Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I have taken a few samples of the Afghani and the Blue Moon from the last harvest. I have both bud and cob from them. The cob is hands down crazy better. A few hits of that and you are high as giraffe balls. Chew .5 grams and you are set for 5 hours, your face will hurt from the perma-grin.

“Perma-grin.” What an excellent descriptive. Sent me reaching for my cobs to start the day with a good chew of DDA. :slide:

I started chewing at 9:30. I always hear Tangwena inside my head warning me to “start chewing before 9:30 AM if you hope to be falling asleep around 9:30 PM.”

Amen to that! :laughtwo: I’ve figured out that no matter what we do, within reasonable limits mind you, we get stellar results.

This one looks like she’s gonna come out looking more like a ruby when she’s done. Absolutely fascinating to watch.

Guys....has @Duggan even stuck his nose into this room? Surely he’d appreciate the smoothness of the draw and the enhanced euphoria. With the beasts he brings to harvest on a regular basis he surely has some to spare for an experiment.
Hey there Sue, no, I don’t think Duggs has been over here. I agree that he would probably love the results from making a cob or two! In fact, I’m starting to wonder if I shouldn’t just cob all of my harvests here out. I mean, I find myself reaching for the cob more and more. Such a great high, and strains that make me a bit fuzzy headed with flower, so far don’t seem to do that once cobbed. The high is better, deeper and longer lasting... crazy smooth... I feel so privileged being able to make and enjoy these. Thanks Sue and Tangwena!!

Hello all, just wanted to share these two cobs... both destroyer cobs, one light and one dark.

I’ll go ahead and say the dark one is great, as is the lighter one. Both have the same general effects on me, but the dark one seems to be a bit more narcotic but not to the point it makes you sleepy or tired. Both are very smooth, and quite potent at that!
The lighter one has lost the fruity smell and it has gone more of a fuel smell. The dark one I don’t think I can describe well... it’s musky and well... dark. I don’t know how to describe it but it is still a pleasant smell... I always just want to eat it when I smell them!

Unfortunately it looks like I have a small spot of mycelium fungi growing in the lighter one. I didn’t open it for a few weeks there... lesson learned! Since it’s not a harmful mold, could I leave it and just reseal it? Or will it get funky?
Light one:

Dark one:

As you can see I cut the ends off, I did that so I could continue to use the same bag to seal it up in. Crazy how fat that cola was to start... now look at it!

yum, that dark cob looks very nice, and I know the smell you are trying to describe, I'm struggling to describe it too, not quite fruity with kind of earthy undertones so far, but like all of them it will change as they cure.

One of my cobs developed a bit of white mold or something on it, I ignored it for too long and it was curing in too low a temp with much too high moisture content, anyway I had some 99.9 iso alcohol and gave the infected area a quick dab of iso with a small paintbrush, it seemed to instantly vaporize/kill/dissolve the mold and also dried off pretty quick. I vac'd it back up and all was well. kept a close eye on it and the only white stuff that ever came back was thc crystals

worth a try.

Excellent Pyr0! That was exactly what I was about to suggest.

Lovely @dajerm119! That smell is a tough one to tack down. :laughtwo:

Brix turned a friend of his on to the cob experience today, starting this high-tolerance man on to a 0.3 gr slice of a Katsu Bubba x Blueberry Temple cob coming up on a four-month cure. His friend chewed it as instructed and then stuck around for almost an hour visiting, as he got progressively higher and higher. Lol!

It’s such fun to watch a newbie indulge, isn’t it? :battingeyelashes:

Before he left he made sure to pick up more of that delightfully euphoric cob to take home and experiment with. This is a gentleman working his way off joints or a pipe as a primary means of administration, and had turned to capsules of infused oil.

He just crossed over into a new reality, and he simply doesn’t realize it yet. Lol!

Me? Both the lovely hostess and I chewed DDA cob this morning and we’ve been deliciously buzzed all day. They energize me, and the DDA seems to make me express in creative mode. It’s been a busy day. I’ll sleep like a baby tonight and take a break from cobs tomorrow. I smoke much less when I chew cob.

Life is sweet. :slide:

Awesome, I will give that a try later today. I left them out to dry for a couple hours and when I went to find the mold it had dried up! But maybe I can find it now that its been sealed up over night...

Thank you both for the kind words! Maybe I will reopen the dark cob and take a sample today...

Looking good brother drying them further before re sealing them will fix the mold. It means they are too damp.
Once the fermentation period is over you only need trace moisture.
Its a good idea using the alcohol to kill the surface mold as Pyro said never thought of that myself.
Otherwise the colas look crazy good but still need another month minimum to finish the cure perfectly.

1. Awesome thread - I actually signed up because of how long I spent reading this thread and didn’t want to lose it. In fact, is there anyway to print a thread in it’s entirety? (I am on my phone and can’t see a way to do so).

2. Has anyone used a cob to make edibles? I am specifically thinking of philly_bluntsss reddit post from a few years back on cannabutter. Would it destroy the effects to put it through the process of grinding it, boil, ice bath, French press w/ butter over 24 hrs, fridge? I see that chewing it, tea’ing it (word?) and swallowing remains is the preferred method but just curious.

Sorry if all that has been covered and if there is any issue because I haven’t introduced myself yet. I don’t want to let my question slip because if I do my ADD may make sure it is gone forever.

:welcome: MidtownUniform. We’re glad to have you join the fun.

I’m certain there’d be no loss of effectiveness of the cannabinoids and terpenes when processed into oil that could be used for edibles. One could also grind finely and not strain for those edibles, and in so doing you lose no cannabinoids at all.

Oldbear, in particular, has explored cooking cob bits in oil for edible consumption.

I know there are members of Tangwena’s original thread over at IC that’ve processed cobs into oils. I haven’t tried myself yet because I simply chew for edible effect, but it’s in the plans to make some concentrated cannabis oil (CCO) with a cob, just haven’t nailed down the schedule yet.

Thanks Sue, I can’t wait to hear how that goes.

I would be a little afraid of how long the high might actually last considering the run time seems to already be fairly extended. After reading some of those experiences posted in screenshots, I would also be scared of just how high consuming in edibles would make you.

That said, I am dying to try it.

Hey everyone, I hope you are all having a great day.
I just have a question about cobs... yesterday I cut off a price of Panama cob from back in October of last year. While the smell is awesome, as is the high... it seems to have a very musky...? moldy...? After taste.
Now I will say that the last 10 grams or so of the Panama flower did have this same strange taste... just curious if any of you have run into this and what the deal is. No visible signs of mold or mildew... on the flower or the cobs.

So that Destroyer cob that had a bit of white mold on it... I had already sealed it up before I got a reply so I left it. Cause I had left it out to dry for several hours before sealing again and the mold had dried up and disappeared. I reopened it today and no signs of that mold at all. But I am still drying it for a few hours along with the dark one. Just thought I’d update you guys on that.

Thanks Tang... sorry for the late reply. I think that mold was only cause i hadn’t opened it in weeks. Weird how dry it really was... the lower buds I snapped off for a test and they were so dry they ground into dry powder. Anyway, the mold had dried up so I reseals it, opened today and it still looks good. I’ll leave it out and reseal at bedtime.

Hi Midtown welcome to this great place.

I use fine ground cob is all sorts of edible things - soups, stews, salads, etc - any situation where you might use spices or salt/pepper. It also works well in baking.

Ive also used fine ground cob in edible oil extractions. It works well but my conclusion is its easier to use flowers and sugar leaves for decarb and extractions. Give it a try though to see how you like it. 1 gram in 20 ml of oil is a good sample.

The chemistry in cob production I dont understand. There is no decarb with heat step but clearly the cannbinoids are activated. Its magic :thumb:

One time mold happened in my cob.(busted seal).Simply wiped it off let it dry for a day and resealed.Seems perfect ?
Hey there Kismet, so you don't get any musky after taste with that cob? I think its just the panama... I will see soon enough if the other cobs have this as well. But so far they taste totally "normal"

@dajerm119, your olfactory system is directly wired to the limbic system which in turn has receptor groups with your endocrine and endocannabinoid systems. These vital connections are to warn you about consuming anything your cells feel is dangerous to their happy survival.

I don’t recommend anyone ignore a warning bell in the gray matter when they smell something. Having said that, cobs have a weird smell and taste to begin with. Fermented buds are just odd to the olfactory system, and your cells may not be feeling as excited about this one, for whatever reason.

Since you tried it, how did it effect you?

Today is the day....

The Carnival cola’s been 6 days in fermentation. I was hoping for a golden cure, but I can see I’ll have to learn to let the buds dry just a wee bit more. The buds were sopping wet coming out of the bag, down almost 2 grams of water weight.

It’s more red than golden, and stinks like a cob. :blunt:

Things got oozy. :battingeyelashes:

The shiny side. :cheesygrinsmiley:

It’ll dry to the touch and then back into the bag to begin the cure.

Gosh.... I love what we do. :slide:

Hi my friend I have used cobs to make oil for years and the ONLY problem with it in using it, is its very hard to not overdose. The amount you need is so small that even slightly over will be too strong.
I also extracted in coco butter but the high while good seems incomplete it has lost something.

Smoking the oil it is easier to limit the dose but in my past experience its still extreme as it can be a fast creeper effect by the time your into the 3 rd drag its way too late.

Chewing the weighed cob pieces is by far the easiest way to regulate the dose.
The cob ground up can be smoked, chewed, added to drinks or food in the usual way, any way that gets you high with hash or buds works just fine its a universal product.

In my experience and for my taste chewing the raw cob is the best high and less can be more if its the right cob.
I use 0.1g to 0.25g to get high all day 0.5g if I want to leave this planet for short trips into wonderland but everyone needs to find their own preferred dose and that varies depending on the strength obviously.
