Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

hey Tead, Cannaruss here, I noticed you haven't mentioned temps in a few days. Has that cold front hit you like it has me in the south? My temps are now great. Getting in the low 40s at night and 68 to 70 during the day. Just wondering if this is bringing your grow room temps to your liking.

So... I just came back from the grow area and had changed some fans from 24hrs to day only... your timing is impeccable.

Welcome 'round cannaruss!

It's been crazy nice! I've not run the house AC in 2 days! I see a nice 80's/60s pattern moving in tomorrow and for the foreseeable future. Plus the humidity has been way low... but that will change tomorrow as the gulf air settles back in. It's an odd time of year where fronts from up north push the gulf air south for a day or two, then the warmer air slowly retakes it's previous position. Makes for creativity in the grow room, but it's a dance I do yearly on both sides of summer.

What'r ya growin? Got a journal up? Know about Crawfish?

yeah I got a hempy grow going. Its 4x8 tent with critical+, lemon skunk and mataro blue. I also have two swiss cheese clones going. I had horrible problems with my seedlings being started in bad peatmoss. I started my last four seeds in peat pellets and transplanted them into all perlite hempy buckets. They are just now starting to take off. like you, my temps have been too high, they are just now getting better. I noticed that starting seedlings in large hempy buckets didn't work well for me. I transplanted my smallest seedling into half a two liter bottle that I cut in half and it took off immediately, its actually outgrowing everything else now. The only thing im worried about is transplanting it back into a bigger bucket. It seems like perlite is gonna go everywhere with roots dangling down. Has this been an issue with you?

We have a crawfish festival once a year here in Bama and I make sure I don't miss it, love me some crawfish.

Wow. I can well imagine the scene as we do many such affairs around here. Rows of crawfish pots burlin up the spicy mix of crawfish, sausage, red 'taters, garlic (whole heads), maybe a few artichokes.
Crawfish season nears. Yowsa!
Had a house in B'hman a while back. Southside. Right up the hill a touch from the UAB sports med place and also a couple blocks from Dreamland. Dreamland starts cooking early in the morning and the smell permeates the neighborhood every damn morning.... it's a very evil marketing ploy they use guaranteeing traffic from the locals.

Lots of questions....

I grow and love Crit+. Are you growing the original Crit+ or the newer Crit+2.0? I currently have the 2.0 version going and it grows very similarly to the original version. Just started so I've not harvested one yet and don't know about the smoke... but expect great things.

I had problems with the peat pellets myself. Probably due to 95% humidity combined with 95f temps. I've had great luck using perlite alone for both cloning and seeds. When you water buckets with peat pellet plants, try to avoid getting the pellet too wet... it can lead to rot issues.

I've been popping my seeds directly in their final home bucket. Probably not the best/fastest way to go. I keep them very wet by watering them daily a touch until they get 2 or 3 leaf sets going. It takes a little while for them to take off as they really don't start growing fast until the roots hit the bottom. I know I could get better performance transplanting them, but I'm super lazy.
I clone in small containers with hempy holes... kinda like little hempy cloners. You can see some examples a few pages back.

Don't worry one bit. Easy-peasy baby!
First... do it in an area where you don't mind or can easily clean up spilled perlite and water. I do it in my back yard and don't cry one bit over spilled perlite.
Fill your target bucket with a bit of perlite in the bottom... high enough to cover the hole.
Get your transplant victim and float it out of the perlite by plugging and filling it's pot with water. Then gently wiggle the plant out.
Dangle the plant over the target bucket at the height you want with one hand. Use your other hand to fill in the container with perlite around the roots.
Keep holding the plant at the height you want. Pick the bucket up with your other hand and tap it on the ground gently a few times to get the new perlite to settle a bit. Top off the perlite after it settles.
Water it in well with whatever mix you use.
<editorial note... you payin attention here SweetSue?>

I rarely see any growth impact from the transplant, tho it may pause for a little bit as it's rots reach back down into the res at the bottom.

great info Tead. Transplanting was worrying me but you eased my mind on that issue. I have noticed that it takes awhile for the seedlings to take off. I can see through the green 2 liter bottle so I know when the roots hit the bottom. As far as my other buckets that are much larger im not sure where the roots are. I am growing the original critical +. The cross between big bud and skunk #1. I like the fact that it has big yields without losing the thc content that just big bud had to offer. I read up on the 2.0 version, I believe its just a more stable version of the original, correct me if im wrong. Me and the wife love the effects of lemon skunk, its a energetic buzz that wont just lay you out and the smell and taste are amazing. As far as the mataro blue goes I was wanting something with some color in it and I didn't want to go with the norm that everyone gets like GDP or purple erkle and so forth. I like what I seen looking at Kannabia products and mataro is their most famous strain, its a cross between Black domina x original mazar I shariff x blue monster. hopefully we can compare harvests of the critical plus to see if there is a difference between the souped up version you have.

