Tales From The Krip!

DAY #38 OF 12/12 - QUICK UPDATE & A FEW MORE PICS

The colas are starting to pack on both some weight and some stank! :yummy: I noticed several of the colas leaning way over and I'll need to start breaking out the yo-yo's. They're also starting to smell pretty strong and I can notice it when I walk into the bedroom, which, I really don't mind, at all! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Here are a few pics from today:

THE SEED STASH

I finally decided to make a spreadsheet of my seed inventory so I didn't have to keep looking through jars every time I was thinking about popping more seeds.

I didn't list the bag seed, or a handful of seeds I have labelled with the strain but no breeder, and came up with 59 different strains and a total of 312 seeds!

And, that's after sending a dozen or two seeds I knew I'd never get to to a friend a few months ago.

I'm not sure why I even need more except that, when you look closely at the list, there are definitely a bunch of strains missing!

I think if I work hard, maybe expand the grow space a little, and stay healthy, I might be able to get these all grown out in the next 25 years, or so! :yahoo:

Here's the list (sorted alphabetically by breeder! :slide:):

Great set up. I recently had to pull back to simplicity, and although I miss the tents, I don't miss wondering how I'd explain three grow spaces in my living room. So easy to get carried away.

With my 5' tents (don't make that mistake - I forgot I'd be flowering) I ended up with an arrangement of chains looped through themselves with the lights hanging from S-hooks running through the chain. Quite a juggling act with the Advanced unit. The Budmaster is so lightweight it made that job easy. There should be a better way to make these adjustments, don't you think? Balancing an expensive piece of lighting just feels nuts.

I also do that major stripping of the lower branches. Then, just today, I'm running around doing some free fall research into live resins. There's a concern in Colo., I believe called Evolabs???, that does amazing live resin extractions. What they've discovered was that you get more oil from popcorn buds. I laughed right out loud when I read that. We spend all this energy and focus on getting big, thick colas and the highest concentration of the most potent cannabinoids is in the popcorn buds we aggressively discourage. Irony, huh? :laughtwo:

I'll be rethinking my cultivation techniques. You might want to look into this idea yourself.

Edit: It was popcorn buds and sugar leaves. Doc Bud told us about sugar leaves years ago. Any cultivator paying attention should have known about popcorn buds. Nose in front of my face.

just poked my nose is as i saw rhe thread pop up and come across this on the first page..

ive read a lot about popcorn bud and hoe to avoid, tho implementing the techniques to avoid is still something im getting to grips with lol

why has this not been discussed more though? i tried to find a discussion thread but havent managed to.
and so what is the best way to go about it with this little insight? dont fretover popcorn or are people still inclined to be avoiding them?
thx :)

If you could, just list a price next to each one and I'll start ordering from you. There are a quite a few I'd love to run. It looks like you are going to need more tents to get through that list. I'm also afraid to go through my seed stash. Every time I do I find something I forgot I had and some I wondering why I got in the 1st place.
I was trying to figure out a way to add "Buy Now" buttons to the list, but couldn't find a way to get it done! And, believe me, there are quite a few there I'd love to run, too!

All my popcorn goes into the "trim pile" for making RSO later, but I certainly don't TRY to grow popcorn and not sure any other grower does, either. I think Sister SweetSue was just pointing out the interesting fact that you get a higher yield on oil from the popcorn buds.

Nice collection Krip, you need some more Chems though! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks, Brother, and you're right! I'll have to add some to the want list with the Carnival, Mendo Purple Kush, Hindu Kush, and all the others!

I tried telling you!

Yeah, you did, Brother!
I just tend to think more like Brother Penny (see above) ...
It's not about what's on the list, it's about what's NOT on the list!

Exactly like now I’m thinking I don’t have any Duke Diamond. :thedoubletake:
I've seen some interesting stuff from him. I was looking at that Apollo 13 "Puff's Cut" which seems like a pretty quick finisher for a Sativa hybrid and Brother PotChimp pretty much as me sold on the A-13 with his awesome pheno! :yummy:

DISASTER STRIKES! :thedoubletake:

In my update on Monday I said:

The colas are starting to pack on both some weight and some stank! :yummy: I noticed several of the colas leaning way over and I'll need to start breaking out the yo-yo's.

Well, my lazy ass didn't do it and when I went to feed the Platinum Kush Breaths and opened the tent, I saw that a bunch of the colas had fallen over and, on their way down, took out a bunch of others. It was a real f'n mess!

That being said, I wrapped each plant with some gardening tape and yo-yo'd a bunch of colas and we should be OK.

Several colas did get supercropped along the way and my hands were dripping with resin by the time I was done. My only concern, right now, is possible mold issues due to my having wrapped the plants to hold the colas up.

Here's what the canopy looks like now:

In this pic, you can see a couple of the colas the got supercropped and are being supported with the gardening tape:

Even with all the chaos, the buds are still looking sweet! :yummy:

Next time I mention colas leaning over and needing to break out the yo-yo's, someone please give me a kick in the butt to do it instead of talking about it!

Happy Harvests!
