THC Bomb & WW/Skunk - CFL Hood/Veg HPS/Flower

I wont be able to answer that till Sunday, maybe Monday. I have a theory though, in my last grow (despite the many failures), I noticed my PH was pretty stable. This time around, I have been adding 3ml of Aqua Shield into the res mixture. Is it possible that when the bacteria expire, their microscopic carcasses are polluting the PH? I know your stance on adding AS to anything but the tea, but reading Heisenberg's post on -------- says that this replenishes the army and keep good bennies in the res in between tea feeds. Maybe next change I will refrain from using the AS in the res.

I haven't looked at the roots yet. When she first sprouted and the roots were jumping from cube to cube, they were blast white, but then I began to get algae on the cubes so I covered the top with hydroton and haven't seen the roots since. I will be taking pics when I transplant of course. I don't want to even pull the root ball out till I'm confident I'll need a transplant b/c I poked small holes in the side of the cup (mini air pot) and those indentations could snag the cubes on the way out and way back in if not root bound. My plan is to check by gently squeezing the cup to see if I can see down the inside. Once I know all the cubes are attached, I will TP into a pot that I won't poke holes in (1 gallon).

I thought a "scoop" was a TBSP?

I have a bottle of GW, and a sample pack of Sweet Mycos Tea.

I am currently using 1/5 of a teaspoon per gallon of great white. Should I adjust further?

DSCF15313.JPG

1/5 teaspoon of great white sounds just fine. See my other post about the PH of the tea. I'll have to research that "sweet mycos tea". It looks interesting.

Who left their smokes at your house?

I also think I'll take the cutting tomorrow and top just above the 3rd node. I gotta first make a decent small clone dome from a soda bottle and whatever else i can find.

I'll try one more time to talk you out of this, and then I won't say anything else about it. I promise you, it will take a month before the clone shows you the sex.

1. Your plant will show sex in veg, before your clone roots and then matures enough to show sex. That is, if the clone makes it.
2. You will be taking the two biggest future branches off your nice plant you've worked so hard to grow.
3. While you're waiting for the clone to root and show sex, your mom plant will be too big to flower in your little cabinet.
4. If the plant you are growing is a girl, cutting the top 1/2 off this plant will delay the time it takes for you to be smoking some premium bud, by at least two weeks.
5. If the plant you are growing is a boy, you're wasting time right now. You should be popping more seeds, in case it is a boy.
6. Giving a MJ plant to a stoner seems like a good idea. So does giving a girl a puppy on her birthday.

With your plan, you're looking at THREE months (valentines day) before you harvest anything. If you're goal is to smoke some weed, here's what I would do:

1. Start a few more seeds today.
2. Top this plant, just the tip. Cut the smallest, lowest branch off it and start the clone in 18/6 (this will give you cloning practice). Then put the plant (not the clone) in flower NOW. Grow a REGULAR plant, without any crazy training methods or snake oil. Just follow a simple recipe, and within two weeks you will know if it's a girl. If so, within two months you and your roomies will be kicking back, enjoying a ZIP of some premium smoke. And you will then have the experience of a full grow in cubes, under your belt. Give some to your girl, and you will have even more under your belt.
3. If it's a boy, you will know in just two weeks! and you can repeat the process with your next plant, from the seeds you started in step 1.
4. If it's a girl, now you have some FOR SURE smoke on the way, meanwhile, you have two months to PLAY with the rooted clone (that you know is a girl). Chop it up, experiment with it, hang Christmas decorations on it, train it to look like a dragon... whatever. Since you have smoke on the way, you lots of time to do your experiments with the next one.
5. If it's a girl, after two months, then flower the clone that you've been training, and go for a 6 zipper, or more!

I know you are somewhat of a perfectionist, and a 1zip, regular plant, is not exciting to you. I also know you have past experience, but it will still be good to get this cube grow under your belt. In addition, your grow will attract a lot of attention, as there are a ton of people out there with similar situations like yours (limited space) who will follow your lead. This is just my suggestion as to what I would do if I were you. Do what you want, and I promise I won't bug you anymore about it. Either way, I'll be cheering you on.

:yahoo:

That's a lot to consider, but I will think it over and reread the above post after a good dinner (I'm cooking baked chicken an oven roasted potatoes, mmm).

Currently, I am planning to flux, LA's new style of micro growing that only wastes as much as 2-3" f usable space. My flower box is 5' high so I have some room to play with. Also, I can't fit my HID in this box, so if funds don't improve to where I can build a 28x28 box, I will have to finish under CFLs. Also to note, I am flat broke. Room mates have been supporting me for the past 3 weeks and I don't see this improving any time soon. Because I am flat broke with limited nutes and space to work with, my thought process is to continue with a flux grow, clone the top and put it in Ocean Forest with perlite and Ancient Forest to thin it out (make it less hot). Might even water the dirt several times before putting a plant in it just to even everything out.

