Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -
Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 7
One week old today! These early days, when it looks like nothing's going on, but we all know the roots are establishing their contact with the soil food web and getting ready for the explosive growth we all anticipate.
Here she is, all alone in the closet, with only the living mulch to keep her company. Hopefully, within the week I can get some new seeds going and add more companions.
We have to have a shot with this beautiful LED lighting, eh? Thank you for the tip newoldguy. That was very helpful.
My fungus gnats are too smart for the bottle of vinegar. Not a single suicide. Time to break out the big guns.
I keep a bottle of diatomaceous earth handy for puffing onto the mulch layer. This way as the gnats climb through the mulch they get torn up by the sharp edges of the microscopic fossilized exoskeletons that make up DE.
This bottle has a feed tube that runs to the bottom and acts beautifully to puff a fine mist of DE across the surface.
After I'm done puffing it on I wiggle it into the mulch with my fingers a bit to get a wider broadcast. Now I just leave it to do its work.
The added benefit of using DE is the input of silica it adds to the soil. I was going to invest in Agsil for my weekly coconut water/aloe vera juice drenches, but in researching this past week on The Logical Gardener I learned that for a small container garden like mine DE is an excellent choice, and I have a huge bag of it on hand.
Because I dusted with DE today I'll wait for tomorrow to do the coconut/aloe drench. That way we eliminate many gnats before we water the DE in. Maybe set the water portion up with a dunk in it overnight to hit the gnats with a double whammy. Sounds like a plan.
I topped off the reservoirs today - 1 1/2 cups each. I also turned off the small fan because evidentially this light moves enough air in this tiny closet to keep it at a nice 73 degrees at the moment. I'm ok with that for now. Humidity is still around 50-60% and holding steady. No need for anything else this morning. Just let her grow.
I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the HB addition, it's racing at top speed laying plans for this step. Orders go out on Wednesday for supplies. I need to start some seeds for the LOS pot though. I'm thinking at least one bag seed tiered in each pot so I can watch the differences with the same strain in different mediums. Thankfully I have another 7 gallon Geo Pot for the HB plantings. So excited! WooHoo!! Now, life needs to cooperate with the set up plans. After it's up and running both approaches are essentially water only.
I can't tell you how exciting it is to be able to demonstrate how easy it can be to grow high quality cannabis in what I believe are the two best approaches available. This is like being in gardening heaven.
I want to thank you all for the encouragement and reps. I can't keep up with all of them because I'm also tracking over 80 journals and threads, but I smile every time I notice them posted. Such a nice way to pat someone on the back. I feel so protected here. You have no idea.
You all have a wonderful day. Spread some joy while you're at it.
