Thanks. That was easier to follow. There's hope for me yet.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

What's the exact current genetics behind this?
Is it an ibl? S1 currently?

Colloidal silver is only going to produce female pollen technically.

What ppm c.s. You thinking?

So your goal is a s1.

I have a couple of hundred to maybe a thousand seeds in the 1980's seed bank that was donated to me by my future SiL before he and my daughter realized they had started a family.

I am going to ship some seeds to the Genetics company. I will continue to play with these old seeds, and get a happy healthy strain or two going. However to start. we have one single plant from the seed bank growing. I killed a bunch of seeds and stopped.

I am willing to share some from it, if you document the seeds and keep them branded as a "Sweet80sSue" brand. I have more then enough seeds to share. WE have 16 strains in total. I have some old school names like Thai 86, and Woahaken Sative 1980, and pretty much the rest of the names are the source of the seeds "Uncle Bobs Hidden jar" type names. Not exactly good for letting us know what we have.

All I ask in return, is female seeds of your favorite, to grow for my personal consumption, and if you like what you grow, help in growing a throw back strain of what I think of as non GMO weed. Ya, its not 21-29% THC. Its the stuff we grew up smoking. I wouldnt mind some of that stuff again. Thats the idea here.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I'd like us to work together to see if there's any way to get a HB no-till. Six runs is impressive, but I think it could be six years. I don't understand the kit enough yet to figure out how, but my gut says there must be a way. The testing thing is a challenge, I'll grant you that. I'd like to see how long we could keep one running.

Question: do I need to turn the HB soil while it cooks?

No need to turn the soil, unless you add some leaf material to it on subsequent runs. Try to only add leaves from plants grown in the soil. It "tunes" the soil....very interesting.

As for doing a no-till I can see why you might do that on a quarter acre, but I'm really having trouble seeing it in small containers. Perhaps if I ever get my raised bed project done that might be a good place to do a no-till?

I'd like to try some green mulch and try some of those teas too.....

1/4 acre you say. I need to pm you concerning my future vines I shall plant. Thinking one kind of grape first.

The teas are so rich in micro nutrients. That comfrey....... I've seen fabulous grows using only comfrey that produced in no-till containers without any deficiencies for years. I've also seen at least one gardener who has maintained a healthy no-till grow using 3 gallon pots, so the potential is much more than one would expect in containers. It's much more labor intensive in smaller pots, but entirely possible. It's all in learning the needs of your pots and the values of the amendments. Finding that balance.

I want to get to 20 gallon minimums. Yeah.

Already in the works. :slide:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sweetsue..what type of worms can I put into my larger pots?

I would say earthworms. In nature, the red wigglers are the top feeder worms (top 3" of soil, in general).
Earthworms (fishing worms) dig deeper and are likely to tunnel throughout the pot rather than just the top of it.
Plus with wigglers you would need to feed them something.

So bottom line, red wigglers are composters, earthworms are tunnelers and soil breaker-uppers.

At least that's my understanding at the moment.

Edit to add: I see that SSue and 36grow answered it already.
Damn, 4 pages to catch up from just overnight. LoL

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

are any of those bait worms? I ask because I can get them quickly if they're bait worm from a tackle shop. In 2 weeks or so, I can gather

Both RWs and NCs are commonly sold as bait (along with meal worms). Wigglers eat more per body weight and live higher up (top 6-12" or so). Crawlers typically live deeper and eat more per worm (much bigger). They can make it tough for red wigglers so I'd stick with one or the other. In pots, I think wigglers are the best bet, but have nothing to back up my claim - just a hunch. It really depends on what your goals are with them and the environment they are in. Either should be fine, IMO.

random thoughts

Sometimes I get high and read my posts and laugh right out loud.

I am so glad you guys find my emotional roller coaster, love filled and joyful ramblings bearable.

I carry this virtual neighborhood with me every where I go, freely accessible with a few taps, and just as easily put away for later when life calls. I almost wrote "life and duty" there, but that made me pause and ask myself how that word applied here? I don't do things for "duty". I do things out of love. It's more than duty could ever approach. My entire adult life has been a journey to being an open expression of love and forgiveness.