To add insult to injury, I had to clean out a bowl to get a little buzz on. I'd love to have some good ass dank right now, but my means are crippling. I have to borrow $$$ just to get water for the next res change and batch of tea. I expect to be working before my nutes run out, but I am affraid to push that envelope too soon.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for you Capn, more than you may think, so I am seriously going to consider your suggestions and I may even change my mind and go with just that, but I really want to be the 2nd guy to grow a flux like LA is doing. We'll see though. Almost time to eat!!

>>> Give some to your girl, and you will have even more under your belt.

HAHAHA  So very true! I don't know what it is about herb that makes my girl have munchies for other things besides a big bag of chips:laughtwo:

>>>... I really want to be the 2nd guy to grow a flux like LA is doing.

...I felt the same way when I saw the technique, but I realized I rather see the results before I put my plant through a rigorous training regime!

I'm extremely confident his new style is going to be an instant success. though the extra veg time will be hard on a mofo that is patiently waiting, none the less there are a few crossroads before me and I must choose wisely.

it will take a month before the clone shows you the sex.

1) When does the plant show sex? I tried to gather info about pre flowers for last grow, but that bag seed plant was showing me 2 split hairs before it grew out into a leaf/branch. Either I don't know what to look for (which is likely the case) or I interpreted it wrong. Whatever I decide, I know I still have time if I wanna go flux b/c I can make that cut anytime. Can you show me how to screen genders with pre flowers or whatever other method there is to determine gender early?
2) Which 2 branches are the biggest? For both flux and regular grow, this knowledge IMO would prove to be useful in determining where the top should be located.
3) Actually, if I were to let the clone bush up, she would have become much bigger than her parent b/c the flux technique focuses the plants energy on horizontal growth rather than vertical. Along the way of achieving this, the grower also defol's the plant of unwanted leaves and branch sites along the main split stem leaving behind only choice branch locations. I suspect I could delay all of that for a week or 3 to speed things up a bit and just do it when the plant has achieved the horizontal growth I am shooting for (about 20-25" wide). Using the flux method can also be fitted into my already existing schedule and since I am a big proponent of longer veg to increase yield, I figure I will be in veg for the extra weeks anyway.

I doubt you or anyone can remember. I've been a member of this site for a good minute now and when I started my last grow, I didn't even smoke (no longer). I have since started back up, but my interests are purely in growing for the grow. Having started back up of course I want the sticky icky buds, but my love for the grow runs much deeper. Short veg (unless done on mass scale with SOG autos) really turns me off in a non sexual way. I love to experiment and I will never be too happy with an accomplishment as I know myself being human is prone to flaws and errors, and with that knowledge, I'm always looking for a better more efficient way to do something. Plus doing a regular grow adds little knowledge and experience back into the "pool" of growers. This means I'd like to contribute something new and since you've already perfected Simple Hydro, there's not much I can do to improve it.

With that said, I can however isolate a general grow into 2 sections (in the pot and out). Aside from medium choice, every single grow that has ever been undertaken has a single thing in common. The root system. Your methods of growing below the surface produce explosive blast white roots in a medium that hold a great deal of O2 and rapidly drains to a very good balance of O2 and nutrient solution. In my opinion Capn', you got this method on lock! I mean to say that your simple hydro with the Live environment is the best I can hope for. Maybe DWC some day, but not any time soon.

The top growth on the other hand may be too much for me to handle. I have 5' to work with and my CFL light hood takes back 9", the 5 gallon bucket takes another 13.5" and the combined height of my res return setup is another 4" inches minimum. That's 22.5" I have to immediately deduct to better understand what I have to work with. 60" - 22.5" = 37.5" of vertical space. Take another 4" for comfort (top of plant to bulb) puts us just under 3' of usable space.

Have you come across any experience with the White Widow/Skunk#1 genetics? Everyone that is growing it (there's quite a few b/c Herbies gave this strain away for a while) reports explosive growth rates compared to other strains. Even with Fux, I think I'll have my work cut out for me to confine such a plant to 15"D x 30"W x 34"H.

