SweetSue's Perpetual 2.0 - The Transition To Doc Bud's HBB Kit

I slowly air-dry my trimmed-out buds for a couple days, then test them for moisture with a hygrometer in a sealed tupperware. When they get close to 60%, I jar them and let them cure in the refrigerator, with one or two Boveda paks in the jars to maintain the moisture. I think this slows down the cure a lot and helps preserve the cannabinoids.

Other than gently shaking them a bit the first day or two, I don't burp them, unless they stick together. I like them to tumble loosely in the jar.

I also cure the tiny buds and trim. Makes for better herbs, whether or not we decarb them before baking, or added directly to a chili or pasta dinner.

The ground leaves I store on the shelf, and, because the leaves were completely dry before grinding, I don't worry about mold. 1/4 cup ground leaves in a pot of chili can lay you out flat, depending, of course, on how much you eat. :cheesygrinsmiley:

It's not the cannabinoids I'm interested in with this drying technique, it's the terpenes, most particularly the monoterpenes, the most volitile of the batch. I'm certain that the overpowering smell in my fridge when I'm drying is them wandering around, but I believe more are preserved if they get into the chill immediately.

I was shaking mine, but I stopped doing that because I had visions of snapping the heads of trichomes against the glass walls of the jar. It doesn't matter if they stick together some. I leave them alone for at least 3-4 days before I reach into the jar to gently free them from their sticky neighbors. Very gently.

I hadn't considered curing the popcorn and leaves AKgramma. I typically toss them into the freezer and periodically make an oil from them for capsules. I like the idea of a broader cannabinoid profile with some chlorophyll tossed in for a treat. :cheesygrinsmiley:

You reminded me that it's been almost two years since I made chili. It's a little cool today. This feels like the day to make some ass-kicking canna chili. :slide: Let me get the updates done and get to the store. Be back in a few. It's 11 AM and I've been playing on this site since 8:30. I'm hungry. :laughtwo:

Weekly Update: Flowering Tent #1 - Friday, May 12, 2017

Good morning everyone   It's already afternoon.

Time to get the updates started. These fresh harvest oil capsules are kicking my butt. I keep getting lost. These aren't capsules to take before operating heavy machinery. Lol! Lets see if I can pull this off.

IMG_653211.JPG

I'm really pleased so far with how the Timber lights have kept temperatures at a manageable level. I finally figured out how to keep RH in balance too. :slide: Whew! I'm sooooo relieved. :laughtwo:

CBD Critical Cure 2.2 (Day 61, Flip + 22) It'll be interesting to see what yield she'll give me. She's tighter to the soil than I'd originally intended, but she has ample bud sites and they all look promising. She had a Brix foliar two days ago and a Transplant drench yesterday, 5 ml of Trans and .5 ml of Tea in one gallon of water, split between top and bottom.

These are her drench pictures from yesterday. Before

You gotta love a product that'll bring that dramatic a reaction from happy plants. Lol!

Just a teeny bit closer than 12". Yesterday I raised them another 6 clicks, for the second time in a week.

Carnival 3 (Day 70, Flip + 21) She had a Brix foliar as well two days back and then a more exciting day yesterday. I'd already given her the Trans drench, in the same measurements, 5 ml drench + .5 ml Tea in one gallon, split, when I consulted with Doc about her leaves and we decided to flush her and reapply the drench.

She got three gallons of pure distilled water, I rested her for 30 minutes and then added one half gallon of water with the drench amounts as noted. While she was dripping from the flush I gave her a DeStress foliar to calm her nerves. She looks no worse for wear today. She'll get another DeStress later today, before lights out.

Loads of potential growing inside.

IMG_654710.JPG

The hope is to encourage leaf development that lacks this roughness and clawing. Doc says he has a plant acting the same way in his garden. It's a toss up as to whether I want to preserve these genetics or begin searching for another with seeds, but I won't know that until I've sampled her. She'll grow and bloom and get to harvest regardless of the leaf appearance. Healthier leaves are the goal, but as we frequently point out to each other, we don't grow for the leaves so much, do we?

IMG_654811.JPG

Alright, that's one down. Keep going girl. :battingeyelashes:

I am soooooooo high it's unbelievable. Still haven't had a brownie in days now. Whew! This oil is sweeeeet! :laughtwo:

Weekly Update: Flowering Tent #2 - Friday, May 12, 2017

CBD Critical Cure 2.1 (Day 83, Flip + 40) She got Brixed with the crowd two days ago. Her last drench was a plain water, and she's due for another one today, judging from the droopy leaves around her skirt.

