Tead I checked today and temp at canopy is the same as room ambient. 84F. 12" directly under the light and there is no real perceptible heat coming from the LED. Yep you read that right. No perceptible heat from the LEDs at 12"

Awesome! Thanks!
The idea is forming slowly. I saw the boards and drivers. I don't suppose you have any way to measure heat off the back side of the unit?
Normally, I think of 3 sources of heat from lights. Power conversion, light generation, light delivery. Your info covers the heat delivered to plant surfaces, but there are 2 other concerns for the warm garden grower.
I find myself craving shrimp etoufee today.
I find myself craving shrimp etoufee today. How are things in Teads area this morning?
When I make my grow chambers I am going to run these lights on 240W. Growmau5 says the drivers barely get hit on 240. Even on 120V they are not as hot as an HID ballast. They run so efficiently. I am so excited to get a room full of these. My cooking costs will go way down.
As for power conversion these drivers run about 93% on 120v and 94-96% on 240V.
Shiggity with his Star Trek futuristic panels, .
Man things are humming along out your way man! Seems that the whole gang has some crazy kind of light stuff going on. Shiggity with his Star Trek futuristic panels, Sue with the Timber gear and then Tead man with his HID LED mashup. Looking real good. We still have some grow room work to do or did that get done this weekend? Should be able to help out with that.
Put your hand over your heart when you invoke the name of Star Trek!

I might cut some in 1/2 to make smaller pots.
Flat caps - nice! So many of the end caps are rounded.