I have a biker buddy that used to talk about an annual rally near Baton Rouge for crawfish. They had a 1 yard cement mixer bucket fired by a decommissioned LearJet 60 engine. I think they did 3 second bursts to cook 40-50 gallons of crawfish. He tended to show pictures when drunk. And attend when drunk, so we are both sketchy about the details.

so we are both sketchy about the details.

It's ok... those are always the most interesting details anyway.
I could see a cement mixer cook pot. Cook 'em up and dump them out. A jet engine seems like a mighty complicated heat source... I think I'd stay with burners unless I was using a dump truck as a cooker. On the other hand, if one had an opportunity to cook anything with a jet engine, one should thank the godz that be for that opportunity and jump all over it.
Back when I used to wear too many shades of green daily, we used to have racks welded on to the engine blocks of our 2 1/2T cargo trucks. You'd put your C-ration cans into the racks to warm up your meals. Still tasted terrible, but a little heat helped some. Not nearly as fun as cooking with a jet engine.

The plants take a while before their roots develop and reach down into the nutrients down below. It's the one part of the hempy grow that goes at soil speed. After they reach their roots down a bit, you see the explosion of growth speed.
Not sure your see-thru bucket is a good idea. I block all light from the root zone. Bad things can grow down there really quickly.
I'm really touchy about root rot issues... had some problems in that area. Tried to grow in a white bucket once. It let a touch of light thru. As soon as I hit bloom, the whole root system rotted and I was left with a green plant with absolutely no root system. Happens so fast.

I'm down baby! You a Jazzfest visitor? I have parking right near the front gate!

Good story LMAO I have to say :bong:

i went ahead and wrapped black electrical tape around the two liter so no light can get in. This one is a critical plus that will be transplanted in the next week or so. I am using a 4 gallon bucket that is white, I hope I don't have any issues with that one. Im using the Blue Planet Elite series for nutes. Do you think its a problem that im already using the 600 hps? they are starting to really take off now and there is no issue with burn. I have a 600 MH bulb but it got really hot compared to the hps.

OMG, you had me rolling on the floor!!! Still laughing.

The white ones can be very translucent. Stick your head inside it and look at a light source. If you see light penetrating thru the plastic, hit it with a layer of black spray paint. Clean and lightly sand the bucket before you spray paint it.... it helps the paint stick better.

Do you think its a problem that im already using the 600 hps?

I sure wouldn't let it bother me. It will make some minor differences, but nothing terribly significant.
While on the topic of lights.... You running a Cool Tube? They can really be a great thing in a heat challenged garden. Love my Cool Tube.

im using the straight perlite method like you are. I rinsed it before I used it but there is still build up of grey residue that settles. Will this residue effect the roots at all? I tried flushing with lots of ph'd water to see if it would rinse it out but it just sticks to the bottom.

I bet you're using the Miracle Grow perlite. It's full of that damn dust. Not long ago the Viagrow perlite showed up at my local hardware store. I'm a much happier grower since the change.
I used to rinse the perl in a big tub letting the dust fall to the bottom and pulling out the larger grains with my hands. The dust and smaller grains got dumped into my veggie garden.

So, my neighbors/tenants have finally tossed in the towel. I can't say I shed any tears when they told me. Got notice from them yesterday.
To their credit, they apparently realize that this city is just not a good fit for them. Additionally, they've avoided further visits to the pokey and have only minimally banged up their brand new Jeeps while drunk driving.
I'm just super happy that that big storm cloud floating over my soul will soon be lifting.

I just shake my head over the way that cliche played out. The script is so worn. You just can't drink your way thru this world.... not for long anyway. A city based primarily upon the consumption of liquor is just not a good environment for anyone that can't control themselves around a bottle.

Out with the old... in with the new. I look forward to meeting new humans. Hmmm.... how can I make my unit more attractive to the Swedish Bikini Team?

I couldn't handle the heat and humidity you have down that way lol it is bad enough when my area hits a dew point of 70 with temps in the 90'sF lol
