Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Photos (from yesterday) and feeding (also yesterday)

Flying way too low and fast for much banter... sorry all.

Betty of course. Dropped her the other day and thought I broke her for a minute... but she recovered.

OsmoGirl... I think her roots have hit the bottom. She's really accelerating.

Crazy days....

Highs and lows....

Let's get the trash out of the way first.

I'll have to take a moment to apply some background paint to the scenery. Your humble Tead has a secret alter ego (as do we all, of course) as a "home buyer-fixer(ish)-then rent it out" kind of guy. It's a touch of side entertainment that keeps me from spending too much time babbling on these forums as well as providing a bit of the other green leafy stuff that runs thru our lives.
Another touch of background paint is a bit of local knowledge. An extremely common type of house down here is called a "shotgun double". Many of you would call it a duplex. We, of course, generally reject the normal use of the English language and must apply our own names to everything.

Ok... enough painting.

As a landlord, I've been pretty lucky and avoided most tenant horror stories.... "been" being the operative word.
For the last 4 months, the neighborly relationship I like to normally support between my housemates and myself has been nothing but hell.
It started on Day1 when they arrived sporting an extra human being in their entourage (wow... spelled that right the first time!) and continued when they only had 1/3 the deposit. So, now I'm sharing a wall with 3 rambunctious children ("Oh, they won't cause any damage") that are obviously running at every occasion and apparently jumping off beds frequently.... sounded like a circus going on over there... and as an added bonus, their parents are a touch lacking in their financial affairs.
It just went downhill from there, of course. Early in the affair, I even tried to put the guy to work. He said he had construction experience... I was in the middle of a fixer-upper and put him to work for a day. It didn't work at all. He even kinda stole from me... worked 5 hrs and accepted 8 hrs pay before I was aware he had only worked 5 hrs. He seemed confused why he wasn't invited back for a 2nd or 3rd day... I just told him he wasn't needed rather than even entering into the discussion with him.
Oh they sucked in so many different ways. I mean, they couldn't even be bothered to take their trash to the curb on garbage day. The flies and critters were a real problem as it built up.
I'll not list any more of the issues I had with them... you get the idea... any further words would just for a higher trash pile.
They finally moved out like thieves in the night a couple of days ago. I'm so happy those turds were finally flushed.
All sorts of damage. Disgusting filth. You know... all the standard nightmarish stuff. It'll probably be a few weeks before I can get it back to habitable status. Of course, they left owing 1 1/3 months rent, a bunch of water bills (shared between the units).

Meh! Enough of that. Oh they sucked. So happy they're gone.

Photos, feedings, and observations.

Betty...

Feeding notes... raised flower and veg mixes. Flower to 2.75tsp and veg to 1.5tsp.
Weather notes... temps are way down into the 50's. I can run all my heat generating lights and accessories.
So, running the dehumidifier really drives up transpiration more than I expected. Nice. My pots are drying out nicely with a 3 day cycle.
Everything is going along so nicely that it's a touch boring.

looking great in there my friend

happy new year to you and yours

Good riddance to your tenants. I put my sister up in a place, and you won't believe what she got up to. She screwed me royally. So much for family.

I see osmogirl has now decided to put some energy above the surface. Nice job bud.

Morning Tead. I was hungry for a bit of accent today and you never fail to make me smile in appreciation. I adore the way you've chosen to make your own language in your neck of paradise. My favorite phrasing, by far, is "making groceries". :laughtwo: This one fascinates me so much I've found myself using it, much to the confusion of my friend. Of course, I lack the necessary accent, so she just thinks I'm odd.

I actually cringed reading about your run-in with a water spout. Whew! Dodged that bullet didn't you?

It's good to hear your temperatures are beginning to drop into the cooler side, and your plants, of course, are looking sweet. I'm not likely to ever try hempy, since I'm so lazy all I want to do is plant, water and harvest, a process my soil allows without any stress, so it's nice to be able to watch you with yours. I'm sure I'd be really bad with adding neutrients checking ph levels. Of course, I also have pests to overcome on occasion, including those thrips I'm certain are enjoying the hell out of my no-tills while I'm on vacation. It's ironic that I came to Phoenix to beat the chill and it's been consistently cooler here than in Pittsburgh since I arrived. ha!

I couldn't remember if I wished you a Happy New Year, so just in case

Happy New Year Tead.  :slide::partyboy::party::partyboy::party::slide::party:

Thanks. I gave her a boost and hope to see corresponding jump in her.

Ya know... I love to preach hempy shouldn't you be growing hempy? but I surely realize that everyone has their own niche and growing style. What works for me oh, it will work great for you is not the right answer for all. I was a soil grower and outdoor grower for quite a while and tried a bunch of hydro styles... so I've sure tried many and can easily see some of the various fits.
Having said all that, you know there are plenty of us here doing the hempy thing, and you could always find an experienced word and some good thread reading to guide you along the way should you decide to dip your toe. You could even try it in a 2L bottle and some powdered baby formula.

As for the accent... it's in writing only unfortunately. I'm an import and was raised with a much cleaner dialect.... sure wish I could roll me some french-cajun tho... those fishermen spewing french cajun in a normal discussion just enthralls me.

Music and food...

