not fall over. I just had the same issue with my seedling the look to be about two weeks ahead of yours. And as far as dales leg goes I work in surgery and work on people with similar issues every week. Try the best you can to follow orders and going to wind deters every week for debreadments can make a big difference. And a wound vac can help also just have to keep everything as clean as possible. My heart goes out to you as these things are hard to deal with

I jumped back and looked at it and remembered I have a CFL set hanging right above there but not plugged in. Duh! Another blonde moment! :battingeyelashes: I must be tired or distracted. Oh yeah - both!! :laughtwo: I'll drop that down in the morning.

Now, let me work out documentation.

Golden Goat is great for depression and surgery pain. A little higher CBD than most so it is smooth to smoke. Great mood lifter. :tokin::green_heart::tokin:

Well, it should certainly be one for a future grow. One of the beauties of what I'm attempting here is the ability to sample a wide variety of strains. This way we cut down on the time it takes to find the strains that we think work best. I want to get my family switched over to edibles for most of their consumption. The daughter doesn't smoke at all, and with Dale's health challenges he probably shouldn't be smoking either, although that's a battle I won't even attempt. I don't think I'll be able to modify a habit he's indulged in for almost 50 years.

Sue, i just buried my stems on my 4 replacement pots for my SWICK #2..they will root along the stem from being covered. :)

Thanks Ziggy. Do you add any more Roots! to the extra soil, or just plain soil? I would think a spot of Roots! would enhance the process. As lanky as that seedling is, it also has leaves that are almost twice the size of any other seedlings up. This could be one I'll have to train to keep under control. This was very decent bag seed, from some of the best we purchased over the past two years. It was so superior that I immediately isolated those seeds from the rest. I can't wait to see what the two soils do with it, because all you HB guys know they'll taste different.

Don't you love the mystery Ziggy? :slide:

exactly the reason I'm doing what I'm doing...harvest mulitple strains in about 12 weeks. get 3 SWICKs going (vertical, like my grow in same tent..you can harvest every 4-5 weeks. Some of my plants are 12" some are 24-28" in a SWICK containing 12 plants :)

awesomness in the making :)
weeks.
:)
