Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sue- Those mostly look like gnats (hard to tell in the pic), but have you taken a good look with magnification? Some look like they could be root aphids. I think I have aphids on the brain since I've been fighting them throughout my grow. So far nothing kills them - and I mean nothing. I'm waiting until my harvest is complete and then going nuclear on my grow room - then let it sit all summer to detox.

I'm pretty sure these are regular fungus gnats loving my mulch layer. I'll look more closely after reading your comment. They aren't having any effect on the plants in the pots though, and I assume they would were they root aphids? I wish you luck in your eradication.

Chances are, they are FG. I hope so for you and your little ladies. They look somewhat alike, but FG have longer pointy butts. RA have shorter rounder butts.

It takes a while for them to cause a problem, but by then they are well-established and devastating. They are both winged a un-winged. The winged version are no big deal, except they spread. The others, in the soil, are the big problem. If you can get to them early, you have a chance, which is why I brought it up. The down side is, nothing organic stops them. Most things (essential oils, pyrethrin, etc.) knock them back, but the ones that survive become relatively immune almost instantly. Little bastards.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I really appreciate the links, 36. Tried almost all. None of them work well.
So far I've used ladybugs (firtst), nematodes, garlic, two types of pyrethrum, neem, sierra natural 203, and azatrol. Thease all help short term, but do almost as much damage to the plants (if they are going to be effective) as they do to the aphids. I'm about to use acephate, but only after harvest. I'll use it with sulfur to try and kill any and everything in the room. Let sit empty for a couple of months. Then bleach.

What a pain Major. Once you purge the area you can start anew. You were gifted these in a clone, weren't you?

Probably - at least that's my assumption. Either they came with a clone or were in the medium. I'd MUCH rather grow from seed, but I'm all about keeping it legal. I have too much to lose and too many people who would be hurt if I got busted. By hurt, I mean lose their livelihood. Buying a clone is legal here. Seeds are not. WTF? Someday I'll find some seeds to grow... Happy days ahead!

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Those look like "fruit-fly" "beer bug" "garbage" gnats from my region. I have had fungus gnats before in my grow. Here the fungus gnats are about 1/2" long and look like wasp when they hatch. There are several different types throughout the world though. I think you just have an annoying gnat. As tiny as they are, they will not eat roots.

Hey there SS - I probably just got myself thrown off the list but I couldn't let that Duty Panty person go without the proper spanking for hitting you on your grow methods.

BTW - I love your new lighting ... I think you will be happy. This is my first 100% LED grow this run and I'm seeing benefits not any negatives comparo to HID. They are subtle but they are there. I've got 2 450w and a 900w led in my flower tent - after a few weeks break-in they are using more and more wattage so the efficiency after break in has actually increased with my lights over time. Another bonus and I'm seeing more buds earlier and plants are stacking up the nugs too.

So wattage use started out right around 50% - 1800w of light uses 900w of power, over time (say a few weeks) my meter is reading 1150w being used. The WATT reading is the POWER the light is actually putting out by both heat and light energy. Since we know LED lights are not as hot there's more energy going into the lighting portion of the power usage. In my case since I monitor temps the temps remain same, wattage increase = more useable light energy.

So far for me - with the LOS soil AND the LED lighting - I'm hitting it hard my girls are the healthiest I've ever seen. It's all about dialing it in... lager containers really really helped me and the LOS with Kashi and top mulch/ACT teas ... WE are on to something special, I can feel it and I can see it in your plants too. You have a couple of green thumbs and a few green fingers too, maybe even a green arm.

There's no substitute for talent girl, don't let ANYONE tell you different. You got it in spades (& fan leaves).

I'm going to say this and I mean it.

I'm sooo very sorry you were getting dissed over on 36's journal.

You have a special place in my heart along with your best friend and man in your world Dale. You tell him the folks at 420mag are preying for his fast recovery and we are hoping and preying he's back home ASAP where he belongs.

OK rant over.. hahaha!! Nice buds there Budlette !!

Cheers,
BB

Hey BB, thank you so much for the insight into the lights. I instinctively felt that the switch to LED wasn't going to come with some of the problems we see with grows that aren't using living organic soil. We pack so much goodness into our soils that the micro herd have no problem overcoming those challenges. This is a good thing, because at this point no one knows for certain why the LEDs affect plants the way we see and hear from others. Working with LOS we don't see deficiencies. They simply don't exist. I chalk it up to intense study. :laughtwo: We figure if we're going to raise soil like a pet we'd better try to understand what's going on there. It gives us a nice edge IMHO.

I'm blushing over the compliments BB. Thank you for your faith in my abilities. Most of what I do is love, you know. The soil does all the real work, as you well know. Build a better soil, make your life easier. Finding the SWICK method made a tremendous difference and, I believe, was a key element to my success in my initial grow.

And thank you for having my back BB. Dutty will be Dutty. I chose not to be offended by his offensive behavior. He's allowed to be human too. I raised one so similar in nature that the entire event bemused me and made me wish my son would get off his butt and call home already. A mother shouldn't have to go through what I'm facing without her son at her side, even if it has to be limited to emotional support by phone. Life is too short.

Sorry, maternal slip there. That pain is too much to approach. Can't go there now.

Now that my little Devil has learned how to push those leaves out I'm looking forward to watching her do better than my CFL run. I'll be expanding to a 4x4 tent when my soil is cooked, so lots of changes going on around here. I can see I'll have to start putting money in a fund to finance another light before long. The inevitable upgrade. I've just started with this light and already I'm ready to increase those lumens. It never stops, does it? :laughtwo::green_heart:

I'll be sure to pass your message on to Dale. Things are still in limbo. A week in hospital and no answers at all to explain the persistent nausea. My daughter and I were having dinner out tonight and were discussing our sense that he may not pull through here. We've always laughed that he was like a cat with nine lives, but this one feels ominously different. It's not going the way we'd all hoped. May we please be wrong. Deep breath...... Let it out.