Hey tead hows it going brother lol i see your setting out the "bait" again lol anyways I been thinking a bit and i think you should (dont have to just a suggestion) write up a "what you need to know about growing in a pure perlite hempy. I suggest this because other then the occasional journal i run across or thread i haven't really seen any guides to what you need to know about perlite hempys. I know I have had questions numerous times and you have always answered my questions in a very clear way so i thought hell who better to write a guide. Lol. Anyways just my random thought for the day. Take it easy and good vibes your way.

I agree. I did something similar for setting up an LOS No-Till. I keep it posted in my blog and every time I need to post all or part of it that effort pays off big time.

Thanks. I gave her a boost and hope to see corresponding jump in her.

One of my favorite videos. I'm mesmerized by the accent and the music melts me. :circle-of-love:

:laughtwo: You pull the laid-back southern charm attitude off supremely well Tead. How long have you lived in the heart of cajun country? Stay there long enough and you'll begin to evolve. Haha! Ever read Ray Bradbury's short story "Dark They Were And Golden-Eyed"? Some places just draw you into them and I suspect you sit right in the middle of one of those zones.

I guess I'll just have to get that accent fix from Cajun then. No complaints there. :battingeyelashes: It's listening to him with my virtual ear that sent me into the study of the cajun language. Every now and then I let myself get completely immersed in it. Makes my heart beat faster listening to the videos. I'm just a language geek.

One of these days I may take your advice and try the 2 ltr bottle grow. I have scads of perlite on hand. It's a matter of space and planning. I'll be growing for oil production, which means I need to be more attentive to increasing yield within a more restrictive space, now that the tent had to come down.

Cute attempt at subliminal messaging there. :laughtwo:

Those subliminal messages were the final push to my conversion lol. Hey Sue you could always give your hand a go at a pure perlie hempy sog like I got going and it wouldn't take barely any space. Here look for yourself here's a couple of pictures from my flowering box its made of two. 30gallon totes it ends up being a clam shell kinda anyways these girls are 21 days old flowered once rooted anyways on to the pictures lol

I'll be able to fit 15 plants in there. 5 down 3 across

Hey tead hows it going brother lol i see your setting out the "bait" again lol

Chummin the waters is generally a good technique for many fishermen. I've never been afraid to toss some bait when I see a fish jump.

One of my buddies just picked up a new Pirogue the other day... been doing a touch of fishin. Apparently the mind can't switch gears.

I been thinking a bit and i think you should (dont have to just a suggestion) write up a "what you need to know about growing in a pure perlite hempy.

It's on the list of things to do. Perhaps your words will raise it up a notch or two on the list. I'm pretty damn lazy and having some 'cut and paste' fodder might be handy.
I've recently decided to try the 2L bottle hempy grow. It will be the first time I've gone that small.

2-liters work perfect only thing you have to keep in mind is dont expect giant trees or huge round bushes because it just doesnt seem to work too well. Ofcourse it goes without saying but I'll say it anyways you won't want to veg forever in 2-liters before switching to hempy sog i usually vegged 2 weeks to 4 weeks depending on a few things then flip to flower space permiting lol. I would be very interested in seeing your perlite hempy guide i will eagerly await it lol wont hold my breath though i refuse to do that lol :tokin:

Ya know... the swamp water starts intruding into your life as soon as your roots hit the soil down this way. It's not long before you're askin your neighbor about "your mom an 'dem". So many aspects of life are built on some crazy old tradition. Crawfish 'burls', King Cake, liqour, tourism, frequent storms, Leidenheimer bread, and too many other things to list all combine to form the intoxicating gumbo that call to the hearts of many unique characters.
I've been contributing to the gumbo since the late 90's. Long enough to appreciate some of the finer points.

I may soon take my own advice and try a 2L grow. I've been stretching the "no grow tent is ever big enough" axiom lately. I focus on making larger plants, but I'm starting to think that a mix might be more productive.

I do have one initial issue. The tall height and small diameter of the 2L soda bottle combined with the shape of the bottom make me unsure of how high to put the hole. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I feel like I could be able to get 3 or 4 large colas off a plant if I manicure it correctly in veg... but that may be optimistic.

Hmmm i would say if you use like a mountain dew bottle, not those funny shaped coke bottles, i personally would put the by the bottom of the label or maybe a few centimeters higher to account for the weird shape bottom. Haven't run a hempy 2-liter yet cause i was using the 1.75liter juice bottles i had on hand and they are square so its a little different but I put the hole on those about 2-2.5 inches up. Im sure you could get some really nice colas in a 2-liter with proper training. I am fond of lst while growing in 2-liter but that was more for the fact i use cfls then anything to do with the 2-liters lol.
WP_20151116_16_15_57_Pro.jpg
plant on the left was grown in a drain to waste 2-liter in a mixpeat moss soil less mix and lots of added perlite. I ended up having to clone that plant due issues i believe I was having with the peat moss mix throwing the ph off but its decent size for being in a 2-liter i just wouldnt advise going much bigger.

Feeding and photos.
Bloom mix at 2.75. Veg mix at 1.75.

I added 10g of osmo+ to OsmoGirl at the last feeding. No indication of any issues yet. Slow, but that's probably expected... I'm trying to error on the side of caution, so she's probably hungry.
The second osmo+ plant will probably get an additional 10g on the next feeding.
