The Hexapus's Garden

Got distracted by life again... I meant to say- yes I do like foreign photos- from exotic New Orleans no less. Always welcome.
I'll check on the perlite clone victims in a day or two. Transplanting them by floating them out seems a little awkward- though I guess you get used to it, like anything. Couldn't I just let them get rootbound and slide them out of the cup in a clump like I do with soilless?

Sure you can!

Yup... but I don't usually do it. I'm not usually wanting to hold clones, so this issue never really presents itself in my little world. Sure would make transplanting easier... perhaps I need to let them go a bit longer in the small cups. I've been avoiding the small cups and going directly to the larger pot as a general rule, tho I do have 2 in small cups at the moment.

Transplanting hempies has always bad my curiosity. Thanks for the conversation friends. Cheers

Ya know... it's a touch tricky transplanting a hempy girl.
You can go with the whole pot transplant method but the medium really doesn't lend itself to this technique unless you can remove the small pot while in place. This often just falls to pieces and ends up with just roots.

Bare root transplant is where you might end up anyway, so I generally shoot for this method from the start. Of course, you have no real need for actual bare roots, so you drag along any medium that hangs on.
I try to float the plant out of the pot by applying gratuitous amounts of water from a garden hose. Lots of the medium will float out, so plan for plenty of spillage. I jiggle and pull ever so gently at the base of the plant as I run the water thru using it to loosen areas that are holding on. After I get it in it's new home, I give it a good flush with whatever nute mix I want pushing out the hose water and replacing it with a good mix.

When I transplanted my 4-month-old juvenile clones out of their half-gallon-sized pots, I simply dumped them out onto a newspaper, while squeezing the container they were in and slapping the bottom to force the rootball down. One can always cut away the intermediate pot, if it is a recycled plastic juice or water container.

I was converting them from soil to perlite, so I gently swished the roots in a bucket of water and let the roots untangle themselves out to their full length. I was surprised at how long they were, once untangled. It did not take them long to reach the reservoir once transplanted into the hempy.

Rather than try to make a hole deep enough in the damp perlite, I added the perlite while holding the transplant at the height I wanted it. This allowed me to get those roots all the way down.

Cannibus roots are surprisingly durable, and with care, you can do some difficult transplants with almost mature plants. The trick is to use plenty of water to wash out old medium and untangle the root mass.

Just dropping in to say hello and pass over some  What I thought was a faulty graphics card on my machine turned out to be my motherboard so I had to build a new machine and I can't really write up more than a few sentences on my phone as the way my mind forgets everything (even mid sentence sometimes lol) I find it easy to lose track when using mobile. Anyway I'm back up and running and I have some clones planted directly into soil by scoring the bottom part of the cutting and using rooting powder, they seem to have both taken well and are growing. More on that another time though as I have a lot of catching up to do, plus as this is my first night back on my machine I need to test it with No Man's Sky, plenty of beer, plenty of smoke and plenty of relaxation :)

I'll catch up again later/tomorrow and maybe even rekindle the sleep body clock theories as all my family are exactly the same, my parents, myself and my children are all night owls for some reason. I hope everything is rosy where you all are, peace and love aplenty :thumb:

Hey weaseley, bummed out about the hip

, thats all

hey Weasel :passitleft: hope suns shining mate...

Hey Pigeons. Yeah I'm good. A few ups and downs but thankfully the ups this week managed to balance out some unlucky downs I had the two weeks before that. Life has just been nonstop busy here for me. Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to give the grow some badly needed attention and post some badly needed updates - Seems like all year I've been holding out hope for 'tomorrow will be less busy', but tomorrow never comes around here.
The grow has been suffering from neglect as usual, but still growing. Always going to be a crapshoot when I'm not there and always in a rush. I see last week's problem, make some guesses, cross my fingers and improvise some sort of damage control, then come back in a week to see what happened. Repeat.
I've been doing that for a few years now. Amazing I get away with as much as I do really.

Sounds like my grows, only I don't go away for weeks at a time. :laughtwo: The garden still gives what you need from it.

Lol! Yeah I can't confirm that it would be better if I was there all the time. Maybe worse.
As an example of the situation- This last couple visits I found a brand new problem. (Yay). The ph in my hexapus reservoir kept drastically dropping. I would return to find it as low as 4. Plants suffering accordingly. I ph up as high as 6 to compensate- return next week to find the same thing again. Last visit after a few minutes with Google I threw a couple bubblers in there. Ph seemed to be rising after that. What will the next visit bring? Ph up at 8? Down to 4? Holding steady and everything good? I have no idea.
I really have to harvest that little Mama Thai/Thai Stick plant too. Looking forward to smoking it, as well.

could try lazy gardening 101 mate lol

I was rushing around there mate as I didn't have much time I felt like it was all a bit hack and slash lol. I'm back at work tonight but once I'm done I better try and sort the poor girl out a bit :thumb:

I chopped the little Mama Thai/Stick plant, at 88 days. I could have harvested her quite a while ago- except I couldn't, because I was too busy. This one was always a stringy fluffy sort of girl, but also started growing a bunch of foxtails in the last couple weeks. These type of greenish foxtails to me are a sign that a sativa is more than done. For fun I also went and checked the resin glands - they are pretty much all cloudy.
She is definitely more stringy than the Mama Thai. MT makes fluffy buds, but they hold together as individual buds and aren't so much just a collection of foxtails like the ones on this plant.
She's also smellier than Mama Thai I think- the same sort of spicy fresh green hay smell - but stronger. Fairly well seeded, from her own CS induced hermies (I think).
Good night friends.
❤️ Zzzzt. Sizzle zz sst. :lot-o-toke:
