Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Hello. I am totally new here and this is my first post. I stumbled upon this thread because I was looking into whether you could ferment the roots, like you can with things like turmeric. I got very excited when I found this thread though and have been reading through some of the posts to learn more. The day before yesterday. I made my first cobs - Durban Poison, Pineapple Purps, Lemon Haze and Grapefruit Haze. I thought I would be able to use the Intant Pot as a sous vide. That didn’t work very well, as I could not get the temperature down low enough. Have gotten rid of all my mats, so that was out. I ended up putting a pot filled with water and the cobs near a radiator. Unfortunately, the temperature has been fluctuating between 38 degrees and 45 degrees. Does anyone think this will make a big difference? The cobs have been in there for about 30 hours now. Also, I saw in one post that someone used a food dehydrator. I don’t have one, but have been meaning to get one. Plus it looks like you can keep it at an exact temperature. Any advice would be appreciated. Attached are some photos of my cobs before they went in to sweat.

Hi and welcome to 420 Magazine
I will call in @Van Stank @SweetSue and the rest to help you out

If the temperature fluctuates it will take a bit longer sweat but as long as it doesn’t dry out it should be fine, in my experience at least.

I use a food dehydrator, it works great I did have to calibrate it though, by putting a thermometer in it and adjusting the dial based off that and not the dials numbers.

Hey ArtMonkey just like you I've been following this thread with interest, and today I also joined the cob club.

Just the one for now, but that was the whole plant :p:rolleyes::D. 32g going in, had her hanging for a couple of days. Using parchment paper, as I haven't got my hands on any corn husks yet.

Really excited to see how this goes.

Cheers Sweetsue, Tang, and everybody else

Thanks @DrDoob. When you use the food dehydrator, did you have to wrap the cobs in the vacuum seal or just put the right in? Also, can you recommend a good dehydrator?

I think you should be good with those temps. You might have to run them a bit longer to get the effects if they were at a steady temp a bit higher. I would go with what you have, and give them a try and see how they turn out. Only one way to know if it worked well right? Oh and welcome to this crazy adventure.

Looks good! A little temperature fluctuation wont hurt. Are you seeing sweat/ condensation inside the bags?
I have not taken them out. They were in for 40 hours! There was no condensation as far as I could see, so I didn’t open the bag. I am attaching some cu photos of after the sweat. They are now in a place that is 26 degrees. Pics 1+2 - Grapefruit Hz, 3+4 - Lemon Haze, 5+6 - Pineapple Purps, 7+8 Durban Poison

Hi @ArtMonkey welcome to the forum and the world of cobbing! I made some cob using parchment paper and mine didn't visibly sweat either. When I unwrapped them though there was a lot of wet inside. I then noticed that my parchment paper had a plastic or waxy liner on the inside. I think that prevented the moisture from oozing out. I've been foregoing the wrap and just putting my cobs in the vacuum bag with a piece of paper towel in there to absorb the ooze.

If I may answer this for you from the color they have started fermenting alright. Keep them sealed like they are for a week at room temps if you dont have a warm heat source (dehydrator) they will just take a little longer.
After a week open the bags and allow them to dry to the touch then re seal them for another week.
After that dry them again to the touch then re seal for a month and they will be done.
Nice strains to use you should get some awesome results. Good on you for giving it a go my friend.

Oh yeah!
Did you get your hands on any of the A5 x Malawi testers? Man, you talk about great weed, that stuff will knock your socks off. I had to test it and it came back at 28.9%. Bad thing is I didn't cob any, I was out of town while they were on the rack and they got too dry to cob. Next run I will for sure. Dubi just sent me some A5 x Panama and Zamaldelica Elite x Panama Goddess tester too.

Welcome to the cobbing adventure @ArtMonkey, @Piña Delores , and @RainyNumbers :hugs: Wow! Three new converts in one day @tangwena. :yahoo:

And Happy Thanksgiving to all of you celebrating. I don’t know about you, but I started the day with a small chew, this one made with my delicious Dark Devil Auto. Yum!

Hey Tang,

question for ya, since you are kinda our Jedi Master. Do you know if the act of cobbing changes the smell profile on cobs so that K9s no longer hit on it? Just curious.....as traveling with cannabis outside my legal state is always a worry. But if perhaps I knew if K9s hit on it, the cobs might make a great alternative to straight flower!

In the US they stopped training the K9s to hit on cannabis a couple years back Van. I like Tang’s idea of double bagged with perfume in the outer bag. Thankfully I won’t have to try this. When I travel next week it’ll be to Doob’s house and I’ll have a supply of cannabis available.

Someday we’ll be free to carry it anywhere. I personally can’t wait for that blissful moment when the powers that be accept that THC isn’t something to be afraid of.

Hey Tang, yes sir... that’s what I was thinking as well. I bet in a couple/few months, they will be even better. I love the high chewed, just want it to hit me harder... which it may with time.
I mean I could just chew more, but there goes my tolerance... up up up

I think you’re kinda spoiled by the shroms- you lucky man - and you’re chasing the wrong kinda high, but there’s also the intensity that comes with curing, and that’s something we have yet to get to. Give it time and keep trying.

You mention the pleasurable experience of the buzz, and as I was reading your posts to BrixNewb’s lovely partner we got to talking. She’s new to the experience of cobs, but she’s quite enthusiastic about the energetic sense of “All is well” that comes with them, and I’d have to admit that the sense of the universe smiling with you is one of the reasons I chew.

I have yet to try shroms. That’s something I’ll be making a priority. Twice in a week the idea has jumped to the front of the line. I’ll take that as a sign. Lol!

Howdy everybody! I know Tang from anither forum and wanted to check out what you all have been up to over here. Great spirit of learning and innovation. Tang is a patient and tireless prophet of the cob. Pretty wicked sense of humor but a good heart.

I want to focus on legal CBD flowers and see where it goes. I am not aware of this being done on other forums. I can see aroma and flavor improving big time. Where it realky gets fascinating to me is what happens with psychoactivity. Will it increase focus and energy with certain terpenes and strains? Will nighttime sedation and pain reduction increase in others?

Wow! I’d like to see the effects of cobbing on CBD chemovars too. We’ve ramped up the interest in indicas, since so many grow them, but so far I don’t recall anyone jumping in with CBD dominants. Do you have any yourself to work with?

We do have a community grow thread dedicated to high CBD chemovars you might be interested in. CBD Joy I bet you could get someone over there excited about cobbing. Lol!

Might as well be me. Hahahaha:slide:

At least it’s not wasted Kismet. You should still be able to smoke it.

Hey there Sue! Just wanted to let you know, last night I was like... man I wish I had something different to smoke besides this Panama flower. I was like, its great but I just want something a bit different. Then I remembered I had taken my first cob, from August, after it was pretty well cured and I wanted to dry it more, I broke the whole thing up and put it in a small glass jar. Well that day when I smoked some, it was good but not great. But wow, last night... it has gotten much stronger. It smell so sweet, basically like the flower but WAY sweeter, so smooth and so tasty!! I was blown away, only had one small bowl and I was done! Can hardly wait to try the new cobs after the new year!

Yes, the shrooms... 37 and I still think of them often. So earlier in the year I decided I would start having a trip here and there. I definitely dont regret that... almost forgot how much I loved them. Talk about a wrapped in love and wellbeing feeling, its just so awesome. If you want or need any links and such, feel free to send a PM!
