Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

What I'm tossing around in my head is the possibility that those Cal/Mag challenges could be deflected with some comfrey teas. I found this chart today that leads me to believe there might be something to my theory.

From a study by F B Bareeba, W O Odwongo and J S Mugerwa on the potential of Russian comfrey (Symphytum officinale) as an animal feedstuff in Uganda. Here's the link in case anyone wants to look further into it.

It's hard not to be impressed with such a powerhouse plant, eh?

Yep. You're thinking right along the same lines as me. However, the Tea product in my kit is quite acidic....a really strong drench with it dislodges all kind of Ca on the exchange sites. I have no calcium issues, but many of us struggle with the magnesium, especially with hydro strains.

RE Dale: praying for you and Dale Sue. Count on it.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts Doc. I was thinking while reading the article on Cal/Mag that the Tea must be highly acidic I got excited when I read that.

Thanks for the prayers too. He's being a mystery case. No freaking idea what's causing the nausea.

I feel like a newbie when it comes to the LED lights. I understand that the Calcium/Magnesium suppliments are a must when growing with LED? I have always grown under HID (old-school) and have used Epsom salts as a suppliment. Are the Cal/Mag nutes that crucial to LED grows? Does it mess with recommended nute schedules? I have os much to learn.

I have no earthly idea GhettoGro! :laughtwo:

First off I have no idea how one uses bottled nutrients. Many others here, however, do and many of them use LEDs. Someone can answer your questions. I know. So much to learn.

Apparently there is a disruption of Cal/Mag balance when using LEDs. Everyone is still trying to figure this one out. It appears to have something to do with the stream of concentrated light effecting the plants workings or some miscommunication going on. What I don't know, because I haven't had time to study it closely enough yet,mis whether this has any effect on LOS. I think my best bet is to get over to the site where BlueJay maintains his LOS no-till thread and see if anyone there has seen a difference. That actually hadn't occurred to me until right now.

See how distracting all this life-and-death crap can be? I wanted to focus on gardening. Geez. :laughtwo::green_heart:

OK Doc. A couple tablespoons on the surface, under the mulch. Sound good?

Sue, I believe the oyster shell and crustacean meal also provide calcium carbonate. Even so, I added a bit of ag limestone to my mix. I have it, may as well use it for something lol.

What I have is mixed into the nutrient kit and I didn't want to use that for this application. At some point it makes sense to acquire the individual components and mix my own too. BAS made it easy as pie to get started.

This is kind of my own little experiment. Let's see if it helps to eliminate the fungus gnats. I can't seem to stay consistent on the mosquito dunks. The SWICK has spoiled me and trained me to not think of top watering and I keep getting distracted by life.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Quick update: Dale has been admitted to the hospital. I rest easy tonight knowing he'll be receiving the best medical care available in our fair city. It helps to calm the rising panic. No idea from tests done to this point as to the cause of this and I have a nasty feeling in my gut that I can't shake. Worry won't accomplish anything.

I was leaving the hospital in a funk earlier and remembered those cooked buds, so I consumed a sizable one at the bus stop. Buddha made an excellent mental health med. First time in..... I can't even remember when, that I didn't have to fight the tears coming down the hill to the bridge that crosses the river into our neighborhood. Instead I came home and baked another batch of brownies for the daughter's meds. For the first time in her life she has experienced being free of the pressure of her anxiety. Stop and consider that for a moment. She is 32 years old and has just realized what "normal" feels like. It scares her. She's working through that fear and I'm not allowing her to stop medicating. This is a major breakthrough for her.

She says it's akin to what her father has expressed about cannabis and pain - it's not that she doesn't have anxiety but that she doesn't care about the anxiety. This is on a very mild dose and it caught her by surprise. We're still working out dosages, constantly battling her concerns of leaving us short because dad needs them more. (Time to expand production.) I plan to find a dose and a delivery system tailored to her. She has no desire to be high but every desire to continue to feel more in control.