You all need to know how valuable you are to me at this time. In moments of crisis I have a deep need to reach beyond my own crazy life and make a positive influence in other lives. This place was just what the doctor ordered. It even has a DrZiggy! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thank you all for helping me to hold it all together.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

De nada...

I was chatting with the genetics company. They are salivating here. If our sweet sue is a girl, I will make clones, get a batch of them going, and then take 1 and give it C.S., and generate a bunch of Fem seeds for sharing.

Sweet80'sSue will then have clones sold at my local dispensary to get the name into the NorCal lexicon locally. These seeds are primarily Humboldt stuff from the 80's so interested in what she ends up looking like.
This is very cool Aki, SweetSue is on the verge of going National maybe International Sweet80'sSue!! How cool is that. This journal and 420Magazine forum is so cool. The amount of info here is awesome and the community is ridiculous in the best of ways sharing the love

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

It's been a long and frustrating day. Still no answers on Dale's latest mystery challenge. We've had Endocronology, Nephrology, infectious Diseases, Gastro-Intestinal, and Cardiology involved. He's been poked, prodded, x-rayed, CT Scanned, endoscoped and EKG'd almost to death and no answer has appeared. I can see he's losing the will to keep going. This sucks.

It's midnight and I just took the brownies out of the oven. Life continues to click along despite the madness. Today I realized that I hadn't paid our cable bill. Haven't watched any TV since he went into the hospital so it never crossed my mind. That alerted me though and I checked to discover I hadn't taken care of all the utilities this month, and I take care of that for three households. Geez girl. Get a grip.

I'm so thankful that this soil I play in is so healthy and balanced that I don't have to worry about my little Devil. She's happy and healthy herself. That's good, because I have precious little time to devote to her. She's going to have to get by without my doting until I can bring Dale home. I take time in the morning to let her know how special she is.

Wow! Gunshot in the distance. Sometimes this neighborhood gets edgy, but we're on the third floor of a secure building with super solid brick walls and thick steel doors. I don't worry about it. I don't go out after dark either, but that's just smart urban living. I'm actually very well known hereabouts and highly respected, so I feel pretty safe. The loved part goes without question. I spread that love all over my end of the world too. People respond well to loving.

Midnight and I'm just now able to stop and relax myself. The Bomb it is.

Hang in their Sue. Everyone is in your and Dales corner. May the frosty meds help you to relax.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Im sorry to hear youve had a tough day. I know what its like to have a loved one in a hospital bed and not know what put him there. Im sending up special prayers for him, and you too, every day. We are here for you.

At least you have some herbal relaxation to help you relax.

Glass Pipe and a Frosty Nug... Should be a country song...lol

Wish I could taste that. Looks great.

Thank you all. The meds are helping immensely. This strain puts me in an optimistic frame of mind every time. As the cure progresses it takes on more of the chamomile taste. It's so fascinating the way the terpenes keep changing. It's definitely chamomile I'm smelling and tasting. I'm wondering how much different the tones would be grown in another medium. I plan to do that with the HB soil, so we shall see. Wonder what strain? It would make more sense to do that with decent seeds, and I have that on hand (unbelievably so). Oooo, the mind begins to race. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Know what I really like? It's been curing for almost 5 weeks, and when I break a fragment off and drop it into the bowl it sticks to my fingers. After I shake it off my fingers and into the bowl my finger tips are all sticky. I'm five "cannabis fragments" in, the equivalent of a bowl, and this was much harder to type than when I started. Took just a bit longer. LOL!

LOS baby. :slide:

Darn you GG! Now It will start to write itself in my head!:rofl::rofl:

I was raised on country music. Back in the 60s my older brother fell in love with the genre and filled the house with all the oldies.

"Our little boy is four years old, and quite a little man....." Good Lord GhettoGro, you're going to have me looking up songs on YouTube.

Patsy Cline. I wanted to be that voice. I used to sing "Crazy" and make you cry. Sometimes I miss the voice.

Big share: my favorite songs growing up.
- As a young girl, Nat King Cole, "Almost Like Being In Love".
- As a young teen, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
- As a late teen, Frank Sinatra, "Strangers In The Night".

I've always been a big fan of music across the spectrum. If it has a beat and some singable lyrics, I'm all over it. These were the songs that obsessed me in their times.

Gosh, you can't tell I'm lonely here, can you? Believe it or not, I married a man of fewer than few words. Ha!

You might try OMRI listed "Spinosad" I had thrips and used that per application, spray under and on top of leaves until completely drenched wait 4 days and do it again, I did it one more time just in case 4 more days later and haven't seen one since about a year now. Also try the mosquito bits in the pot trays it activates with water. Has some type of tiny bug that eats them from the inside out called Bacsillyious Thurengenisisis err something like that BT for short. works well for Gnats, I haven't see any around here for a year or so. :)

I have the dunks. Just keep forgetting to water because I have the SWICK. :laughtwo: I've also sprinkled some over the surfaces, but I wasn't being consistent about the drenches and teas lately. Must amend that.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Dunks in the SWICK?

What about trying that?

I do think you will see a lot less gnats if you do nothing, as time goes on. That being said, I've had them in my living room before and they get annoying pretty quick.

If you could put some of your worm bin outdoors when the weathers nice you'll "trap" some predator mites and centipedes and you can then get them into your containers eventually. Once you bring them in they won't ever want to leave unless somehow your house becomes completely gnat free. When prey is out of control introduce more predators. :) help balance it out.