Curious that this tent, sitting right next to the other and using the same lights, is 5 degrees cooler. :hmmmm:

I pulled a bunch of fading fan leaves today. This was the smallest of them. According to my notes she's expected to go another 20 days, so I have no idea what that was all about, but she looks fine other than that. Right on schedule.

IMG_65589.JPG

Last weekend, watching the Cannabis Health Summit I learned that CBD strains don't typically produce lots of trichomes, and many of them will be simply stalks, with no helmet topping. That's not what I'm seeing in my garden with this strain. This is what grows in my tents. It's blurry, but you can still see that the majority of her trichomes are fully developed and filled to the max. :slide:

Weekly Update: Veg Shelf - Friday, May 12, 2017

IMG_659416.JPG

Carnival 4 (Day 45) She's quickly becoming a favorite. There's nothing to do with her other than pH to 5.5 with some CaliMagic added and water. I've been watering her about every three days. The last watering was yesterday.

IMG_659516.JPG

Look at the size of the leaves she's growing! She's gonna challenge me to keep her tidy and space efficient.

IMG_659614.JPG

Did a little supercropping on her tallest leader last night before be. She's starting to recover.

IMG_659715.JPG

The lower branches are catching up. What beauty she presents! She looks great under the T5s too.

IMG_659811.JPG

Ultra Dog (is this supposed to be Ultra Dawg?) (Day 7). I'll be transplanting this tiny beauty tomorrow. She gets watered when I do Carnival 4.

IMG_660011.JPG

My hempy girls, soon to be joined by another or two. I'm thinking of trying a couple 2 liter bottles off to the side somewhere. I need to get a Candy Cane started for the daughter and I'd like to see what difference the taller bottle would make. I'd also like to start something else, but I'm waiting on some new seeds to arrive. They should be here today or tomorrow, if I miss the mailman. :cheesygrinsmiley:

IMG_66068.JPG

CBD Critical Cure 2.1.1 (Day 40) She got a Growth Energy drench on Monday and a Brix foliar on Wednesday. She's starting to get some nice internal growth started.

I'm applying gentle LST when I think of it to encourage lower growth.

Dark Devil Auto 6 (right) and Dark Devil Auto 7 (left) They're both at Day 82. I'm fairly certain DDA6 will come down before next weekend, but she may surprise me and hang on. We got really excited over at the Dark Devil Auto community garden yesterday and Stavman and I decided to add in some supplemental side lighting to our grows. There are now 3 CFLs, 23 watts in 2700K, to help bolster internal blooming. That's an additional 69 watts of light pouring into the depths of DDA7. I'd sure like to pull close to four ounces from her, with that sativa influence she's expressing.

And that's the nickle tour. Thank you so much for stopping to share the joy. If I helped you create a greater joyful expression from within I encourage you to get yourself out there and share it at every opportunity. Now that I have all this posted I can jump in the shower and get this day rolling. Standing here typing I don't feel the full effects of the capsule. When I look up the room moves at a slightly slower speed than my awareness does. :laughtwo: Hydrotherapy is gonna feel great! Lol! Then I think I'll get out there and share my own unbounded joy with my flesh-and-blood community.

I'll be seeing you around the yards. Happy Friday everyone. :ciao:

Subbing up. Curious about the kit . Growing more conventional myself.

Hope you don't mind me following

Subbing up. Curious about the kit . Growing more conventional myself.

Hope you don't mind me following

You are more than welcome to join the fun around here DeVille. :hugs:  I've noticed you eyeing the kit. Feel free to ask any questions about it. For my money it's the most affordable and dependable way to produce top-quality cannabis that'll be the envy of everyone you share with who doesn't already grow with the kit. :cheesygrinsmiley: For somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 you can get everything you need, EWC and Promix HP included, to run six 7-gallon pots through three cycles. And the quality.......it's the consistent quality and the ease of the system that finally convinced me to make the switch.

When you finally convince yourself to try, you'll shake your head in wonder that you held off so long. Doc created something really special for us, and as you've probably noticed, customer support is exemplary.

I still play with hempy, because it's fun, darn it, :laughtwo: but this grow is based on Doc's methods. As you can see, the hempy influence keeps growing. Lol! I'm thinking I'll likely always have both mediums running from now on. The hempies can drop into those small corner spaces left by the big pots of soil. I've been consistently impressed with the quality and yield of the medium. It's taught me a lot about growing.

I like to explore my many cannabis options. :laughtwo:

OMG... I wish we lived down the street from each other. :laughtwo: The members laughed at Ziggy when he presented it to us. He's looking more genius than normal, isn't he? You're gonna be very impressed Morglie. I look forward to your report on the finished product.

