Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Mack used it with her cobs, and she used the non-stick side to the cob. I personally lack the plant material to try yet - still a few weeks out. Lol!

I know I can’t be the only one of us anxiously waiting on the next harvest. :battingeyelashes::green_heart:

Anyway Magoo, Mack’ll probably be along any minute to fill in the blanks. When I get to playing I’ll take some detailed pictures.

Oops sorry for my tardiness.

I only use the Glad Press'n Seal to squish the buds into a cob. I lay a piece across my sushi rolling mat, sticky side down, and roll up the buds into a cob. I vacuum seal the cob "naked." I don't leave the cob rolled up in the press'n seal.

Of course, I've only used that technique twice, but it's easier to roll the cobs than using the corn husks. Others have been forgoing the husks, and I wanted to try doing that too.

Here is the White Widow cure's at 12 days. They smell great and are picking up a real nice golden brown color.

Now that's a fat bud. I haven't made my first cob yet so I could be way off but I thought cobbing meant rolling it into a cigar like shape, a long thinish tube. Wouldn't a huge mass like that produce an uneven temp and ferment? Unless it's wide and flat instead of fat and round.

Looking awesome man thats going to be golden when cured hang on to your socks when you try that gold.
I am in awe of the thought of that turning into a big sticky yellow loaf of dynamite. You must feel like a proud father watching that baby come of age.
Thats going to blow your mind when its finished, aromatic and tasty and kick ass to boot.

Sweet! :high-five:

How thick is it JustMeds?

Me too....except I can't remember schnitz. On the other hand tomorrow is 7/10 and I have dabs made from Panama. :bongrip:

And here I am with no concentrates on hand to celebrate. Oh well, I’ll have to make donwith cobs. :slide:

@Kismet, for rehydration you’re shooting for something in the neighborhood of 75% RH - so @Pennywise, I want to see how yours turns out at a lower point, in particular how strong a fragrance they give off coming out of the sweat at that moisture level.

As long as I get that sweet overlay I know I’m fermenting.

So Kismet, I found rehydration easier with the buds in a closed jar with a slice of apple suspended above the buds. It took mine overnight to get to my target level. I also dry low and slo, which retains so much more of the bud goodness that it makes this doable at all.

I haven’t tried it with line-dried. How did you dry the buds you’re thinking of rehydrating?

I’m going for an interview for a research program into the lifestyles of active seniors. Think I’ll pass on cobs today. Lol! A Carnival brownie or two will do me for the day. :battingeyelashes:

@MackMcMacMac, thanks for the clarification. I can see how it’d make the rolling process easier to do.

Paper bag in the fridge. Think i'll just wait for the clones to come in. They aren't to far out. After i wash them let them dry for a day or start cobbing?

So far I’ve been happiest with hanging for two days. It’s really an individual preference, and the plants all dry at their own rate. You want the point when the sugar leaves are just beginning to crisp, when you’d pluck a piece on the sly if you were low on stock or curious about the taste.

Well cobbers this is day 6 of the jar fermented buds. I opened them to dry and discovered several buds had started to mold. I pitched a few and cut the other bad parts off. The jar was definitely sealed, it gave a big sucking noise when I pulled the lid off. I don't know if the vacuum sealer just isn't strong enough to get all the air out or what but it looks like I won't be doing this method again with my current equipment. I have them out to dry now and am thinking I should just vac seal them in a bag for the cure, not sure though. Input appreciated.

Crud! I hate losing any to mold. How can we avoid that in future?

I’d seal them up for the cure Neiko.

Did you keep them sealed the whole time?

Mine are at 4 days of 80° after the 1 day at 104° and no sign of anything bad. I have changed the paper towel a few times and left them to dry out a bit a couple times. After reading your post I’m letting them air out right now.

Sorry to hear that. It does bring a couple of questions to mind. How full or tight was the buds in the jar? or where they very loose so as not to distort them? The thought process I have on this is the amount of air circulating around them. In the vac bags we pull out a very high percentage of the air even within the buds or cob as the bag crush'es down around it. In a more loose jar they would have more. Hope that makes sense. If so we may have all learned something from your failed test. I sure hope you don't take that the wrong way.

I opened them after a couple days of fermenting and let them dry a little and I add the paper towel back in because I was seeing a lot of moisture on the inside of the jar. Other than that they have been sealed. I should've done it more often I guess. They still smell good and I'll continue on but I think I'm going to put them in a bag and seal for the cure.

No not at all.
I used a quart mason jar and put what would amount to about a 1/2 oz in there so it was about 1/2 full. They were left loose for the sweat. I compacted them a little bit for the ferment but I have to lay the jar down to fit under my dome and they didn't stay compacted.
