SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

"Chat with strangers?"

That set me to thinking. My daughter tells me she has in internal "script" for any possible social interaction, and when she's forced to speak to someone in public she sorts through the list, pulls out the appropriate script and proceeds to follow the plan. She has great detail in these scripts, and often time runs out on one and she's forced to scramble for another, until she's out of options and has to find a courteous way out of the conversation that's taking too much effort to maintain.

I wasn't aware of this practice until last month. For all the talking we do, this is one she never shared with me. It's one of the many ways she covered this over so effectively until she made her first suicide attempt.

It dangerous to keep it in, but it can be just as dangerous to spend too much time dwelling on what is instead of what will be. It's the "what will be" that we're most interested in attracting into your life. :hugs:

That is so interesting. I think a lot of times those with anxieties, phobias, depression or other mental illnesses aren't even aware of the coping mechanisms they use to function with them. And even when aware, don't realize it's not the way it's "supposed to be."

Did she mention if she relies on that less now? Or if it's still the way she gets through it?

I look at my partner who has NO fear of meeting people, interviewing, talking in public, giving speeches, doing plays, NONE, and doesn't get nervous in anticipation of those types of things. He doesn't seem to get nervous about anything at all. I want that. I want to live like that.

The more I'm opening up here and you are relating these stories to me, the more i realize I've always been a nervous person - I just didn't let it control me, and I suppressed it for many years, leading to genuinely good times. But it was always there some. Imagine looking forward to these things with excitement? THAT would be great. Wait, that will be great.

Youre already working on it Sara. I already see you past this, so I work from a point of absolute assurance. It sounds to me like your caregiver also understands that the universe always works on our behalf. I find it a bit bemusing that you found your way to me just when you needed to, and through such a circuitous route. I could have kept my lives separate and never mentioned all of this in the Callanetics Studio. That's not what the universe had in store for us, was it?

I'm glad you found us. You're really a delight to have around. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Thank you, Susan. I feel like I talk too much, but I'm loving having all of you around to help me and give me hope. I really do. I'm so incredibly grateful for you in both areas. Actually YOU led me to the Callanetics Studio in the first place, and you motivated me to keep going when I wasn't quite sure about it. And then you led me here. So, I'd say where you go, I follow.. Haha!

I'm so glad you didn't keep it separate. I'd meant to contact you since the very first time you mentioned it. But everything in its own time, I guess.

:cheesygrinsmiley:I thought it time to mention, I have been off all meds prescribed by my rheumatologist for treating RA, since just prior to July 1,2016 ! Does that mean I am pain free all the time? No, but I am not waking at night with aching pain in my hips and groin or shooting pain in my fingers and hands like I was before, even with methotrexate therapy. :hmmmm: I am not sure it is all, the cannabis that I smoke or eat, that has improved my condition. But at the least it has not hurt with controlling symptoms either! I think my somewhat increased activity level, less sodas, less salt, and less pharmaceuticals of any kind, has all played a role! :lot-o-toke: I have had so much THC in my system at times past, that I was probably overloaded and defeated any benefits from the herb! Once I began to be a bit more measured in my dosing and reduced my intake I began to get results, it seems! :tokin: For quick effects I smoke or vape but seem to get more real health improvement from the Butter that I prefer, taken in small doses once or perhaps twice daily. This even more than the very concentrated oils WE make or get from infirmaries. I sometimes skip a day or a few days taking any cannabis and feel OK . When I begin to get aches and pains I dose up again!. :peace: No science to relay, just observations! My problems with panic attacks and claustrophobia has improved as well, but anxiety still lingers at times! If I smoke or vape too much nowadays, this can be a bit of a problem and bring me closer to a panic attack than I care to be! For me , It is about balancing my past stoner mentality with a more measured approach to relaxing with cannabis and medicating for pain with it as well!:cheesygrinsmiley: I goof up plenty, but overall I am doing much better anyway!

Hey!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That's amazing news. A success if I ever heard one.

I'm sure it's just going to get better and better as you hone in on the plants, method of intake and lifestyle choices you're making.

:cheertwo: :bravo: :high-five:

She has stopped all pharmaceuticals, except once in a while when the pain is really bad she'll use a couple of the 220mg naproxin. Her original prescription was for Prednisone daily and methotrexate once a week. The side effects were bad and we started to look for alternatives, and we found cannabis.

So the prednisone and methotrexate sit on a shelf, unused. I also have about a dozen oxycodone that I kept back from my recent surgery (gall bladder) that we could use for really bad pain, but we are reluctant to use them unless the situation is really bad.-

The nausea she felt after taking the one dose of oil, passed in a few minutes. I'll get her to try something in her stomach first and see if that helps.