Be careful what you seek. This is not, nor has it ever been an easy path. I believe in personal responsibility. I believe you are where you are in life because of the personal choices you make. One of my other beliefs is best summed up in the words I told Dale when he lost his first job within weeks of moving in with me.

"Your value is not determined by the amount of money you do or do not bring into this home."

So on the surface, in a profit-driven society, I obviously made some poor choices to have found myself at the age of 61 at the bottom of the economic ladder and no emergency fund to fall back on.

And you'd be wrong. Open the door of my home and step over that threshold, and you are enveloped in the peacefulness that has always been the hallmark of my home - our home. Years spent struggling financially, but filled with joy and laughter and the persistent and unquenchable belief that better financial days may lie ahead, but you can't begin to beat the loving going on right here and now

"Imagine it Baby. All this and money too!"

Always followed by a laughing embrace and a hearty kiss. For 34 years. Without fail, in good and bad.

I feel the same way about the way I garden. It's a tiny space, and compared to the bigger operations going on in rooms I frequent - and believe you me, I DO frequent quite a few - it appears to be sadly lacking, and yet in its initial run, my joyful embrace of growing this majestic species resulted in a very acceptable 4.5 ounces of the best I have ever smoked. Period. That means I'm not the lightweight that tiny closet initially suggests.

But, in all honesty I admit, it's the soil. Someone has to shout from the rooftops about how easy growing in Living Organic Soil is. How can you discover something this marvelous and keep it to yourselves? I know I can't. So I'll be that somebody, and I'll do the best job I can to not preach, but rather share the joy of building a healthy soil community, living in a custom-made and maintained paradise that grow unbelievably potent and delicious cannabis with almost NO effort on your part. Yes, I said delicious. This stuff gets better and tastier every day that passes. Amazing, how pronounced the terpenes have become. Taking the effort away actually gives better results.

Build a better soil. Make your life easier. Grow better meds with less effort.

I run up against the same resistance with Callanetics. But hey, just because you don't want to believe it doesn't make it less true. A healthy soil food web in a well-maintained environment will free you to actually be able to sit back and enjoy the show.

How nice that I have this forum to help me post the proof of my claims. I'd so much rather you be intrigued by my results. Then we can talk about making your life easier too. You deserve it.

Yeah, I get a little passionate. And I've gone on here long enough that I've missed my bus. :laughtwo: Ahh girl, take a couple more hits and get out the door. Put the neighborhood away until the bus ride. (I love personal hot spot:Love: )

See? How DO you all put up with me?:laughtwo::green_heart:

Thanks Sue!

Your random thoughts are a breath of fresh air here!

As life continues to pass us by hour by hour day by day. It's easy to get caught up in the little things. Often it's the little things that get under our skin more then others because we come across them more frequently.

Your wisdom and love are ever apparent. I visit your journal because I feel at peace and at one with the community here. Your input and even your random thoughts are enough to keep me entertained for hours. Without a motherly person in my life it's easy for me to find comfort in your words and embrace. You have lots of life experience and wisdom that It would be foolish for many of us to just pass it by... Maybe, it's selfishness that brings me back? I get as much out of you and your words as you get from us.... Don't stop doing what your doing. You're touching people every single day and there's something to be said about it, that goes far beyond member of the month!

Keep doing what you do Sue! I love it and you!!
Xoxo

Sue,

I posted this on 36 stream, but you might like to look into the info. Its about a new bio coating for seeds, that cause the plants to grow their own LOS so that the soil provides 50% of the currently required N.

N-Fix is a patented technology based on a beneficial bacteria Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd) for coating plant seeds in order to create a symbiotic relationship within the plant enabling it to substitute the nitrogen it normally takes up from the soil with atmospheric nitrogen – thus reducing dependency on nitrogen fertilisers.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 19

Back to the business of oohing and awwing. :laughtwo:

Today is Thursday --- OMG!! I've lost a day!!! WTH??? Breathe, girl. Breathe.

