The Deep Water Culture Home

I did the same thing as Guido minus the blue packs. Recently I ran some ducting from a nearby vent into the grow room aimed at the res and that solved my summer heat problem. Res stays 65-68.

Maybe if you just cool the water you put in your underbed box and/or maybe even put some blue packs in the UB box so you don't have to check quite as often. Summer grows are tough on res temps. Leads to HVAC work.

I have a question concerning cloners. Yeaterday a got a wild hair acroos ny ass and decided to try and make a cloner with materials at hand. I used a 20 oz. travel mug (plastice) with a lid, i mader 3 smallsholes in the lid, filled the mug with ph water and root 66, took 3 clones from my WW fems in flower (day 21), added cloning gel and dropped a airline with a small round air stone, one that I had been using to keep bait fish alive. The bubbles coming up is termendous. I put in the 3 clones, after 2 hours they started to droop (especially the smallest one), today after approx. 24 hours all 3 plants are back to standing up. Are my principles sound, or do you think it would not work. I cann't see spending a couple of hundred on buying one. Here are pictures. What do you all think?

Hey Burple,
I was having the same problems. This is what I do and it is very efficient.
I make an extra 2 gallons of nutes and keep them in the refrigerator. When the lights come on I drain 23 gallons from the res. replace with the chilled 2 gallons, I also add 3 of the blue ice packs, I have 9 in the freezer. Mid way thru the day I repeat the drain and replenish and replace the ice packs. Repeat just before lights go out. My res temps stay between 60 to 70. the ice packs have not harmed my roots in any way. Hope this helps. It is kind of a pain in the ass, but it gives me extra opportunities to check out my roots, they get 3 5 minute or so air bathes and seem to like it. I will probably get a water chiller in the next coule of weeks and then that problem is solved.
:reading420magazine:

Now this is a good idea Guido! Why didn't I think of that? :loopy:
Only problem with this is there is no space in my fridge! :laughtwo:
I'm going to go make a couple of gallons now! :thanks:

I've been using the small blue hard plastic ice packs in the underbed box leaning against the res because I'm afraid to damage the roots by putting them inside - I'll have to try inside, but don't they float?
I've only been putting the ice packs in the underbed box cause if put water then I have to lift the res out of it to drain it to put new water in, although I may use the drill pump to do it if nothing else works.

There is an a/c vent in the ceiling of the room about 5 feet from the tent, but it doesn't seem to be helping much.
I'm thinking about running a flex line from the vent to the tent with an inline fan and seeing if that helps keep the temps down since I'm afraid to see what the temps will be when I have to close the flaps! :yikes:

Well, I'll keep ya'll updated! :thanks:

Anything that works! I made an aeroponic set up. Put my first clone in today.

The blue ice packs do float, but that just helps keep the water uniformely cool. I think that the ice packs would do more good inside the res than outside. The way you have it set up seems to be very innefficient to me. First you have to cool the containner and then the container cools the water, too much of the cool water is wasted on cooling to many layers. Also the root balls will help keep the ice packs in place. I notice very small peices of root tips in the res from time to time but my plants have truley benefitted. I wish I could take the credit for this method but as everything else I have learned it came from this site and bubblers that have had the same difficulties and have been generous to enough to spread the wealth of knowledge.
As an aside just because I do not display the Deep Water Culture logo, doesn't mean that I am not willing to pass on advice that I have been givin and things that I have learned thrugh my own trial and errors. I have just ran into some negative comments and a lack of willingness from other growers because I was displaying the logo. I mean no disrespect to any one displaying this Logo, I just want to get as much knowledge from all experienced growers no matter what they coose to grow in MJ is MJ and the part of the plant that is above ground/water/bubbles is all the same.
Peace and Love :peace:

The way that I do it, I take the lid off of my res., this gives me a opportunity to check out the roots, rotate my lid (so the plants get different lighting), this also gives a short airbath. I put my gallon jug inside the res. to fill., before I take any water from the res. I make sure and replenish the res to the proper level. I hope this helps. If you would like to see photos or a vid or how I do it and I will make it happen.

Good Morning Deep Water Culture
ive been whining a bit lately about my PH and sloooooowwwwww bud development. I replaced pumps and airstones in the tank...too much material to get um out of the chamber so cleaning the tank and walls...well...not...until this grow is over. I flushed with PH 4.5 plain water twice and added a peroxide treatment for two days. Last night we drained the peroxide treated water, flushed twice with 4.5 plain water...and added the weekly nutes. I started down at 4.5 and this morning I have 6.6.
PPM into the tank w/ nutes & drops 4500 PPM /this morning 600

they seem to b eating and heres the am shots

Guido, I have found that helpers are just helpers and they do it because it's the right thing to do. Passing it along is not just for BH's. We are just encouraging good behavior and want what we do to represent the helpers of all kinds as they would want to be represented. Drama is for punks and the insecure and fearful.

4.5 and 4500 ppm??? Something was off but I haven't a clue what it might have been. Glad to see the girls liked it though!

no kidding. figured you would see some serious nute burn at 4500 ppm. lol but they do look pretty. :)

That Cloner looks coool Guido.
Is it working? you starting to see roots come out????