The selling factor for me (aside from the cool look) was that this method utilizes more vertical space than any other method. It's just a simple topping session. The flux doesn't start until the 2 new shoots are LSTed to grow parallel to the brim of the pot. The grower keeps these 2 horizontals bound down so they can only grow out left and right. When the grower stops tying them down, they then follow nature and grow vertical. This method may take a little longer (my schedule has me flipping at or near 12/20) so that's about 5 more weeks of veg. You were dead on with my projected harvest day as it falls right on V-day 2/14. This is a 2 week rooting period, 8 week veg period and 8 week flower period totaling an 18 week grow. The seedling came out of the ground (10/21) 3 days after being planted (10/18). Due to rapid growth, I believe I gained almost a week back that can be applied to veg for 9 weeks and still flip on 12/20. Possibly, we can gain time in veg too and flip earlier, possibly.

It is true this may be a male, and I hope to learn how to screen genders in veg (with preflowers?) To be honest, I am intimidated at what this plant can do to such limited light and space. I think the best course of action is to NOT top just yet, continue to mull this over and await instruction on how to spot male v female in early veg (if possible). Irregardless of what top growth method I choose, I will try to adhere to my schedule and finish for V-day. The sticky icky might help get me some somethin from the fairer gender anyway (I'm single).

Sorry for the rant and over explanation. I know it's a lot to ingest.

Yo sky,
Where do I start? First im sorry I've been to busy to hang out and play and im also sorry your not working.

Im totally with the cap'n and his schedule would be your absolute quickest way to get moving twds. Your goal of operating a Medical Marijuana Dispensary. You have the rest of your life to experiment right now you've got roommates who are depending on you to do whatever you can do to get on your feet asap.
All these training methods are cool and fun but anything thats increasing your harvest date is really costing you ALOT, think of it as interest your going to have to pay back later. That is if there's is a later? Roommate wise?
Get some solid basic one top harvests under your belt before you spend anytime trying to impress anyone else. You had to crap your pants as a baby before you learned how to use a toilet right? Hey man it might sound harsh but when your in a financially desperate situation and when there's others involved its really critical you don't waste time.
To get to the point where you could possibly donate to a dispensary its going to take a long time bro and right now think of all the stuff you could do to improve your situation if you had some funds from a few good basic Xmas tree shaped harvests. If the heights an issue use a screen.
Get the big plant in flower, if you must take a small cut from the bottom. Get some of your other beans in a wet paper towel and get ready
Man I've bought and sold homes and property and had hundreds of thousands of dollars and one year later pulling out meat from the butchers trash, everything you do has a trade off and we just don't want to see you making it any harder than it needs to be. You'll have the rest of your life to do cool shit. Get the plant flowering and start some seeds. Thats my opinion cause after all its $.02 Friday but you do what you feels best, im like cap im done and ill root for ya no matter what you choose.

>>>When does the plant show sex? I tried to gather info about pre flowers for last grow, but that bag seed plant was showing me 2 split hairs before it grew out into a leaf/branch.

6-8 weeks from seed. I've never had one take longer than that to show pistils.

See the difference?

>>> This means I'd like to contribute something new and since you've already perfected Simple Hydro, there's not much I can do to improve it.

Don't be so sure about that. Many people look at my stuff and are overwhelmed with the idea of one huge plant. There is one grower like me for every 100 people who have similar cabinets like yours. Your grow is already attracting a lot of attention. Your grow is much more "do-able" for many people.

>>>In my opinion Capn', you got this method on lock! I mean to say that your simple hydro with the Live environment is the best I can hope for. Maybe DWC some day, but not any time soon.

Thanks! I suspect you and AG will convert over a lot of "cabinet dirt growers" after seeing your grows.

>>>The top growth on the other hand may be too much for me to handle.

Top it and bend it but don't torture it. ha ha ha

>>>Have you come across any experience with the White Widow/Skunk#1 genetics? Everyone that is growing it (there's quite a few b/c Herbies gave this strain away for a while) reports explosive growth rates

WW yes. You will have a good time with it then. There are a lot of good ones out there. You will have a hard time finding a faster veg plant than TGA Ace of spades. Fastest I've seen.

>>>I think the best course of action is to NOT top just yet, continue to mull this over and await instruction on how to spot male v female in early veg (if possible). Ok man sounds good. If you change your mind and decide to grow a regular plant, now is the time to top it.

Walk to to a girl and say, "I grow weed"; she will take her top off instantly. It's kind of like being in a rock band, being a motorcycle racer, being good with a bow staff, chicks dig it.

I also was leaning in that direction with my plant RACHEL SUAVAY (White Widow X Skunk) but after re-analyzing my choices & reading the above quote (& other posts) I've decided to stick to my original plan; Let everything grow vertically using the whole 5 ft. height of the tent. Mind you this is in no way a dis-credit to the ground breaking techniques of LA.

good choice, especially since you can position cfls anywhere in the tent.

when you're working with light from only above, lollipopping and training is where it's at :thumb:

It seems to me that S1ing, Capn and AG are seeing a picture that I just may be too close to. Since it is this community that has offered me assistance of replenishing most of my nutes and additional goodies, I think it would be wise to comply with suggestions of esteemed peers that has grow"S" under their belt, especially since one of said peers is doing me such a solid! I'll keep that hush for now, but I will go ahead and top her high tomorrow morning and veg for another week or two.

