The weekest link in all our led lights are the cooling fans....after that it's the connection at the socket on the light. Please keep in mind that all the current these lights draw has to go thru those two little metal prongs or blades on the back(inside the light)of the power socket. When they make them at the factory a real live person has to crimp the Stake-on connectors onto the ends of the power wires before pushing or stabbing them onto those blades or prongs. If that person had a bad day or wasn't carefull enough to make a nice tight firm joint on those , a hot spot develops real fast....after a bit of time ,and people continuously plugging and un-plugging these will loosen it further.....now. guess what ....boom.....your light just blew-up!Ive seen this many times over the years with a lot of different electrical equipment. The main cause for failure is LOOSE joints. When and if you ever have to replace this socket and or power cord remember to use a proper crimping pliers to crimp those Stake-on connectors on the ends of the wire real tight. After you've made this repair it should be a little hard to push them on the blades, that;s good. If they slip on too easy that's trouble waiting to happen. Now ,with these very big and powerfull units coming out these days ....you guessed it ,even more important. If you have to move your lights around for some reason be carefull not to wiggle or mess with that socket end too much.....very important. As soon as this connection point becomes loose and worn a bit you will for sure have problems.
With Vond's light ,he was glad he was home and witnessed it happening, so he could pull the plug real fast.Do not ,I repeat DO NOT attach these wires to the back of the socket with just tape or MCgiver it....use the proper connectors. Taping may work to repair a speaker connection but not a power cord that has to transfer a lot of current. With VonD 's case ,the dealer was nice enough to send him the replacement parts but guess what....they didn't send him the Stake-on connectors he would for sure need to facilitate the repair....without those proper connectors you can't repair it unless you have the ability and means to solder them!Hope everyone sees this as I feel it's very important."Gang"...don't mess with those connection points once your lights are up and running...leave them alone! hi sue i seen your post with gnats control , i posted there also . but i did do some research one time , this may sound bizarre but one of the best things i could find was flea collars for pets LOl :)
The mad Irish man strikes again PMSL :) :thumb:

Re: I need help with fungus gnats in organic soil
Parasites controlled by insecticide-impregnated pet collars
Depending on the active ingredients they contain, collars are efficient against fleas, ticks, mites and lice. Some collars protect pets also against mosquitoes, black flies, gnats ( = gnats, = Simuliids), midges (= Culicoides), sandflies and other flying parasites.

I hadn't even considered this paddy. I'll go looking on my way home. Thanks.

Congrats on your own light paddy. The inevitable upgrade, eh? :laughtwo:

Ok now some one needs to send sue a hortilux 600 watt hps bulb well make that two cause she should get a dual 600 watt lumatek ballast and depending on space small ac application.

I bet she would blow everyone away.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I so enjoy coming onto the journal to see what conversations were going on overnight. This is like a never-ending dinner party. :laughtwo: Thank you all for the well-wishes and congratulations. This is a huge step in the right direction. I am so touched by your communal faith in my gardening abilities. There was a time when I killed any plant I came close to. I know, hard to believe. It was only one point in my life, but it haunts me still.

On with the fun.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 6

Here she is, all tiny and cute, steadily getting ready to bolt for the light.

Baby shots always make me smile. All that potential looking so nondescript.

The first thing I did this morning was to remove all the hanging light cords (yes, I heard your sigh of relief Dutty :laughtwo: ) and hang the LED.

WE HAVE LIGHT!!!

image22198.jpg

I have it hanging 27" from the top of the seedling. Dorm Grow has a page on their site with pointers for using LED panels that suggest 20-30" from canopy, so I figured 27" was as good a place to start as any. That rack I had my CFLs suspended from worked out quite nice for this.

It runs quiet and cool. I won't add anything to the reservoirs today to better get a handle on how the light effects water consumption. This is a fabulous light! Thank you Doc and once again a hearty thank you to the kind gentlemen at Dorm Grow for refurbishing it. I am incredibly humbled at this moment.

When Doc tested this panel he ran it with a 90W red spectrum boosting unit beside it in flowering. My plan is to supplement with CFLs at that point. This will not only increase the total available lumens but will also offer a different form of light energy. This can only be a good thing for the garden.

Obviously I need a bigger space. Well, it's obvious to ME. :laughtwo:

Here's her first LED shot. Hard to make out with all the mulch clutter, but she's there. I promise to post many shots of my garden (which will soon have new additions - still working on expansion plans - WooHoo!!!) without LED lighting. I understand and share the desire to see the plants in natural light. How else could you fully assess their health?

image22199.jpg

Next major chore: do something about a decent door for this closet. This is interesting, but less than stealthy and has the potential for too much light leakage. Once I get a mix that includes photo flowering strains that will be a big concern.

I am so excited about the direction this grow is about to take. I am putting together my order for soil building supplies (yes Doc, it includes Promix and the tacky WiggleWorm EWC). Those orders go out next Wednesday as soon as money hits the bank. Big changes are afoot, but you'll all have to wait a bit longer for that. I'll leave you in suspense.

Time for me to get going. I have brownies to deliver. I've pretty much worked out a proper dosing to give him a happy baseline with the brownies and then I snuck in a pipe and stash for stealthy bathroom trips for occasional coverage. This might keep him from going out of his mind in the madness that is a nursing home. The Occupational Therapist sat him down yesterday to discuss how to get past the depression because the physical therapist he works with is the best she's seen in 20 years in the field. She told Dale this is the man she brought her father to when he needed PT. Dale heard her loud and clear. Maybe now we can begin to make the progress we need to make. Our lives will never be the same. It's time to embrace that and make life better than it was before.

I have more hope today following that conversation. I was waiting for his transition point and I believe we're much closer to that moment now than we were yesterday morning. Life is sweet.

Have a wonderful day everyone. Spread some joy on this lovely Saturday. :green_heart:

PS: Paddy, I can't wait to see your "new" grow space. Your LED panel is going to rock that room.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Whats your problem, a wiring defect?
You may want to be careful of the screename you use.

I live in what one would consider a ghetto neighborhood. I absolutely adore the people who share my world, but we have our share of mentally ill individuals. One particularly unique one is Steve, who goes off his meds frequently and takes to walking the streets, loudly carrying on conversations with invisible personas about religion and the state of our messed-up world. I always stop him to engage in a bit of lucid conversation because, 1. I adore Steve and 2. I think it's important to remind the mentally challenged that they are part of a larger, loving community that is watching out for them.

But we have a rule in our neighborhood: don't look the crazies in the eye. I break that rule myself all the time, but that's just my nature. On line we have a similar rule: don't feed the trolls. Report, ignore, and let the mods do what they do so well. There is nothing this sad little individual can say here that I will be offended by and it will vanish as you read it. Please don't worry about him. He is a non event in our joyful world. Sad for him because look at all we have to share. He obviously doesn't understand that no one seeks the honor of MOTM. That's why we consider it an honor to be nominated.

Have a wonderful day all.
