I toss a note in a bottle into the ether. May it's journey thru the wires be fruitful.
The note reads "I need new DNA".

Did you save some to split with the other members in the MotM thingy?
The winner "shares". Lol.
Hey tead a question if I may, how deep do you think a res on a hempy could be before having to put in a air stone lol
That's an awesome question that brings up 2 good points.
The first of which is hole location. While I can't share what's best, I can share what seems to work for me.
On my 3gal containers, I'm at 2 inches measured inside.
My 5Gal girl got about 4 inches. I may pay for that, but it's been fin so far.
On my 2L girl, I did about 1.5 inches.
Secondly, you touch on incorporating an airstone in a hempy res.
While I've not done it, I'm a fan of the general idea. I mean, providing air directly down at root level just seems good all around. One might bubble a bit of mix out the hole, but that seems like an extremely minor issue.
I've considered something as simple as running the airtube down the inside of the bucket. I'd need to pickup a smaller airstone, but I need some smaller ones anyway.
Perhaps I'll give it a try on my next large bucket.

Hmmmm i put my drain hole about 2 inches up on all my hempys cause everything I read said put the hole at two inches lol. If you were to incorporate a air stone for a hempy wouldn't you be able to put the hole a bit higher since it would be more akin to a dwc at that point? I mean it would be a dwc that would be easier to manage like not needing to change the res. I haven't messed around with airstones yet but do you think it would clog up the air stone cause that could be potentially problematic to fix lol. Just some things I been thinking about lol
Maybe just an open air hose. Hmmm... seems like the air would just bubble up thru one set path that way.
I would go for a deeper res if I went that way... but not by much. Maybe an extra inch or two.

Hahaha it's funny that you think this is complex i think LOS is complex lol i just can't wrap my head around that style of growing.Reading this discussion makes me appreciate the simplicity of LOS no-tills sitting on SWICK reservoirs, plants growing in fabric pots to gain more aeration. I'm the definition of a lazy gardener.
Guilty as charged. I was excited to discover I could vaporize fresh bud. Did a little dance of joy that day and went right to the drying rack to clip off a piece of my Dark Devil Auto. Sweet life indeed!

Would possibly be best if the hose was placed towards the center of the pot i would think.
Maybe if the hose was coiled around the bottom of the hempy and had little holes in the coiled bit of hose maybe that would do it. It in theory would provide even distribution of air bubbles and maybe would solve the potential problem of the air line hose. One would think. But then again, maybe the output from an open air hose would just bubble up thru 1 path and be of little use.
Perhaps there are reasons we don't see too many of these modified hempy grows.
Perhaps....
I'm with Lex... we're just over-nerding about the location of a drain hole... and it probably makes little difference anyway.
Tho I must give you a nod... soil grows are simpler... no doubt... but not by much.
What's this LOS no-till bit? I've used SWICK before. No-till is an agri term I'm familiar with but don't really see an application for in small grows. Do tell.