Hey bro whatever your choice was we would ALL be there to support it! Dank buds would be the outcome either way right!

Remember with the topping, you can still somewhat 'flux' and keep the plant growing rectangular like I did, just not as uniform. Remember the SPREAD I gave my Bubb a week or two after I topped? Just use that heavy Spimp hand of yours, I know you got it in you, just don't make my mistake and break a branch...oops :laughtwo:

Yeah AG, I remember that...

nice monster ag. that is just topped so far? none of those branches are supercropped over to allow bottem ones to come up? that's what a good veg will get you, hella cola sights!

if youre supercropping I would just tie down the high branches instead of supercrop even though both will work

MUST FEED PLANTS :goof:

It had only been topped, and string was used to hold branches down. The only 'SuperCropping' I did was to the leaves, only to get them out of the way.

I topped it just moments ago and will upload pics in a bit. I'm thinking to pre screen right at the plant's current height forcing the 2 new mains out sideways and when the lower nodes catch up, maybe flip?

Good luck my friend, like everyone has said whatever you do I'm sure it will rock!

It's ironic you said that b/c that's the name of the nutes I will be trying out to finish flower if things don't improve soon. This decision was very hard to arrive at and I'm still piecing it all together in my head. Basically I have temporarily jumped ship on Flux in the traditional sense. For me to feel comfortable taking everyone's advice, I still feel the need to experiment with flux while the lowers catch up, then I believe I will flip to start flowering and get a harvest out the way (assuming this isn't another dude plant). At the current rate of growth, I expect that time period to be 7-14 days which won't give me much time to play with a flux, but I do intend to get a screen in there very soon now to capture all growth and redirect it till everything is level. I still need to get my inlet and outlet fans set up and carbon filter on standby. I will also attempt to completely isolate the light leak between the upper and lower box. If I can, I will immediately drop some more beans. Pics next post.

11/15 Week 02 (28)/VD14

After careful consideration and a good measure of trust, I am gonna table the Flux project for a more opportune or necessary time and just grow a plain jane grow of some mary jane. I topped the plant @ 9:00 PM (3 hours before lights off) just above the soon to be 6th node (first true leaves didn't drop yet). It is now about 52 minutes after, and the wound appears to have cauterized already.

The roots look Capn Style Perfect!! Also I noted root growth is working it's way up the stalk and I will probably add some more cubes at that level and op off the cup with a thin layer of hydroton to prevent algae. Roots appear to be 'at' the side of the cup which might indicate they have also reached (or are near) the bottom. I will hold off the transplant for a couple more days and inspect root crown every once in a while for some indication that they need more room, then they can have it.

On the top of the plant the largest fan leaves are situated. I hope to keep them as long as possible. I mistakenly removed those early in my last grow and growth suffered dearly. This 28 day old plant is nearing the size of the last one after 15 weeks of veg. Of course I made every other mistake, some on purpose to get it out the way and learn from the experience.

I will work on swapping the res out either tomorrow or Sunday. Also have to mix up more tea on Sunday for Tuesday and will add, wait and measure pH after adding each ingredient to see what is making my tea's pH plummet. Currently, the res pulls to 6.1 and I adjust down to the high 5 range at least once a day. I will be adopting lemon juice as a pH down. A brief study indicated that it is also a good source of K. That should be good to know for a Potassium deficiency. I wonder if it can be diluted with water to make a mild foliar spray? PPMs of the res are also on a slow climb. Last night it was 476, tonight it is 482 and temps are 68.9°.

This morning I checked pH before the am feeding and it sat @ 5.9 so I left it be for a change. I also added 2 more bulbs to the hood that are both 2700k @ 23 watts, so there is now a dual spectrum. Also remounted the 120mm PC fans, one between rooms and one on the exhaust hole. The carbon filter I can add any time now. Also have to work on getting the 2' T5 back up top for seedlings and young veg plants. I do need to put up a divider to block light from leaking to the lower box as it will be used for flowering, and if I have anything going on upstairs, light will leak down and ruin buds, so that will be a priority. Today, for the first time, I will add a medium dose of chilled Heisenberg Tea that I've had in the fridge for 2 days. I'm thinking 50-100 ml should be sufficient. Should I use the tea as a flush and Ph stabilizer or should I just add enough to begin run off then stop adding?
