Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I'm not expecting much so i might try a bit more than just those scraggly bits. Has everyone had a tester before it was properly dried? Lol can't help ourselves can we

Go for it, you need to sample it at various stages so you know how it improves, we need to do this, lol
Also, it may not be as strong as you hope from reading some of the smoke reports, so take a little bit extra :ganjamon:

Off to a poor start with my first cobbing attempt.

This morning I found the temp had only reached 102f. I had a rather large cooler that I opted to use and I think the sheer volume has probably overwhelmed the capability of the heat mat. I've laid towels over the mat, cob and probe now to help compensate. Prior to my next go, I'll need to get off my lazy ass and waddle up to Wally World and spring for a couple of bux for a small styrofoam cooler!

More concerning, I found the bag containing the cob had lost its seal! :( Note to self: ALWAYS double seal seams!

Not sure what to do to recover. I have resealed it but should I start the 24 hr countdown again or just complete the initial sweat period?

I bet there isn’t much of a difference between 102° and 104°. I’d just start the fermenting stage now if I was you. The broken seal shouldn’t be a problem if there isn’t any mold already, just dry it out a bit before you (double) seal it back up.

How do you double seal a bag? I've seen that mentioned before, but have no idea how to do it.

My vacuum sealer has two buttons “seal only” and “vacuum seal” I after use the “vacuum seal” button I just pull the bag out evenly about a 1/4” to 1/2” and press the “seal only” button.

Hmm. I'll have to play with that a bit. I have a Foodsaver vacuum, and it does have a seal only button that I use to close the bottom of my bag.

I normally push the bag in until it starts pumping or sealing. I've never tried sealing when it wasn't pushed in all of the way.

Thanks!

Your cob should be fine. I have had them get real loose after the sweat. I think its the fermentation beginning. Unlike wine where the bubbles float off ours are trapped in bag, I think. This would cause it to loosen up.

Thanx for the encouragement.

Definitely under went some changes overnight. This morning when I resealed it, it compressed significantly more than the first go round.

Never saw any collection of moisture. Not sure if that's due to my material being too dry or possibly attributable to the broken seal occurring during the night.

I put the mat, cob and sensor inside an old insulated shopping bag I found and then placed that into my cooler. The temp jumped up to the preset 105f and has remained dead steady all day.

Have now dropped the thermostat down to 85f and the temp is slowly dropping inside the cooler. That's a total of about 30 hrs of sweat albeit only 7 hrs for sure under sealed condition. Well see.

As far as I understand it the vacuum sealing is just to prevent mold so if you don’t already have it you should be totally fine. I had two break the seal before I started double sealing and they came out fine. Although mine did happen during the fermenting stage not the initial sweat.

Hey guys I just pulled out my cob to see how it's going and I'm just going to let it dry (smells pretty nice but could be much better with some proper flowers haha). Next stage is curing and i think because i fermented for such a short period I'll try and keep the cure to a minimum of 2 months+. I'm also having that little tester I said i would, tastes crappy but i think i'm already starting to feel it a little, not even 10 minutes in so I'll wait a good 90 minutes and report back with the effects. Taste needs to be improved with better quality material definitely.

Let me know what you guys think :)
