i really need to stop smoking before I go to sleep at nite. I smoked one, then forgot to unplug those damn cfl's AGAIN, this time they stayed on for a whole hour before I ran in and unplugged them. I don't think I'll plug them back up until I get another timer, because I really don't wanna end up with hermies, and at this rate, it's gona happen. DAMN!!

I hook up two surge protectors to my timer and have a dozen lights on it.

I've seen weed flower under street lights before. Hey you just got to remember that your really not stressing them out by leaving the light on longer. It's when it's been dark for four hours and you turn the light on that really stresses them.

Some food for thought, I was reading a seed breeders book, and that particular seed breeder didn't flower on 12/12. He had come up with a time that he really liked but didn't say what it was so it could be 13/11, 11/13, 10/14. 12/12 is just a guideline, and if you think about it some people might just keep there light schedules secret and just say 12/12 cause it sounds normal.

Interesting note about the 12/12. I was talking to a friend the other day and I mentioned that when growing outside the plants always showed their sex in the first week of August, well the light definitely isn't 12/12 then, not until closer to the end of September, the Vernal Equinox.

is this root rot? I've been putting peroxide in there everytime I do a rez change I just don't understand lol.

Looks more like Brown Slime Algae.

Something I have become more familiar with then I ever cared to. Its a Pain in the butt!

Whats the res temps? Ambient air temps? What nutes? h202 will not fix it, if it is Brown Slime Algae.

Let me know!

Cannabis plants will show their sex before flowering. They show it when they have reached proper maturity. In the outdoors, plants have plenty of time to reach this point. Indoors, we generally want to start the flowering process sooner (itchy trigger fingers) and we start 12/12 before the sex is known. This triggers the plant, and will force it to show sex. Forcing it sooner, allows you to take out any males, and also helps keep the plant within indoor height/size limits most people want. Outdoors, you tend to have more room, so you want some big ole trees.

When starting a plant early into flowering, the plant will take 2+ weeks to begin flowering. You should continue veg nutes until flowers begin to form (start to see white hairs). If you veg them out until they show pre-flowers and don't start 12/12 until they have reached sexual maturity you will see signs of flowers slightly faster.

Outdoors, the shorter hours is what triggers the flowerings. Not that the lights get exactly 18/6 and then 12/12 but that as light decreases, the plants figure it out (some sooner then others) and begin their flowering process. Indoors, we just like to keep it simple and go 18/6 (or 24/0) to 12/12.

From what I gather anyway.

Just got my outdoor beans lined up. Looks like I will be giving some autoflowers a try and see if I can get a couple harvest out of them. This will be my first attempt with any autoflowers.

Think about sativa's and they are normally found in the tropical regions ie around the equatorial zone, which is around 12/12 all the time. They get weed to flower and the light really doesn't change. So at that point nature has influence, but that is why you'll see sativa's that will like to flower 3-4 months. There are many factors involved as many have already mentioned, but just subtle changes in nature will trigger weed to flower whether it be less light, cooler weather, or extreme stress like drought.
I'm sure there is something to be found in lighting times other then 12/12, as most true indica's would be farther from the equator with bigger changes in light dark and temp.

I love my sativas but pure ones can be a bitch to get flowering. Land race sativas like those in equatorial regions flower according to age more than light, as like you say, the day/night period has very little variance. A couple of days of darkness and lower temps can get them to commence flowering sometimes.

Up here above the 55th parallel we're not at 12/12 until the middle of Aug. Then frost at the same time some years. lol Sux for outdoor up here. I plan to use a tarp to control light and have some girls outside this summer. Either that or get some auto-flower seeds.

You should buy a larger outlet box, put ALL of your lights on it and hook that to the timer so that they all go off and on together.

Peace