What an amazing plant. It should be completely legal. How do we help them understand the necessity of legalization? The needless suffering that could be eliminated by simply allowing us to cultivate our own plants. What a frustration!

Sue, you need to find some centipedes, some of the little ones and get them in your pots. I bet if you could put some gnat infested soil outside, it would be a trap for them. Somehow I have some in my worm bin and no till containers and the gnats are there, but not too bad. Anymore. For a while it was all out gnat farming, lol. They were everywhere. I think eventually nature will balance it out. An abundance of prey brings predators. And the hypoaspis mites, I have lots of those too. I suppose if all my gnats were gone the good predator bugs would move on as well. I think I have a nice balance these days.

This is good to read CO. BlueJay mentioned more than once that in the early stages he was farming gnats too (that one made me laugh!), but it eventually balanced itself out. It appears to be a natural settling out and I see it repeated as I work my way through the many pages of that journal.

You're running what? A year ahead of me in this soil?

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Keep in mind that if the environment gets out of check they will be back in force. Yes nature can balance itself out but it can fuck you. A living soil has an abundance of material for gnats to develop and feed upon. Environments must be in check.

(not referring to rain dance big bed hippy dippy out side growing)

Hippy dippy kinda kidding unless you Los people bring a drum circle.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Well, I'm on my second run in it but I've had it for a while, hell I don't know, I think I finished this current soil last fall. I've been growing veggies, seedlings and big flowering plants in it. Great all around. Actually, I used all my soil recently on a hugelkultur bed. I'm gonna make a new batch of soil soon. Can't wait.

Making new soil sounds like about the coolest thing in the world I could do right now. Have to settle for watering the garden tonight, another favorite activity of mine.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

The nice thing I've noticed about the no-till LOS grows I've followed on line is that with regular amendments through top dressing, teas and drenches the soil naturally hits a balance point. LOS can easily be maintained in that balance for years, growing stronger with each successive grow. Not making this up guys. Add foliar sprays and you just raise the bar. Environmental control goes without question, but this plant is more forgiving than others. Instinct surely plays a part. Any good gardener pays close attention to the plants. LOS makes it easy.

I like that in a soil. Kinda makes me passionate.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

The thing with bugs fucking you, I see root aphids and spider mites getting crops bad. Those are always likely brought in by taking clones from others. Popping seeds, cloning your own plants, growing in living organic soil that you made up, you may get gnats. Oh well. I also had a spell of aphids on my living mulch once. They ate up my arugula that I had growing with the cannabis at the time, but completely left the cannabis alone. Coincidentally. :) I've never had the pleasure of spider mites. Wouldn't mind keeping it that way. Although I will take a clone once in a while, sure.

Not taking clones could very well save you lots of pest problems, no matter how you chose to grow.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I truly feel some Strains are more forgiving on a nutrient schedule. I love the Los method and intend to make my whole veggie garden that way over time.

I've ran in circles with this discussion with 36 in person and in my approaching 2 decades of growing pot each strain has certain demands that need adjusted on the fly. And at times not all the best approach is synthetic period.

The only thing I find interesting in the argument is well the only reason Los hasnt caught on is everyone has to be clandestine do to prohibition of the plant. And therefore they don't have time to build a true Los setup. I find major holes in that. I know an organic tree farmer yes Christmas trees lol that grows extremely organic in all aspects from beef to veggies. Been doing it in am underground multi trailer setup buried and hidden since I was in Jr high shearing trees. And guess what he says the best biggest product he grows is with his special Budswell Medi one mix with some canna boost. So to each there own.

Your sub freezing temps are why there's Lil mites there. No winter breeding going on.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Never had root aphids or thrips indoors. Only gnats I've gotten is from royal golds crap tupar and basement mix, sunshine and now this fucking pro mix.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Also not saying it's bad but Los in definition is inviting living other biological organisms of all kinds into the grow. I feel indoor the true measure of success is how well you can make a perfect environment not match mother nature's but improve upon. And a sterile environment gives one more control.