Let's try that again. :laughtwo:

Today is Friday, and I'm a day late on the enzyme tea. I put it in to bubble last night before building my new batch of LOS, and now it's ready to go.

image23057.jpg

The supplies stand in readiness.

image23056.jpg

The bubbling brew is strained into the watering can through the paint filter. The meshing of this inexpensive and easily obtained strainer keep the larger particulates out while freeing the enzymes and microbes you've energized. I like to think using rainwater gathered in a cache basin creates a bit of microbial life of its own too.

The recipe for this has become somewhat second nature to me now. I stopped measuring and now just eye it as I mix. A long wooden chop stick makes an excellent stir stick. The ingredients for today's enzyme tea:

- 1/8 cup malted barley grain, ground to a powder and bubbled overnight in approx. 5-6 cups of rainwater. Be sure to use a dark pitcher with a loose lid. Microbes are light sensitive. Strain into watering can. To this add

- 1/4 cup aloe vera juice

- about 1 Tablespoon reconstituted kelp meal

- a little less than half the lid full of Ful-Power

- top off with rainwater to make 1/2 gallon

Into the living room and pulling back the curtains, I reach under and click the light off to find

image23059.jpg

Isn't she absolutely lovely? How does she awaken this joy, just in being alive? She's my daily confirmation of the glorious power of life itself. That gnat on her leaf? More on that one later.

Look at the vigor already obvious in her! :circle-of-love:

image23060.jpg

You want to stir the tea every now and then to keep everything dispersed throughout the solution and not sinking to the bottom. You want it distributed widely and as evenly as brisk stirring can cause. Stir often.

image23061.jpg

Slowly watering between the two, I work for even distribution across the surface of the pot, trying not to miss any huge sections, but not really too concerned. The soil is well hydrated by the SWICKS. The biota are capable of shuttling it around.

I have no scientific basis about the biota doing any such thing as I imagine it. It's more an instinctive thing melded to what little I do know and understand about soil communities. I do know the even hydration offered by the SWICK works in their favor. Everything moves with water. You don't think that battery in the soil Doc speaks of benefits from even hydration? Think on that for a moment, and then ask yourself why you aren't setting up your own SWICK.

Keep watering, lovingly talking to the sweet Devil, until it's all applied. There. Doesn't that feel more responsible? :laughtwo:

image23063.jpg

Remember this fella?

image23067.jpg

Right after I gave the pot the 1/4 turn (notice how she's listing less today?) that little critter flew up and ran right SMACK! into the yellow wall of death.

image23062.jpg

One less egg-layer to contend with.

All done now. Just another quick glance before I close the curtain.

image23064.jpg

One more whispered proclamation of love and joyful projection of bushier days ahead.

image23065.jpg

The light is back on, the curtain drawn.

image23066.jpg

On with the day. I'm going to fill mine with joy. Try to match me. Do your best. Think about swinging by the Spot later and sharing your most joyful moment from the day. I need to swing by and share my one from yesterday. The memory keeps returning and making me smile again. :laughtwo::green_heart:

:Namaste:

Wow! That's crazy. Any possibilities this could backfire somewhere along the line? Well, I suppose you could say that about anything. At one point we had a plastic made from hemp that was strong, durable and biodegradable. Because someone had a "better idea" about making plastics from oil we now have a sheet of microscopic but deadly plastic particulates right below the surface of a growing portion of our oceans. So I hope they thought this one through. I need to read about this. Fascinating. Thanks aki.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

To be more easier to understand she grows male balls and there full of female pollen.

With two female parents all seeds will be female.

Cs is great for female female crosses.

I've been considering doing a CS reversal to start collecting fem seeds. I was recently told not to do this, as it is mutating or changing the dna, and you are at a much higher risk of mutations and fucking up the strain.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sue- Those mostly look like gnats (hard to tell in the pic), but have you taken a good look with magnification? Some look like they could be root aphids. I think I have aphids on the brain since I've been fighting them throughout my grow. So far nothing kills them - and I mean nothing. I'm waiting until my harvest is complete and then going nuclear on my grow room - then let it sit all summer to detox.
