THC Bomb - 12 Site Ebb & Flo - First Grow & Basement Grow Room Construction

Re: THC bomb 12 site Ebb and Flo first grow and Basement Grow Room Construction

Hello Everyone,

Just started to mud the grow room. Bit of advice from experience...if you are going to drywall, you definitely need a second person. The sheets are heavy and unwieldy. Please do not attempt it on your own. I used twelve sheets of 4x8 drywall to complete my 10x12 room. Two walls and a ceiling. I used about 150 drywall screws. Tough hard labor my 420 friends. Took two of us six hours!

This is the first mud coat. There are some good websites for taping and mud work.

Some good news! Out of 15 seeds put into rapid rooters I got 15 seedlings! I placed seeds into ph'd moistened rapid rooters and used a heating mat and some 40 watt fluorescent lights about 6 inches above the plants. The temp has stayed steady at 78 degrees. I mist my baby girls a couple times a day with ph'd water... I don't know if it helps, but it makes me feel better.

Next update finishing the muddling and painting. Stay tuned!

Cannabis is a type of plant that what the temperature of of the seeds are germinated at will partially determine the ratio of male/female germination, please do not use your seedling heat mat when germinating cannabis seeds. Your seedlings do not require misting, water droplets can magnify the light and burn the leaves.

ATTACK OF THE APHIDS (I think)

Hello everyone,

After work I was looking at my tiny seedlings since I put in a small oscillating fan on the other side of the room. I wanted to make sure the fan wasn't pushing around my baby girls too much. So I kept moving the fan farther back and I was just watching my little girls do a little jiggle every few seconds. I finally got the fan to which I believe was a sweet spot and took some time to admire them. I thought what I saw was a speck of dust, but this dust was moving towards the fan! GOOD GOD! Upon closer inspection this orange looking thing was crawling around my rapid rooters. I went to touch it and this thing shot off like a bullet. It didn't fly, but jumped like a flea. After a few moments I saw another. Same thing I went to touch it and off it shot. After seeing a couple more I realized I had a problem.

I went on line and my best determination is that they were very young aphids. My plants are only a inch and a half tall and the leaves have just started to develop. They are really small. Weird how something like that can get into a basement. I don't have ventilation set up yet, so maybe I'll never know how they got in there.

I determined I had two courses of action, hope they are harmless and go away, or fight back and possibly kill my tiny plants in the process. (Oh the joys of ones first grow!) I decided to eradicate the little suckers but chemicals were out if the question. Ran down to Home Depot and bought some Neem and Insecticide soap, all natural stuff where you can use on fruits and vegetables on the day if harvest.

I gave them a coat of each and washed out the reservoir well. I sprayed the area around the grow tray and the hood of my fluorescent work light. I hope my girls survive the night. I'll give a update tomorrow.

Hello everyone,

Ok well I did not have aphids. After reviewing a zillion pests I found out that theses tiny >1mm orange bugs were spring bugs. They are harmless other than they can chew on feeder roots. Not nearly as bad as most pests. I sprayed NEEM and insecticide soap on them and it got rid of them quick. They call them spring bugs because if you try and touch them they jump about ten inches. Freaky. It has been two days and plants and roots look good and healthy. When I sprayed the few that were in the tray started spraining out of the tray. They were all dead when they landed. I suspect that they came in the rapid rooters. Because I cleaned my basement with 10% bleach solution and had filtered ventilation for a solid week before I even planted. However, I can not prove this. I read that some folks microwave their rooters before using. I may do that in the future. Otherwise the rooters work awesome and I highly recommend them.

Finishing up muddying and sanding the grow room. Will probably paint this weekend and set up my lights and system early next week. I will keep you posted dear readers. Stay tuned!

I'm looking for a new growing system and I think Ebb & Flow is where I will be heading next. Please, do include many photos when you assemble your grow system. I'd like to know as much as you can explain. I'm having a heat problem and I think it'll be easier to cool one reservoir instead of multiple bubble buckets during the hot summer months.

Re: THC bomb 12 site Ebb and Flo first grow and Basement Grow Room Construction

MikeTbob, as far as Ive found in such a short period so far its the easiest set up and operation ever! :) Im completely sold. Also having my res outside tent means no temp issues! :)

Thanks for that. That is exactly what I was aiming for....getting my res outside of my grow closet. I'm currently in the middle of running new AC duct through the attic to my closet in an attempt to get the temps down to a manageable level. If this doesn't work out like I plan then I am going to Ebb & Flow for sure.

Re: THC bomb 12 site Ebb and Flo first grow and Basement Grow Room Construction

Hello Everyone,

Update on my progress. Below are my seedlings day 9 in the rapid rooters. They were looking a bit weak so I started with 1/4 strength nutes. They seem to be doing fine, and I just put them under a MH lamp that I'm running at 600W. Probably going to move them into my system within the next day or 2.

The room is pretty much done. I decided to go with a Active Aqua Grow Flow system with 12 buckets. In this picture I just hung the reflective sheeting and was fooling around with bucket placement.

Will probably hook up the system and do some dry runs tomorrow.

Did the insect you are describing appear like these?

The following photographs show thrips

No thankfully they were not thrips. They were definitely spring bugs. Some NEEM did them in. When you would go to touch one the would jump like a foot. Thanks for the looking out though. Much appreciated!

