That makes me laugh Ziggy, because I've been in nursery our two asking or buying one thing or another and had that look, laugh, or question following one of my requests... doh,,what else would you grow in azalea pots? Is what you should have said to him!!! Good stuff, I'm sure many of us can relate to that in some way!! Like when I was in the pet store last week asking for barely hay because I saw it online as a fish tank additive.. the look I got,, priceless ;)

I found some on line that are 4.5" across and 4" deep. Would they work? I can get 30 for $17.

how about 6"?
i just goo goo'd ;) 6" azalea pots...the bay has 50 for $11.99 get those if you can. they look very similar to mine.

The FDAs website you quote pretty much nails it for cfls. Generally when used as grow lights you would not want to filter out what little UV the cfls emit. Don't stare into the cfls for prolonged periods and you should be just fine. Use UV sunglasses if you are wary.

Plants do want some UV, chlorophyll A (and B to a lesser extent) will absorb frequencies down to around 350nm so most likely they do want UV. Also most plants have or produce some variant of anthocyanidin which have UV absorption peaks down to around 270nm. These pigments also peak around 550nm so the plants that turn a shade of violet/purple do use green light as well. This may be part of the plants UV protection scheme, but I bet it isn't just that simple and that there is something else happening there as well.

After watching this I've decided I need to make the butter the old fashioned way with boiling water. It gives a better infusion than with the crock pot. That will have to be scheduled. Tonight I'll decarboxylate some Buddha Buds to take along tomorrow. We can just munch on them. Or maybe make some canna milk. Or honey sliders. There was an interesting recipe on Cannafan's thread for a Joint Cookie. So many possibilities. :laughtwo:

Noona does 1 ounce of bud per 1/4 pound of butter. Now THAT'S some powerful butter! There's my goal for the future.

Tonight I'm too tired for much of anything. I think I'll stroll through the threads for a while before settling on the Virtual Couch and rest with some laughs before bed.

Based on this information I would say using some type of goggle that blocks the lights from above while you are looking at your plants is what you really need. If the direct source of light is coming through the top of glasses in the space between your eye brow and the glasses, or from the sides then you are still at risk. I have never seen welders glasses perhaps that is a feature already built in. I remember a neighbor, when I was a kid, using those face masks that flip up and down, maybe technology has caught up a bit...am I showing my age?

Our brow ridges are designed to reduce incoming light from above :)

HPS does emit minute amounts of UV so no real danger (higher power = more UV) but MH has a significant UV component so optimally use protection.

Skiing goggles are great for this! One of their main design criteria is filtering out UV reflected from snow (snow blindness is caused by UV reflected off the snow).
