Cut top colas from 3rd gear. Not happy with her overall. Underfed her at just the wrong time. Tho she was flushed, I pumped more mix into her today in hopes of getting more growth out of the newly uncovered buds.
Watered the osmo plants with 1/2tsp grow water. I had recently bumped their amounts and wanted to give them a touch more, so I did it in the water instead of adding more osmo.
5gal is just looking awesome. I'll give her one more topping and let her grow out a bit from that topping before I flower her. She's gonna be a monster.

OH! Picked up 2 more of those fat-ass 63W bulbs... and a miter saw... good day at the toy store.

How long you planing on vegging that 2-liter hempy?

No idea. I guess until I like her enough to shove her out there. Maybe at twice the height of the pot. I've been pondering that exact point. Further, I'm not even sure I want to top her. I believe I'm going to let her grow out naturally and see what she does. One needs a baseline after all.
Any input on the matter?

Hmmmm well if my experience with 2-liters serves me at all (since i havent tested how long you can successfully veg and flower a hempy that size) i would suggest a 4-5 week veg depending on how fast that strain grows then throw it in flower and i say this because in my experience growing in peat moss soil less mix in 2-liter drain to waste i fond that more then 6 weeks veg for some strains makes them really rootbound by the end so you loose alot of leaves, it ends up being a auto defoliation pretty much, but ya as for 2-liter hempys im npt sure how many weeks it is safe to veg for but i figure it should be much longer then in peat moss if it is. Hope this post is understandable because I am pretty high lol

Just to continue some "jackleg engineering"....
Had an external reflector for my cooltube hanging around. It has an internal one. Not even sure why they included it in the package.
Anyway... those CF lights have been emitting at least 1/2 their light in bad directions... why not connect some dots here... so I did.

I'm just so damn lazy. Took all of 2 minutes.

Oh! Zip ties... don't forget all the zip ties. Bungee cords, duct tape, and zip ties.

I'm fond of the zip ties and you'll find them all over the ceiling of my tent. I like to shore up that area with wire shelving because I hang my CFLs from individual cords to get them right down there to surround the plant with light. Hadn't thought of bungees, so thank you so much for the inspiration Tead. :hugs:

For further clarification on vegging times in a 2ltr I'd go ask B A R. He probably has more documented experience than anyone else I've followed on using 2ltrs. Not to suggest you don't know what you're talking about lexort, because I know you do, but you yourself suggest you might not know for certain.

I love the healthy look of your osmo girl1 and the 5gal girl. :thumb: Such a delight to follow.

You would be right Sue and I won't claim to know everything on them lol i know that the strains i grow don't like a super long veg in 2-liters and i know in my setup that is what works, but there are too many variables for me to feel confident enough to give a definitive answer on it.

Subscribed Tead, I'm only on page 1 but wanted to ask you about the bug strip, have you used them for long? Veg & Flower? If they test for insecticide will they find any inside or out? Do you wash your buds? do you have any bug problems? :Namaste:

Sorry for the laundry list of questions, you don't find to many guys using them and I don't know why. :thedoubletake:

Thanks Sue. I sure hope the osomos come out good. Just plugging in some calmag'd water sure does appeal to me.

Welcome RSO! Sorry you feel the need to read back. I hope you find something of use.
The strips are called "Hot Shot No Pest Strips". I learned about them from someone else many years ago. I swap it out every 6mos. I write the date on the strip with a Sharpie so I know when.
Do they work.... hard to tell.... don't think I've had any invasions since their implementation. Could be coincidence, but I suspect not.
I do an occasional Neem spray in the veg tent as a preventative measure also.

Do you wash your buds?

At some point along your reading, you'll discover that I'm just really lazy. That seems like a bit of work... I'll just suck it down and enjoy the ride... kinda like your first Crawfish boil.

And I like to crank a few of those variables WAY outta norms.
I'm gonna shoot for 2x the 2L bottle size. It seems about right for the root mass size.

Back again...had internet issues.
I'm going to try a variety of unexplored mediums and methods, drain to waste hydro, for the solo cup thing. Cups will contain coco, perlite, rockwool, and hydroton. Once the babies build roots to the point where I can water them a couple times a day I will be home free for watering, and can let the robot watering system take over while I explore other ways to torture them to death. Guesstimating how to get through the first couple weeks, without watering too much or too little, seems like it will be tricky. I'll make a mini hempy or two. It seems like perlite wouldn't work too well without that little reservoir at bottom...

Oh man... diggin me sum Iko Iko this morning. Even ran into a version (strange version) sung live by Hugh Laurie. I'll give him a touch of credit... one of his backup singers had Mardi Gras Indian blanket thingy.... a small visual nod to the MG Indians.
Hell, the Dead even covered it.
Iko is just such a fun one. All about meeting between MG Indian groups and the fighting that occurred back in the old days of MG.

Various folks in the MG Indian groups wore costumes (a huge understatement) based in specific colors.
"Look at my king all dressed in red. Bet you five dollars he'll kill you dead"
Indians wearing red were the fighting arm of that group.

"See that man all dressed in green? He's not a man, he's a luvin machine."
Green was the color that ambassadors communicating with other groups wore.

We usually do our history in food. Sometime it's hiding in music.
Fun! Luv me sum MG music.

I'm not sure you can actually overwater a hempy container that small. That small amount of medium will drain super quick and provide oxygen to the roots really quickly after watering. I feel the robot might be perfect for this situation.
I don't think it will be tricky at all to get them thru the first weeks. I'd start with 2 or 3 cycles a day. Watch for boating leaves... but I'd bet you'll be fine.

I feel the res at the bottom is important... you notice how plants take off when the roots get down to the res in larger hempies. I did a clone in a cup with the cup sitting in a plastic saucer that held about an inch of water. There were holes in the bottom of the cup. When I watered it, the runoff would fill the saucer and create an external res. It would usually be dried in a few hours.

Awesome you're doing this. I'll be keeping my eyes on the contest.
