Baseball cap is all I use in the room, but I don't look at the light. I've also used polarized UV-block sunglasses. They work well. My welding goggles would make it difficult/impossible to see what I'm doing and seems unecessary.

I clone with water/bubbler. No experience with aloe, but haven't found a need for it ... so far.

Making Canna-oil or butter is a thing you have to experiment with. I have so much bud in my bud cellar now that I just grab a full jar or as much I think I can squeeze into the crockpot where as after my first grow I was reluctant to use any bud at all. I think you will find a good balance for each batch as you get more bud from your successive grows into your stash. If the last batch was good for you then trust your earthly instinct and be filled with joy...eating brownies :)

I found some info on UVa UVb and UVc. I am not going worry about it, I use a baseball cap and try not to look into the light.

I have the brownie dose down for my loved ones now. It's 3 grams of bud per batch for a nice level, all-day buzz. The cannabis is definitely more effective as edibles, no denying that. The reason I'm making butter is to make caramels. So I need to figure out how I want it dosed, I guess. I think I'll check out Cannafan's old edibles thread and see how many pieces she was getting out of her batch. Sea salt buttery caramels. Mmmmmmmmmmmm......

I think you might be right Dutty on the ounce per pound of butter. That should make it easier to dose. I just have to convince myself to use that much at one time. Even if it's the only time we do this from this harvest it's worth the try. It's all those years of lack creeping up on me and making me hesitate. :laughtwo::green_heart:

And paddy... Um, Professor, I figured it out. Your mad batches of soil and tea. Good choice. :thumb:

Based on this information I would say using some type of goggle that blocks the lights from above while you are looking at your plants is what you really need. If the direct source of light is coming through the top of glasses in the space between your eye brow and the glasses, or from the sides then you are still at risk. I have never seen welders glasses perhaps that is a feature already built in. I remember a neighbor, when I was a kid, using those face masks that flip up and down

The ones I bought are wrap around (~$11 on ebay) and I don't have any light leakage.

As a side benefit it changes the pink-purple colors to almost normal looking,
I just don't always think to grab them until I'm already in the room. LoL

I got rid of all my aloes, years ago, but I suppose I'll pick up one soon. Just got to treat them like a cactus, not a flower. LoL

I've had no problem with cloning in rockwool and just in a glass of water or water w/mild dose of liquid kelp added (1/4 or so strength)

So aloe should work ok.

But I had ordered a pair of welding glasses (shade #3) that work for filtering out ir and uv.

I get disoriented and eye aches within seconds without the glasses. Within minutes with the glasses.

The lights were never higher than my waist so I was always looking down.

I expect to pass the lights and shades along locally within a few months.

I'm going to make my first batch of canna butter tonight in the crock pot. I have only buds (:slide:) so I was wondering if anyone knew how much I should add for a pound of butter? I know with sugar leaves it's an ounce to a pound of butter. I'm assuming when you only use buds it's a bit less.

It would be half the amount of the leaf or sugar leaves, buds obviously have more trichomes than the leaves so much more potent. Try half an ounce and if that isn't strong enough go up from there! Hope it works out well for you :) :high-five:

After watching this I've decided I need to make the butter the old fashioned way with boiling water. It gives a better infusion than with the crock pot. That will have to be scheduled. Tonight I'll decarboxylate some Buddha Buds to take along tomorrow. We can just munch on them. Or maybe make some canna milk. Or honey sliders. There was an interesting recipe on Cannafan's thread for a Joint Cookie. So many possibilities. :laughtwo:

Noona does 1 ounce of bud per 1/4 pound of butter. Now THAT'S some powerful butter! There's my goal for the future.

Tonight I'm too tired for much of anything. I think I'll stroll through the threads for a while before settling on the Virtual Couch and rest with some laughs before bed.