Hello everyone.

Finished putting together the active aqua ebb and flo system last night and did some test runs. Overall it works very well. Simple to put together and pretty simple to operate. I was up late testing and did not take any pictures. I will be planting into the system today. (Yeahh!) my seedlings are getting way too big for the rapid rooters. Full rundown tonight. Stay tuned!

re: THC Bomb 12 Site Ebb & Flo First Grow & Basement Grow Room Construction

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I grew frustrated with the 420 boards software platform. I made a big update and clicked the wrong button and "poof" lost my entire post that I spent hours on.
Anyways the anger of that has subsided and I will be happy to give a update and pictures to follow.
THC Bomb: Wow! Ladies and gentlemen this strain is has amazing growth. Short and bushy with 1/2 inch intermodal length. I hope it smokes as good as it looks.
Being my first grow I have learned a TON! I almost killed my plants in the processs but they are doing great now. Firstly I changed nutes after three weeks of veg. Went from Lucas Formula GH to House and Garden nutes. In about a day went from puny and weak to massive and fighting them off with a stick! Crazy growth! Three of my twelve plants were stunted and the rest were limping along. 24 hours later. Boom! 3 inches a day growth. I don't know what kind of voodoo is in H&G but it works! Pricey but great results.
I also had my plants on a 24 hour light schedule. Big mistake! Please don't do this! 18/6 is the way to go. Increased aeration in my res from 3 watt air pump to 2 20 watt air pumps! Boom! I will do a full write up and pics tonight. Talk soon!

Re: THC bomb 12 site Ebb and Flo first grow and Basement Grow Room Construction

Hello Everyone,

Here are a couple of pictures of the grow at the end of the second week of flower.

image12933.jpg

image12935.jpg

The strain is THC Bomb and it has grown very well. It is a short and ver bushy plant. With vigorous growth. During veg I was getting 2-3 inches of growth a day in veg with the House and Garden nutrients. They stretched about 50% more during the first two weeks of flower. Didn't do as well with the Lucas formula. I know I will probably get flamed for disrespecting the Lucas formula, but House and garden is so much better IMHO. I started out under 2 1000w Digilux Metal Halide bulbs with a raptor hood and a hydro farm XXXL hood. I switched over to HPS when I switched to Flower after five weeks of veg. I veged about a week longer than I wanted to, because I stunted my plants pretty bad in my efforts to fight the root rot I had.

Things I learned so far (not listed by importance)

THC bomb is a very vigorous and tough plant. I tried my best to kill it being a complete noob, but it fights back despite my best efforts! Been very impressed with this strains growth and toughness. Intermodal space is less than a 1/2" on most of the plant during veg.it can take huge swings in nutes and still look okay.

The raptor hood side is growing visibly much better than the hydro farm hood.

If you are running ebb and flo set up, keep your res cool and aerate the shit out of it.

I initially had a 2 watt air pump for my 55 gallon res. The plants got stunted and res would get very smelly. I checked the roots and they were grey and slimy. When you have root rot it can show up like every kind of nutrient deficiency or pest problem. I had a very serious case of root rot. I initially started treating my res with 33% at about 5 ml's per gallon of hydrogen Peroxide for about a week. This really didn't help and my plants started to actively die. My first grow was failing quickly. This was pretty demoralizing since I put about 60 hours of work building the room. I went to the hydro store to buy more hydrogen peroxide and the very kind and knowledgeable owner heard my plight of root rot. I gave him a full rundown on what I have done so far and he steered me in the right direction.

I bought two 20 watt air pumps and got the res bubbling like a witches cauldron. The plants started to come back to life, but I still had existing root rot and they were limping along. I started using Aquashield and BAM! Wow what a great product. Within twenty four hours there were bone white roots growing out the old dead roots. Amazing stuff. Add it to res and do a bit of foliar spraying with it and you won't be disappointed. The stuff works. I was also dumping frozen water bottles in my res because it was getting warm in the res with temps hitting 82F. The res is out of my grow room in a cool dark area. Just was hot outside with temps hitting 100F. With the ice I get it down to about 72. So if you are thinking about ebb and flo or have root issues, three things, aeration at about a watt per gallon, Aquashield, and keep it cool!

Building a basement grow room is a huge amount of work. Don't underestimate how much labor goes into building one of these. Plan it out, build it right and take your time. I had my very handy adult son help me build it who was a lifesaver. If you are thinking about building one yourself , don't do it. Get a tent! If you don't believe me go to Home Depot and try to lift a piece of sheet rock above your head. You will then believe me!

If anyone has any questions about ebb and flo, THC bomb, or grow room construction, please post them here. I have made every mistake possible for my first grow and I have (hopefully) learned from them.

re: THC Bomb 12 Site Ebb & Flo First Grow & Basement Grow Room Construction

Nice rundown of things! :) I'm running an Oxy pot ebband flow and I'm not running any res aeration. My res is outside my tent so temps ain't an issue. I lifted one of my cloth pot inserts last night and have about 2 foot of white roots out the bottom :)
I don't doubt your words one bit, in fact I understand them to be true. I'm just on a budget and am winging it. So far I've been luckt is all I reckon.
Anyway thanks for coming back and giving such a good update :)