Here is yet another way to cool a bubble rez by using an auxillary rez.
This one is very inexpensive and doubles your growing rez capacity. It uses the ice bottle method without the bottles being in the growing rez which reduces volume and shocks the roots.

Use another rez that can run as deep as your growing rez with a little extra room at the top for circulating column clearance and a lid.

For the auxillary rez you make an air powered circulator made from a waterfarm plumbing kit which retails for $15. Or you can buy a circulating kit made by GH for about $60.

Connect the reservoirs together using 1/2" fittings and tubing. Two lines must be installed. A feed and a return line

Connect the circulating column to one of the fittings inside the auxillary rez that connects to the growing rez.

Fill the two reservoirs to capacity.

Load up the auxillary rez with frozen ice bottles.

Plug in the air pump to power the circulating column and there you have it! The circulator will move warm solution into the iced solution and back again, cooling the rez.

The diy circulating column should look like this when complete

Mounted in the auxillary rez it should look like this but instead of seeing a float valve you would see floating ice bottles. This circulator will move one gallon of water every five minutes.

Right now I don't have any serious roots, let alone a ball (I just got my first 3 point leaf), so I don't really want to put anything in the res for now.
Once my babies get bigger and stronger, I will probably be more willing, but for now (and maybe later too), I'll just do the chilled water routine. :thanks:

As far as the BH logo, if someone judges you over the method you use to grow, then I wouldn't really respect their opinion much anyway.
If someone wants to help, they shouldn't really care how you grow or even what you grow, otherwise what's the point of "helping"?

The way that I do it, I take the lid off of my res., this gives me a opportunity to check out the roots, rotate my lid (so the plants get different lighting), this also gives a short airbath. :headbanger::nomo:

I appreciate the offer, but I think I (pretty much) understand what you mean! :goof:
The only place you lost me was on putting the gallon jug in the res? Why would you put the jug in the res? :hmmmm:
I put lines on the inside of my res so I know that if I'm short water, and about how much it is short.
That way too, if I drain off 2 gallons to replace it with 2 gallons of cold water, I know I just have to run the pump until I hit the 4 gallon line, and then add the cold water until it reaches the 6 gallon line.
I actually thought of that on my own! :yahoo:

I didn't even hurt my wittle brain! I'm so proud of me!

That's pretty cool OB!
Right now though, I'm pretty broke and chilling the water in the fridge looks to be the way to go.
After all, my fridge is already running (I gotta go catch it!).

This ought to have a thread of its own.

Awesome DIY. I truly admire you and your contributions.

MC started this thread 7 months ago, Dec 22nd. So after 7 months were just over 14000 posts, that's 2000 per month, or approx 67 per day, or approx 3 per hour.

I'd say the Deep Water Culture are doing a lot of good out there in the cannabis community.
+reps to everyone I can on the last couple of pages! :thumb:

I can't speak for any one else, but I think you guys are great. Every one of you share a ton of knowledge and experience, whats to hate? :peace:

Wow, I was gone for a day and a half and my name was changed and I missed 7 pages!!! Finally got caught up!!

Answer I read up on that stuff and it seems dangerous. I am not going to take anything that can cause me more issues. I never get sick this is very strange for me. I usually get one sinus infection a year and it goes away within a month when the weather changes. I am not sure about where I live now since I am new here. It could be allergies keeping my sinuses bad and since no real weather change it is perpetual. I will talk to the doctor about it since I won't live with sinus infections.

Somehow I knew you would say that!! Unfortunately, like all NATURAL medicines, big pharma has run a heavy smear campaign against such supplements, like colloidal silver. In reality, when taken in small doses(1 tsp. daily), it has zero side effects. The antibiotics your doctor is going to prescribe you however..........

Got an opinion?

The USA (Hillary and Obama) are giving 7.5 Billion dollars to Pakistan???

I think you know my opinion!!

That's true alien8, but the other part of the problem IS the pres.

That's right!! The puppet must let the puppet master work the strings!!

Hiya Deep Water Culture, hope everyone is in one piece tonight. I thought I would post a progress pic of my current grow to peak some interest and whet some appetites. They will be one week in to flower tomorrow morning.

The newest additions to God's little Garden, Afghan Kush, White Widow, Hash Passion and Bubblelicious.
Have a great evening everyone, tomorrow I have some transplanting to do so I need to get my beauty sleep. I hate it when the ladies look at me like I was something the cat just dragged in, after all, they look so beautiful every morning.:smokin:

Wow, beautiful!! God has definitely blessed your "little" garden!!

Heres a photo of an outdoor 2 wks ago. It has grown significantly since. This is one plant started (seed germinated) indoors on approx. Tax Day April 15 2010. It was transplanted outdoors (in the ground) on May 3, 2010. This photo was taken on July 19.

Phenomenal bush you have there my friend and you won't here me say that often!!:)

just a little bud porn for ya, you guys please go to my grow and let me know how much longer you think until harvest:peace:
