The 420 Fotographer Collective: Advanced Cannabis Photography

Beautiful guys! I love sunflowers. Blew, I agree that the second one is ‘the shot’. Really nice composition :)

You’re blowing my mind with all these awesome shots of the bees in action Monster. Botanical photography has so much to offer from both a technical perspective and the sheer beauty and wonder side. It’s portrait and landscape and action all a once :)

These first two are the better shots for me. One of them uses leaves to frame the bud site and the other uses leaves as leading lines to the bud. Not great sharpness or depth of field but that’s why I am an amateur lol. The white is a bit blown out in the second shot but. I could fix that if wanted.

The lighting is not great and I wasn’t going to work too hard to make it better. ISO was moved around depending on the light and shutter speed required to get a clear shot of the plants. Being so close requires more light. I was up between F11 and F18 as well, to get more DOF.

Standard use of the tripod and remote shutter release.

The plants being in the large bins, and their size, is limiting my ability to get better light into the shot. Only when they are chopped will I get some good lighting outside of the tent.

Stunning!
:bravo:

A bit of a series of shots. From early flower to now.

Nice work as usual UA!:welldone:

Beauties CM! Love insect macro photography. That’s the initial reason I bought the 100mm macro lens. Those look awesome

Thanks UA! Those shots were taken with my 18-135mm EF-S lens along with some extension tubes to get up close and personal. I'm still working on figuring out all the bells and whistles on this new camera which I may or may not ever fully get to explore.o_O

Well those are pretty sharp for using extension tubes. Well done. That honeybee looks incredible.

I just bought the new Camera+ app for iPhone8 and it produces some pretty incredible macros! The phone has a decent camera and if I add my loupe attachment to my phone I can get some pretty decent closeups!

Using the extension tubes cuts out the auto focus unfortunately so it takes hundreds of shots on the continuous setting mode to get that one special photo to post. Someday I'm going to purchase myself an actual macro lens to make things a bit easier and hopefully get better clarity in the final product.

Here's a hand held macro shot of a miniature 1/4" silver faced hoverfly floating around my yard. These are tough little buggers to get photos of being they're always on the move flying from one flower to another looking for nectar. Enjoy!:ganjamon:

Beauty! Those aren’t easy to capture, crazy flight patterns and so quick

I have these little friends in my garden too! I only ever managed to catch them when they land for a bit.

What extension tubes do you use, monster? (I have a Nikon, so the answer may not be relevant to me - but I thought it worth asking anyway)

You ain't kidding UA! o_O
I've watched them cruise around for what seems like forever to land on a flower for at least a few seconds so I can get some close up photos. That particular picture was taken with the extension tubes practically right up against its face in which it just sat there calmly and let me shoot numerous photos to get that one good macro shot. My new second love next to growing!

I bought the Polaroid extension tube set which for the cost does a pretty decent job.

Hey snap... except I had an obsession with macros of insects before I became obsessed with growing... so same same in different order ;)

They do like to pose for a photo! This one followed me around the garden one day last summer, literally hovering at my shoulder for ages until I finally got the message. Then it landed and stayed there while I shot. Was with my 20 year old Olympus point and shoot (8MP spz 500). Got nothing on your shots! But had to dig it out anyway :)

Very nice Amy!
That's about how close I can get without the extension tubes or my camera being able to focus on my subjects whatever they may be. After that point it's all in the editing with cropping the photos to make the image a bit bigger while adding a splash or two of color if need be.