She is sleeping deeply right now and I'm hoping she'll stay asleep for several more hours. I'm reluctant to start celebrating yet, but we a somewhat hopeful that this oil will help.

I encapsulated a rice grain-sized dab in 8 capsules and she's gonna use them over the next few days, gradually increasing her dose. I'm not sure how high to go with this oil, but I know she cannot harmfully overdose, so a little experimentation is ok.

Once again, my thanks to you all for your support, your wisdom and your experience.

Please, please keep us updated. I'm so interested to see how it helps, and I'm so glad that this seems to ease her symptoms and help her sleep.

Using the hemp, I'd get slight nausea/unsettled stomach if I didn't have food first. It only lasted a few minutes, but food always helped. After that I just made sure to take the cannabis after food, in case it did the same thing.

Additional benefits???

Well, its a bit delicate to explain... let's see if you can guess?

I'm 69 years old and with that ageing has come a lessening of libido. I still want to, but my friend (points south) is not always "up" to the job.

Since using cannabis this past few months, I've noticed an improvement in that area.

My wife is not completely thrilled, but

That reminds me of a joke:

Grandma and grandpa wake up one morning.. Grandpa looks down, lifts the covers, then nudges his wife and says" Hey Maw, look at this!"

Grandma looks over, and says, "Humph, well, now that you've got wrinkles out of it, you may as well wash it".

Just a bit of senior humour.

Anyhow, additional benefits from cannabis..

:laughtwo:

:good job:

If this helps, my partner will be VERY pleased. Here's hoping.

It's good that you can still find the humour in the situation despite feeling like crap. Hope you feel better soon.

:hugs:

Well, I woke today feeling sleepy but fabulous. Ready to put to use some new art supplies my love gave me for Christmas. But I decided to rinse out my cannabis tools I'd been using - some of which had full strength oil in it. Ummm, how dumb am I that I didn't wear gloves?! I know how intensely it can hit through skin contact. How crap. It would be funny if I didn't feel so terrible. It will be funny tomorrow, maybe From fabulous to panic, weakness and yuck.

Hey Sue, ever think about changing your handle to The Pied Piper of 420 Magazine? You definitely seem to have that effect on people.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Congrats Tim on getting off all your RA meds and Danolo, good for your wife, too! But I have a question. I understand using cannabis for pain/inflammation relief but there are other RA meds that are called DMARDs (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs) that I was under the impression that without them, your body would start to deform and your joints would continue to erode. How do these fit into your RA medication list? Is there research about cannabis as a DMARD?

I'll keep my ear to the ground about this HashGirl. In future, there will be research on cannabis and everything.

Thanks, Sue. It would be so great if cannabis could cure/treat that aspect of RA.

Hey Tim, I relate to what you are saying about the "stoner" mentality. Its taking some discipline to take smaller measured amounts, rather than smoking our brains out to get wasted.

My step son has an interest approach to using cannabis. He uses what he calls "mini tokes". In a bong, he puts a very small amount of cannabis. Usually just enough to give him one good full toke. He also uses the same small amounts in his vaporiser. He claims he can stretch a gram out for several days, doing it this way. He is on a limited income, so his frugal "mini tokes" seem to work well for him. Of course my stoner mentality is to smoke or vaporise as much as possible at one time.

I'm slowly learning that less is more.Good luck Tim..[/QUOTE :rollit: Danolo, I still tend to smoke too much, at times! Hard to change old habits! Regarding the RA meds, I was having drug reactions to possibly the RA meds and other RX's, including dangerous life threatening behaviors, lethargy, fatigue, and depression! When I stopped all the Meds, I greatly improved in just a couple of weeks. :goodluck: I do have some concern about joint damage /deformation that could start up without using RA meds for that as a preventative. My hope is that the Cannabis is protecting me in that way, as well as with the pain! If I find out different I will cross that bridge! :cheesygrinsmiley: I think it is probably helping with that symptom already, as I have very little outwardly visible deformation of my fingers and hands, even with being diagnosed several years ago with RA and suffering a lot of pain not only in my hands but all over my body from my hips to my ankles and so on! Maybe it is like my brothers lung mass. Very slow progression of the disease and lessoned suffering from the use of MMJ! :thumb: It is probably wise to watch for signs of progression of the disease manifesting itself with more joint deformation and Getting at least annual checkups with the doctors. It may be necessary or advisable to treat with more than cannabis at some point in the progression of living with the disease! :peace: I don't know for sure anything I have assumed about my cannabis treatments, except I have not needed Pain meds or been sick, and feel better! :high-five: I will keep living this way, day by day, being happy and with the coping with aging fairly well, until Something changes. Then I will reassess my condition and treatment. Going to bed stoned a bit is nice after a day of work! After work , I took a large pill size portion of butter on toast with sausage and blueberry preserves for dinner, been sipping on a large juice drink and smoking a bit of Early Miss, while reading emails. I think sleep will come peaceably with dreamland tonight!:tokin:

:rollit:Hello HashGirl! Thanks for your input and caring! My hope and current belief is that the MMJ is impeding the disease, including joint deformation/deteriation and other immune conditions! :thumb: The current pain management is livable, actually improved over the RX therapy with Methotrexate and etc.! No visible deformation occurring rapidly. I feel pretty good and am able to work a part time job, again! All we can do is report our observations and hope! :cheesygrinsmiley: I will go get a doctors imput again in late spring most likely! I may not restart on the Meds the doctor orders! If I agree, that my mmj therapy lacks something I need, I will consider new meds/changes in my medication plan!:scratchinghead: If you run across anything on DMARD and MMJ I would love to hear about it!

Hi Tim.

I'm glad that MMJ seems to be the only med you need right now. I'm just coming off Rituxan and will be starting Xeljanz next week. I have been on lots of DMARDs from the beginning and have zero deformities. I don't know if I'm brave enough to just rely on MMJ yet but I'm hoping to get there at some point especially if we find something that shows that MMJ works just as well as a DMARD or even better than one.

I'll keep you posted.

:high-five:

.... My daughter tells me she has in internal "script" for any possible social interaction....,

i do that as well. Not all the time but I get it.

So I promised Sue a bit of a story. So I think I will put it here in the Hall.

It is about me, caregiver to my wife and first trip to a recreational dispensary.

On a recent trip to Denver. (Our holiday travel frequently takes us to Denver to see family.) We stopped into what can be called a canna superstore just south of Denver. It was My first time in a dispensary.

As my wife's caregiver, in the past I have sent her to the dispensary with advice on what to get. She usually forgets what I say and tells the bud tender she wants something 'good' , or good for pain, so she gets what everyone else gets. They are great with advice but they seem to always recommend a multi hybrid.
Last time she got Girl Scout cookies which were good and she liked so goodness. But I know she is not an average consumer.

So I was very happy to go with her this time. Pure Sativa time maybe? You betcha.
Also. .
I got to explain that she has high tolerance. But while on holiday we need to interact with family. The kids mostly. They are adult kids. In addition we also have an issue with the smell. The family member we stay with does not like the smell of cannas. It is his house and we don't mind going outside. No big deal to us. But something to consider being good house guests.

Right so on we go.
I wanted a 'golden goat' but they were out(a Colorado strain). With the bud tender running back all around, I then had my heart set on some Maui or any Hawaiian, Then I wanted Mrs. to have a strong Afghan. Maybe a maZar. One gram of each maybe one Hawaiian on Afghan?. When I remembered the oil pen. Ah Ha!
Which we had experienced back on the east coast from a medical user. Super giggly stuff. Don't know the strain.

So I am having a moment of clarity there and ask about the oil pens for pain relief. Do ya happen to have any? Low odor and easy peazzy. He gives us a strain called 'grape stomper' in a pen. (Jett brand vape pen??)

If you will give me one more minute then more about the grape.
We also got a gram of dry flower 'sour apple Maui.'
First.........
A bit about me. I dont partake, drink, smoke nuthing usually I need to remain clean for a number of reasons. Call it self induced sober living. I do have experience from about 20 years or so ago. Yeah I been sober for sometime. But I can and will from time to time.

Back to the story at hand. I was feeling real bad, sour belly for over a week maybe 2 so....
I tried a hit or 2 of the sour apple Maui. Gratestuff. Bang zoom. Super talkative and up beat with out any racy zoom. But it stinks all the way up, down and there and Back again. So we put that aside before the kids came home from work.

Oh yeah I was so excited about going to a dispensary we went before we got to their house.

So later that day we tried the vape pen.
Wowze to max. Yes yes. Grape soda. Missus tried it and wow grape soda to her toooo. It tastes like a "fizzy no name grape drink gone just a bit stale". And it just relaxes so good. No stone no zoom just everything cool baby.

Gimme that again. Sayz I. I took like five hits. And I just felt mellow. I can get a little irritated when high.

For the Mrs. the pain melted. Amazing. Mrs. has four bad disc in her back and hip pain(sciatica?)
4 or 5 hits you are not stoned just relaxed. I was shocked. Tried it again the next day. Same deal. Honestly I barely felt anything from the hooch but focused and mellow. Then again it is not for me. I just needed to relax my insides that day.
I am so happy for my Mrs. With real pain. Like having cake and eating it too.