I was initially concerned about moisture from the wash too, but that wasn't a problem in my case. Give it all the time it needs, and try to leave it alone. I think the keys are to get the humidity and temp close to that range of 39 degrees and 35% RH. My fridge varies slightly. I didn't find that to be a problem.

Be forewarned, it will be fragrant. :cheesygrinsmiley:

That would be cool. I know a couple of people that grow around me, but they are an hour+ away from me and don't use the kit. I would love to try some other high brix herb and compare notes.

I have a dorm fridge in my work room that I'm using. It runs 50f and 45 rh. Not quite in range but it seems to work well. I give them a couple shakes each day to tumble them around and a smell to make sure they are not going bad.

The fragrancy I'm good with. This strain I'm testing it on especially. According to the breeder disruption it was bread to be a low scent strain for stealth grows. Either I got an odd pheno or they never tried to grow it in the kit. It's the stinkiest, funkiest strain I've grown and at the top of my list of smoked even. The slow and low just seems to bring it out even more. The first jar is sitting at 15 days and the other is at 9. I tested out using the og drench, blood meal, and epsoms on the second one as well. It changed the flavor to where it's got some Skunk in the nose. The first one just stinks. A bit like a diesel strain that got left in a high school locker room. It's funny how we describe these scents in such an unappetizing way and then rave about how good it is....

I need to break out my last harvest of it to compare. That's the one I got to turn black for me. I'll let you know how it turns out after I get a good comparison.

Peace

Speaking of cannabis options......

Homer Simpson brought presents. :cheesygrinsmiley:

SweetSue's new options include

* Thin Mint Cookies :slide:
From Wikileaf:
The Thin Mint Cookies cannabis strain is a phenotype or lookalike of the famous Girl Scout Cookies strain. While not an exact hereditary replica of Girl Scouts, Thin Mint Cookies is similar in its observable characteristics. The strain became a hybrid when crossed with OG Kush and Durban Poison. An almost perfectly balanced hybrid, Thin Mint Cookies is 50 percent Sativa and 50 percent Indica.

The buds of Thin Mint Cookies smell like mint, hence the name, and taste sweet. Purple and dark green, this strain has a dense coat of crystals. As a hybrid and a copy of a legendary strain, Thin Mint marshals the forces of Indica and Sativa to give a powerfully blended potency. Thin Mint Cookie aficionados describe the sensation as both mental and physical. The body may feel sleepy and hungry, while the mind stays active and creative.

This strain is for the medically needy as it treats the pain, nausea, and appetite loss often found in serious disorders. THC content is high but CBD levels are low, making it unsuitable to calm seizure sufferers. Choose it for the sleepy effect and the waves of pain relief.

While it also alleviates insomnia, arthritis, and stress, casual and recreational users often choose this strain due to its name recognition. In 2013, Thin Mint Cookies' parent, Girl Scout Cookies, won 1st place for a Hybrid in the Cannabis Cup held in Denver, CO. The Thin Mint Cookie strain has placed in the top three in competitions in California and Washington.

To differentiate the strains, experts in the laboratory focus on the terpene and cannabinoid profiles because all cannabis buds produce THC. High terpene found in Thin Mint Cookies suggests its ancestry to Girl Scout Cookies, the caryophyllene, limonene, and linalool say Kush, while THCV indicates Durban Poison.

Because it is a child of famous strain, the hereditary lineage of Thin Mint Cookies is of interest. The original breeders of Girl Scout Cookies told High Times magazine that they crossed a mystery strain (F1) that they called their "secret sauce" with Durban Poison and OG Kush.

High Times' laboratory analysis of a Girl Scout Cookie lookalike found (in percent mass): 1.16% CBG; 22.3% THC; 0.07% THCV; 0.17% linalool; 0.39% myrcene; 0.37% limonene; 0.71% caryophyllene.

A phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies, the Thin Mint Cookie cannabis strain is a lookalike with similar properties. The strain provides potent medical relief due to its sleep-inducing properties, pain relief, and nausea relief. Recreational users may appreciate it for its cerebral and creative effects.

* Christmas Cookies
From THC Farmer:
Information
Brand: Exotic Genetix
Gender: Regular
Lineage: Cookies & Cream x Green Ribbon BX
Flowering Time :8-9 weeks
Height: Medium
Area: Indoor, Outdoor, Greenhouse

Seed Description
Cookies and Cream is a hybrid cross between Starfighter and an undisclosed Girl Scout Cookies phenotype. This sweet-tasting variety provides long-lasting relief for patients treating symptoms throughout the day, but high doses can induce an early night's sleep. Cookies and Cream took first place in the hybrid category of the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup.

