RPsmoke. Took your advice and snipped a tiny bit of leaf near the top of the bud. Microscope works great. I can see the trichs perfectly. They are clear and nicely formed. Looks just like the pictures. I was only using the 4/23 date as a yardstick to know when to become more prudent in my monitoring of progress. Can you give any advice on the time frame between the time healthy looking clear trichs sppear and coloration begins in earnest?

Rose, sorry to hear about the shingles. The wife had those about a year ago. She's was already on pain meds and they added those analgesic pads like Icy Hot to help a little. The one's she used were hospital provided.

Thank you, MC. They told me to use Aspercream and gave me two pain killers and some anti-viral med. I bought a new lawn mower and took it off the truck by myself and strained my back, and was hurting bad for two days with a strained back. THen my wife found the red spots on my back and hip, and touched one and I almost jumped off the bed. Felt like a blow torch hit me....and off to the the emergenccy room I went,.

Damn it rose sounds like your hurtin pretty bad hope you get to feelin better sorry theres nothin i can do for you brother since you have done so much for me and everyone else in here. GET BETTER AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOU MY FRIEND.

Good deal BOOT! Glad you had success. Seems the scope just isn't for everyone. But happy it works for you!

I was just throwing that out that. 4/23 as a yardstick would be perfect. Some people I see posting, get real caught up with the breeders harvest time. If it says 9 weeks then they harvest is nine weeks, regardless. Just didn't want that to happen to you!

My romulan... I had predicted early on I would harvest around 4/20. Well... they went a little sooner, and I already have them in jars curing. Someone else here I think, had some plants finish super fast. It can happen.

Sorry... rambling :smokin:

Generally... once the trichomes start to turn cloudy... I see about a 5-10 day window until they go amber. I normally aim for a 50/50 split. It's far from exact, but it gets you there!

When I first tried harvesting by trichome color... I had multiple plants. One early one... cloudy trichomes. One middle of the road. And one towards the end...

That lets you feel for yourself!

Same thing happened with my wife. Not a lawnmower, just some dishes and stuff out of the pantry. Lifted it, felt the pain and dropped my cornflakes! Thought she had pulled a ribcase muscle. Used a heating pad and that was when the blisters showed.

Aspercream does the same thing as those patches. Get well soon, my friend!

Yeah stress can always affect a lot of things sleep, acne, eating habbits, relationships, sicknesses, pain and much much more im just glad to hear you gettin the rest you need. I havent heard of that but that sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Hey Rose sorry to hear about your shingles. It is amazing what stress and pain can cause. Is this your first bought with Shingles? I certainly hope it is your last. Take care brother. :peace:

As you said earlier the plants trich mature top down. Checking the trichs at the top I would assume you would recommend a slightly more than 50%/50% cloudy amber to assure sufficient trch coloration throught the rest of the plant? I know I read in another thread or somewhere else in this one that harvesting the individual plant in stages was not recommended.

Personally my main focus is those top big ole colas. Those are what I focus mostly on. And some of the larger flowers forming farther down. I do not pay much attention to the tiny pop-corn or "under-bud" growth. These mostly get used as hash anyway. And by the time you are seeing a 50/50 on the top, chances are, trichomes are at least cloudy on most of the plant.

Some do a partial harvest. Personally I am not a fan. Harvest it all so you can get started on your next crop. Once you start being able to clone, you want to start the next round even sooner!

Roseman! Just wanted to say sorry to hear about any pain giving you trouble. Noo good. I'll medicate enough for the both of us!

Hope you had a good weekend and a great holiday my friend!

Like RP said the # of weeks the strain guide tells you will get you close...but with my plant it said 7-9 weeks and it was 10.5weeks before I even saw cloudy, about 11 weeks at harvest. But still makes for a good reference!

Rather than being thwarted by impedements, experiencing failures and wondering why. I have been given a map to success. Confidence grows where the Deep Water Culture go and nobody knows like me!

Friend, you and WowTestDrive did your pre-grow study and you did your homework and you arae succeeding in avoiding many bumps in the road.

I watch new and first time growers come and go on these sites. A few fail entirely, maybe one out of 20, and blame the nutes or the system or the water, when the major problem all along was they failed to prepare and study "how to" BEFORE they got started.
I am always surprised at how many newbies will invest their money, get a tank, start the seeds and then ask "when do I feed them?" OR "how much do I feed them?" or "what temperature do I keep my room, or water?" which tells me they did not buy a book or read up on all the info oprovided on the grow sites. I have seen many growers start seeds and not even own a themometer or a pH test strip, or pH controling chemicals.

You did a great job of being prepared and you are getting great results.

My dad told me a million times

IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN, THEN PLAN TO FAIL!

I salute you, bro. :goodjob:

Honored to be included here!

Its so true tho, Its helps that I was addicted to this hobby before I even touched a seed!!!

Mule you have had GREAT progress myfriend, I also am impressed

Congratulations, Mule!

I am home today on 2 pain meds, a muscle relaxer and something to treat SHINGLES. I've seen the word SHINGLES and heard of it as a skin rash. It is much much more and very very painful. And definitely something you don't want!

I hope you heal soon, those shingles can be very painful.

First time for me. I spent a long time at WEB-MD today and it says it is hereitary. My dad had shingles and I never uderstood the pain that he endured. I only thought they itched. They HURT bad.

Shingles lay dormant in the spine and nervous system, from having chicken pox. STRESS and worry brings them out.

I thought I only had a strained back muscle, until my wife found the bumps and touched one of them. GOOD GRIEF!