Now then.
I have researched the strain mostly for fun. Gage green strain; with the likely genetics of
Purple Elephant x Chemdog Sour Diesel.
it is grape soda bubbly and yummy tasting. Maybe it is just the oil talking.
Any-who, it is an older hybrid. Sold out where I have looked. Not that I need new seeds. Still I looked. The grape stomper BX2 looks promising. Some of the other gage crosses look tasty too.

So I have researched a bit of grape tasting strains. Cause I worry about getting seed stuff/stash in the future and I would like diverse genetics on hand.
.
These four TGA crosses jumped out at me. I mention only because I happen to be looking at tga at the moment.

Grape Lime Ricky (Purple urkle x Jack the Ripper) I mean what is in a name ? but this one exactly fits my personality. Teehee.

Hurkle (Harlequin x Querkle)
This looks like a pain killer.

Deep Purple (Purple Urkle x Querkle) this one seem like a great fit.

Purgatory (Hells OG x Querkle)

The urkle or the querkle strike my fancy.
I need something strong for the head. And cool for the body.
My Mrs can handle the strong. Likes the strong.

So I can recommend the grape taste. Not talking grapefruit or citrus but sweet grape sweets. I like the citrus too. But the grape nuthing but yummy Yummy.

Any other grape tasting strain strain anyone has to recommend?

Grape ape. Gran dad purple. All that good stuff. ?

I feel better today. But I must have absorbed A LOT. I mean, I had been soaking all of the stuff in a bowl of water overnight, and my hands were submerged in that water while I was cleaning and rinsing. I wasn't able to stand or move around well until about 8 last night (9 hours after the "incident"), but the anxiety didn't last all that time, thank heavens. When my body started working again was when the old, familiar irritation and anger settled in. SO, the smaller amount brings that out (or when the body metabolizes a good portion).

It was funny to feel it coming on without realizing I was taking anything in - It started in my upper belly and felt like a super slow motion stomach drop, like you get from a roller coaster. Then that total body weakness that I connect with that feeling, too.

My partner says people LOVE that feeling. I never have!

What a day!

I was right, it's funny now :)

i do that as well. Not all the time but I get it.

Hurray for finding something that works!!! That's more of the experience I was hoping for - experimentation so I could grow what seems to work. But I don't think I'd have nearly as much fun trying it all out.

Hey Sue.

When I made my cannaoil capsules earlier this week, the recipe I used didn't use liquid sunflower lecithin as the person who posted the recipe said that he stopped using it when he heard it was hard on the heart. Do you know anything about that?

If you can get liquid sunflower lecithin, I'd go with that. Otherwise, sacrifice the caps and squeeze a few in there. Take a guess at the amount. I'm sure we overcompensate on our formula. Using the lecithin in the capsule oil encapsulates the cannabinoids, gaining great ground in bioavailability.

Hello Sue and Tim.

I ran across this article here on 420 that has some interesting info in it about using cannabis as a DMARD:

MARIJUANA AS MEDICINE

I was particularly impressed by the part that said:

A Phase I clinical trial conducted in Paris this summer found that a
synthetic derivative of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a major psychoactive
component of marijuana, relieved pain and reduced inflammation without
producing psychogenic effects.

In a new study released in August, the authors say their research shows one
of the cannabinoids, called cannabidiol, suppressed progression of disease
and joint damage in mice that had been injected with collagen to produce an
arthritis-like disease. The study, from the Kennedy Institute of
Rheumatology in London and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, also showed that
cannabidiol suppressed the release of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), which is
known to contribute to RA, in test tube studies of cells from these mice.

Even though they distilled cannabidiol from a powerful, concentrated form
of marijuana called hashish, it is not psychoactive and wouldn't make users
"high."

Study author Marc Feldmann, MD, PhD, of the Kennedy Institute of
Rheumatology and a major TNF researcher, was cautiously optimistic. "When
it works in mice, you're happy," he says, "but that's no guarantee it will
work in humans. However, this is a pure pharmaceutical compound that
doesn't have psychoactive effects, so it can be taken seriously as a drug."

I'll keep my ear to the ground about this HashGirl. In future, there will be research on cannabis and everything.

:rollit:Hello HashGirl! Thanks for your input and caring! keltic, sounds like you had fun shopping. Someday...... some sweet day, this will be the norm. Great story, and well worth the wait. :high-five: I caught the whiff of excitement when you walked through the door. :laughtwo:

The purple buds fascinate me. They all seem to have the most delicious flavors. I'm never sure if it's all taste, or influenced by the visual of the purple buds. Likely a combination.

One of my goals this decade is to visit Cajun's clinic in Colorado Springs. While I'm in the state I'll have to hit a couple dispensaries. I'm pretty sure Cajun would insist on it. Lol! My father lives outside of Denver. He's not an active part of my life, but he is a family member, another reason to get to Colorado.