Green Ribbon is a 50/50 hybrid that tends towards the sativa side when it comes to effects; patients report an energetic, heady feeling when using it. Originating in San Jose, California, this strain includes some Green Crack but the status of the other parent is unknown, withTrainwreck, Afghanica, and White Rhino all contenders. The light green buds have a subtle floral scent and are slightly fruity, lending to an earthy taste.

* Alien OG
From Matt Price over at Medical Jane:
Alien OG is an Indica-dominant Hybrid strain that is grown mostly in the Bay area, but available ubiquitously throughout California.
Genetically stemming from Tahoe OG and Alien Kush, this is one potent Hybrid strain to end the night in a deep-sleep and spacey trance.
"The Alien OG Strain is very popular among patients who seek a natural sleep-aid and appetite booster."

Being an ocean grown (OG) strain, you can already expect a heavy head-high coupled with a delayed body-buzz that will come in waves. From the moment I cracked open the container, I could tell I was in for another good medicating experience up in NorCal.

Alien OG definitely has that trademark OG smell (lemon pine freshness) and the buds are a very pleasant green, with heavy doses of trichomes. That being said, I enjoyed the medicating session and it was perfect for the late night numbing effect I love from most OG strains. Can't wait to get our hands on another batch to medicate with, take better pictures, and improve this review for you guys.

According to Leafly: First available as a clone in California's Bay Area and now in seed form from Cali Connection, Alien OG is a cross of Tahoe OG and Alien Kush. One of the most potent strains available today, this indica-dominant hybrid has tested as high as 28% THC. Alien OG has the typical lemon-pine "OG" smell and flavor, and an intense high that combines heavy indica body effects and a psychedelic cerebral buzz. Beginners and novices, be sure to take it slow with this heavy-hitter.

They all look like good candidates for me and my patient load. :cheesygrinsmiley: I hear Livetoskate is planning a community grow with Thin Mint Cookies, and now I'm in a position to join in that fun. :yahoo: I see some hempy pots in my immediate future. :battingeyelashes:

I'd say it's the kit. :laughtwo: It brings out the characteristics that may be simply nuance and subtlety in other soils. And like you point out, drying low and slow brings out even more flavor. I look forward to hearing your comparison. I've been so impressed that I'll be doing all the drying I can like this from now on.

I like the sound of the dorm fridge. I may invest in one for drying purposes alone. The appliances this hobby has brought into my home...... Lol!

8.5 hours on my morning capsule and I'm ready to go to dinner. I want to take another capsule but I'm still too high to do that safely. Wow! I'm more impressed with the potency of this fresh harvest oil every day. This is unbelievable that I could get this effect from around 5% THC value. :thedoubletake:

I smoked a small bowl of each this evening spaced out enough to get a good picture of both. The first batch was cut on 2/19/17 and the new on 4/30/17.

The flavor on the first one has diminished from what it was when I jarred it. Still good, but not as thick in the throat with flavor. The new one which is the og drench one, has a nice rich flavor. The Skunk nose that was there when it was fresh cut is gone. It's truthfully, not far off from my other current one w/o the og treatment. I'll have to test both of those like this tomorrow.

As for potency, the latest one has significantly more kick. I'm going to attribute that to it being a better grown plant however, until I see more proof. I'm cutting another purple Malawi in a couple of weeks and each cut has been grown fairly consistently, so I have a better baseline there.

I'm excited about all this new learnin' we're discovering Morglie. :slide: My next goal is to get you to try making that labor-intensive but kick-your-ass potent fresh harvest oil. You won't believe this. I've been flying all week on a strain with 5% THC and 10% CBD. Unf'nbelievable.

Happy Saturday Sue!!
Your girls are looking as beautiful as ever!
Interesting about the CBD plants not being as "frosty" I would say that hasn't been my experience either. I grew out a CBDKush and it was covered, wasn't a huge plant but that was my fault :( Not sure if you've looked into this strain its close to a 1:1 and gives me the best body tingles. I prefer my strong sativas but this is perfect right before bed. Makes the sheets feel freshly washed and fluffed every time I crawl in.

That sounds delightful RheinRover. :laughtwo: I've not looked at that strain yet. When I get the main strains figured out I'll be expanding the selection. Well.... I'm kinda doing that right now. Lol!

The March Of The Hempies

I don't what got me started but before you knew it I'd expanded the hempy garden again. I started off wanting to simply transplant Ultra Dawg and found a cup next to the scale that had a Candy Cane seed I'd dropped into water last night intending to plant in a Rapid Rooter that'd already pushed out a tail, so I planted her in the pot that I emptied when I transplanted UD.
